Stupid Question. I got home from the hospital today, the procedure went well. I was told that with Lap Band our stomach pouch would be the size of a walnut. Is that before or after our first fill? I am not getting filled up, is that because I am still on liquids?
-
IM NOT HAVING A PROBLEM WITH HUNGER, I THINK THAT I SHOULD BE GETTING FULL FASTER.
-
Oh I am hungry. I was thinking that I should get filled up sooner. I was wondering if it is because I am on liquids and they are going through me or will I notice fullness more after I have my first fill.

I am pre-op My procedure is scheduled for Jan 4. I have been told all along that I would need an endoscopy as I have acid reflux. Now that we are in the pre-op stages, there is no record of me ever needing an endoscopy. I have brought it to the attention of the doctors office and they just seem to forget to find out if it needs to be scheduled. I have an attack once a month - according to what I read this is most common. Should I push to have the endoscopy prior to the procedure as I now am told by the office that I can have it done after the procedure? Have any of you had similar experiences? Thanks

I am pre-op for Lap-Band awaiting final approval from my insurance company. My concern is dealing with the holidays. Since I am telling as few people as possible that I am having the procedure, it would look very strange to sit at the Thanksgiving table on liquids only. When I mentioned scheduling to the doctor and that I may want to wait until after the 1st of Jan, he laughed and said there is plenty of time. However, that was July and I understand that he is scheduling procedures into October. How much time should I allow from the time of the procedure to the time when I am back on solid foods? I am guesstimating that it would be about five weeks. How did the holidays impact your eating? Thanks!

What is Dr Perry's nutrition class like? I went to her for my pysch eval and she was kinda wacko. Told me all I could lose would be 20% of my body weight - somewhere around 50 pounds and if I wanted to lose more to consider another option. -
Hello everyone, I am pre-op for LAP-BAND and this is my first post. I recently completed my psych eval and during the session, the Psychologist told me the most I can expect to lose is 20%. I said that cant possibly be correct. She said at 20%, the body shuts down and can't release anymore weight. I asked, do you mean I will plateau at 20%? Is that the average weight loss? She said no, the most your body can afford to lose is 20% of total body weight. In my case, she calculated I could only lose 54 pounds which would put me at 220 pounds, which I feel is hardly worth it. She said that LAP-BAND wouldnt be for me and that I should consider other bariatric options. She said for my height, 220 would be acceptable. I pointed out to her that at the LAP-BAND support group, the guest who shared stated she weighed over 400 pounds and had lost 150 which is nearly 38%. Can any of you shed light on this? Thanks!

I am pre-op awaiting final approval from my insurance provider. It was recommended that I consider lap-band as my cormorbidity is sleep apnea. Fortunately, I am not being treated for any other issues. I am having real problems being considered / labelled morbidly obese. Have others had problems coping with the word obese? Thanks in advance to all of you.

All I can think of is, the medical center is across the street from Disney, maybe she made a wrong turn.

Thank you all of you for your support! I did bring her misinformation to the center's attention and will also discuss it with the doctor. If she is giving that kind of wrong info out, it could be costing them clients as it could have deterred me. BTW this is through "a MAJOR MEDICAL CENTER in Burbank California" hmm hmm. In the PP presentation she showed me it stated, as many of you did, "expect to lose 50-60% of your excess weight". I pointed that out to her, and said that seems more realistic. Her response was oh yes that is another way of saying the same thing, sayiing 20% is far easier. By this time, I am drained and I sat there and looked at her and could only think, you cant argue with something so outrageous.
