The initial weight loss is Water weight. Most people will experience a large amount of weight loss in the beginning (even pre op). But once you're a month post op and on to solid foods, it's going to slow down, but it's still coming off! Someone mentioned that this isn't bypass and they're right. Bandsters average 1-2 lbs per week whereas a bypass patient averages a pound a day (my doctor said so). Just be glad you're losing weight! I've read posts where people aren't losing at all. Keep up with that you're doing. It's working , trust me

85 lbs in 1 year??
Beachy_Babs replied to BaileyRose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am wondering the same thing! I am two months post op and have lost 30+ lbs. ( I know weight comes off quicker right after surgery), but I am loving how the pounds are coming off regardless. I have been so much happier of a person. Good luck to the both of us -
Emotional Stages of Lapband
Beachy_Babs replied to NJGirl32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't have said it better! That is exactly what I went through lol. I am on the same boat as you with the next stage. Weight loss has been gradual and good for me so far and I am so thankful. Hope yours has been too -
You need to.start buying your own food if your mom won't. And I agree with other comments that it is YOUR responsibility to make follow up appointments. The key to band success is having follow ups and attending support groups. How old were you when you had the surgery? I'm sorry to hear that you're depressed. Try looking into attending a few local support classes and do your best to get back on track.

Getting Stuck Sucks!
Beachy_Babs replied to Wheeler5051's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for sharing! And I am sorry you had a stuck episode. I have only had one fill two 1/2 weeks ago so food is still going down easily for me. I hope you feel better! -
It's very much similar to Chalene Johnson's Beach body TURBO JAM. It has alot of her moves (that's why I nailed every move during my first class) Loved the class. An hour's worth of constant movements and it's fun! I actually like it alot more than ZUMBA (sorry people). I don't like the latin-inspired music.. If you haven't tried it, I do recommend trying out BOTH classes to see if you're more of a ZUMBA person or a TURBO kickboxing person. Just wanted to share!

Grieving the death of popcorn...
Beachy_Babs replied to jennypenny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I loveee me some popcorn! I buy the smart pops which is lower in calories and fat. Don't worry honey! You'll be able to eat popcorn again in the future. You can pretty much eat all the foods you once loved, but just in much, much smaller portions and preferably a healthier version of it. I still don't do fried foods, but I do fall under the carbohydrate spell...I can't say no to carbs... -
Numerology anyone?!
Beachy_Babs replied to oldiebutgoodie2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happy Birthday! And Congrats on your 30 lbs lost I think it means something too. I know this sounds stage and out of topic with lapband, but for the past five years, every time I look at the clock at night, it's always 9:11. I haven't missed a day of it. So bizarre!!! -

That sounds like my family too! They will gossip and spread it like there is no tomorrow. That is why.....my husband is the only one who knows ! I have been eating right, working out and people relate my weight loss with just that. I would understand if I were to drop ten pounds in a week and people start questioning. But thanks to the band, the weight loss is gradual and very natural. Next time.. I wouldn't share anything with anyone if you know that's their nature. It will all be okay Good luck !

Elie is right . When people don't have issues or concerns, they don't typically visit this site often. I'm.sure there are a bunch of veterans out there don't worry about it . But it would be cool to hear from a few .

Suggestions for chewable vitamins (Calcium, Multi, and Vitamin D
Beachy_Babs replied to Diva01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I buy the Up&UP brand from Target for the chewable multivitamins. They actually taste really good! I take two gummies a day for complete daily recommendation. And then I take one B-12 complex from Trader Joe's as well as liquid calcium. You can find a big bottle of it at Costco. -
Recent surgical patient worried about slippage
Beachy_Babs replied to lapbandpatient's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor says that you will know if there's a slippage because you won't be able to keep anything down and there would be pain. You'll just know something isnt right. Furthermore, tomorrow is a new day like you said. Good luck -
Calorie Counting VS Smaller Portion Sizes
Beachy_Babs replied to lea3277's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Rachel.,,My nutritionist also told me to not focus on calories, but portion size instead. It is so hard because that's the first thing I look for is the calories! But portion control is very very important. -
Concerned about Calories Intake..........
Beachy_Babs replied to Debora Anne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yay for your weight loss success! I think you're not taking in enough calories. Initially after surgery, you're good with 600-700 calories a day because you're just consuming liquids and mushies. But it's hard to keep that calorie range once solid foods kick in. I use myfitnesspal app on my Android phone and it has helped me track what I eat. Protein is super important!! That's also fantastic that you are exercising. Looks like you're doing well with everything..keep it up !!! -
How soon can I start working out?
Beachy_Babs replied to lea3277's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was walking around the house, at the malls, park, etc right after surgery. I felt like crap the first three to four days post surgery, but after that, things took a turn for the better. At two weeks, I was exercising at the gym on the treadmill and ellipticals. I would say, after your two-week post op appointment with your doctor, you should be okay. After six weeks, you can do ANYTHING your heart desires. -
Do you prefer biking, or walking/hiking?
Beachy_Babs replied to gnortenjones's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I would have to vote for hiking!!! I hiked yesterday in Laguna (CA) and it was amazing. I love nature trails. I don't really enjoy the heat at all, but all in all... it's one of my favorite things to do. Biking hurts my bottom and I would only consider running if someone was chasing me with a gun (ha ha..) -
Just need to vent.....
Beachy_Babs replied to slm2007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Slm2007, it's a good thing that you were able to vent. I'm sorry that you are going through a tough time, but baby steps to changing around routines will make a difference trust me. Are you working out? Maybe..try to bump up work out routines . I'm averaging a 1-2 lbs per week depending on how healthy I eat. The band will work for you. It will take some time. Best wishes! -
removal of the lapband
Beachy_Babs replied to imdeelightful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all, let me just say what an amazing job you did to lose that 125 lbs. Way to go! That is so awesome As for getting your lapband removed, I honestly think it is your decision to make, BUT a second opinion from different doctors could help you decide. I personally have never even thought about removing my band because it took alot for me to even get it in the first place. As some people have stated in the above comments, weight gain is a possibility, but if you truly think you have full control of your eating habits and new lifestyle changes, then do what makes you happy In the end...negative comments or positive, you come first in your own happiness. Wish you the best of luck with whatever you choose! -
Take progression photos of yourself
Beachy_Babs replied to LVGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Omg, I do that too! I have been doing it since a week pre-op and man...I see a big difference. One thing I failed to do was wear the same clothes :/ -
Fill every two months?
Beachy_Babs replied to stleochic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctors office only does fills every two months too. I think they do that because they want to see how much you can lose within those two months with x- amount of fill. Good luck !
