How did you tell friends & family about having WLS?
Bryn replied to ginajeans's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Only people that know about my WLS are my bf, mother, sister and a close co-worker/friend. No one else knows, nor needs to know. About a two months ago I did mention at work that I was going on a hardcore diet (healthier foods, Protein shakes etc.) and have lost some weight, so they won't suspect so much. Not quite sure if I will let people know eventually; but if i do, it won't be for a while -
Starting to freak out about surgery on Tuesday
Bryn replied to poohmsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
awww My surgery is Tuesday as well and I am freaking out because I'm the opposite of you! I don't have concerns, but I'm scared because I'm thinking this way. It isn't quite the norm. But you gotta stay positive and have faith!! You will do great and successful and you can continue your life with your family as a healthier person. That's the light at the end of the tunnel and you just gotta keep believing. Try to find that spot deep down where the excitement lies. -
I to am a student and will be in class during my procedure but luckily it's online and it's the end stage. but...i will have papers due so hopefully i can manage. i believe i can so i'm not that worried. dunno if i could do it if i had to physically drive to school

Looking to make the 20 somethings forum active
Bryn replied to ATLGirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 25 and will be getting sleeved on 4/26 -
if this helps you out at all, i buy those carton sized packages of chicken broth (from target/target brand) and they are 4 cups in each and one last me 2 days. so i stocked up on chicken broth. nice to have a warm drink after continuously drinking cold protein drinks. i would just have one cup servings once or twice a day

I tried the fruit punch and I kept squirting and squirting it to adjust the flavor and the taste never "satisfied" me. Not a fan

I work in physical rehabilitation and my doctor said i can go back to work after 10 days but she said no lifting more than 10lbs...lol, gonna be hard doing that but I'll just have to trade some of my patients with others and not do any lifting for a few weeks. With that being said, I took off 3 weeks, but have more leave saved up if i need to take longer. I love love love love my job and my co-workers and I hope i'm not away from them for more than 3 weeks. much luck!

Did anyone try a last-ditch effort at weight loss with diet/exercise?
Bryn replied to Roudoudou's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I started this process back in august I said I am gonna do all i can to lose as much weight as I can; and if I lose a considerable amount of weight, I will back away from the surgery. I lost a total of 14lbs. I changed my diet Completely. I would lose, then gain every month; not knowing what I was doing wrong. So now my surgery is around the corner and I am ready for this major change more than ever -
So a little over a month ago my doctor scheduled m surgery and set a date of 4/26. She said about a week before the actual date she would send in my packet for approval. I have my pre-op tomorrow and instead of waiting another 24 hours, I decided to call my insurance company. During the whole month I didn't get excited but set myself up 50/50. I called this AM and she said it was authorized and approved as of last Friday!!!! I am so flipping excited now. I am on my 9th day of my pre-op diet and 11 lbs down of the minimum of 10 she wanted me to lose. Oh, and I can run a mile on the treadmill w/o stopping after 2'months of training. Just had to mention this! Everyone on here has been so great with their journeys and infant thank you enough. Can't wait to dive deeper into this journey :-)

What liquid do you add to protein mixes?
Bryn replied to jc1976's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I use skim milk. for any fruit flavored Protein, i use water/ice and make a sort of snow cone/slushie mix but sometimes i will use plain vanilla mix, Water and throw in a crystal light for a creamsicle flavored mix: orangesicle, strawberries and creme, any crystal light; tastes delish! and i use the whey isolate 28 from GNC as well. has really true flavor tastes and not too sweet/bland as others i've tried. -
I made it through day 5 on the pre op liquid diet
Bryn replied to happy2behere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yay to you!!! i just finished my 6th day. gotta keep our eyes on the prize -
wow, i can't get past you being on a liquid diet for 5 weeks?! bless you! but i agree, i'm on my liquid diet now. I don't know what to do with myself at home. i make up for it by going to the gym more often, and hanging out with friends more; bowling, movies, and shopping lol

Day 2 of pre-op liquid diet! Not a happy camper!!
Bryn replied to happy2behere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on my 4th day and I had head pains etc the first day. I wouldn't call it quite a breeze now, but it's definitely easier as I continue. Beef/Chicken broth is so heavenly. I have 1 cup for lunch, and it is so savory. I'm so sick and tired of cold drinks (i don't like hot tea nor drink coffee). I have ordered some Protein hot chocolate and latte mixes, but haven't tried them yet. the key for me is keeping busy. when i feel my tummy rumble, i just shake up a crystal light Water mix and drink. i'm already tired of powdered protein mix so today i put a scoop into my broth and there was no taste change, so i will continue with that. i also drink my clear Isopure RTD's...these and broth are what get me by. Oh, and I also sleep a lot more. I'm not sure if it's because i physically have to or because i'm going bed earlier to avoid hunger either way, i've come this far, and have paid so much into this surgery that i just keep seeing the light at the end of the tunnel good luck to you! -
that does sound yummy. but heck, i just enjoy my one cup of broth that i have for lunch

dealing with late night cravings while on pre-op liquid diet
Bryn replied to apple-saucy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ugh, I know exactly what you mean. The first night of me pre-op liquid diet, I went to be at 9pm!!! My normal/usual bedtime is 11-12pm. I'm finding the liquid diet to be harder as I continue, and I'm only on the third day of 14 days!!! But like cherrybell mentioned, the broth is my favorite time of the day. I never realized how much I would enjoy broth. good luck!! -
i like to use milk for my chocolate Protein. i just hate the foam/froth and sometimes i don't have the time to let them settle. i would like to have the consistency of a Wendy's frosty, but i haven't mastered that yet. As for my vanilla shakes, i would use fruit, yogurt or coffee with milk to flavor, along with syrups. but now that i'm on my all liquid diet pre-op, i use Water with a pack of crystal light for flavor. gives it a creamsicle like flavor. i may just start freezing them and making creamsicle pop lol. i never tried milk half and water half.

I plan on getting implanon after my WLS. no kiddies for me for at least 4 years!!! lol
-
that's the brand I can completely tolerate w/o a problem. I can even mix it with Water and it tastes delish! i have only tried the vanilla and chocolate.

I'm so sorry you've had to experience such a negative aspect of the band and WLS in general Thank you for posting your story and informing others. It's these type of stories that made me research all the options of WLS even more. While the band does work for some, it doesn't work for others (same with other WLS's). I do hope that you don't give up your weight loss journey; whether that be no WLS or WLS. Good luck and thanks so much

Did you all work out during your pre-op diet?
Bryn posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not talking about hard core working out, but the occasional treadmill, elliptical, free weights etc. I've been religiously going to the gym 6x/week for the past 3 weeks and I feel great. My energy is high, I sleep better etc. I did not ask my doctor this question last visit, mainly because I didn't think about it. I know I will be eating less calories than normal, but for the past month I've already restricted my calories to about 1200/day. I know with just 3 Protein shakes a day and the occasional broth/jello calories, I will be consuming less. I don't think it'll hurt me, I will limit myself but I would like to lose as much as I can in the 2 week pre-op diet and going to the gym will keep me busy for a good 2 hours out the day (includes driving time) and keeps my energy up so did anyone do it and feel "ok"? -
i have had my cpap since late january and i sleep better w/o it than with it. i've tried every type of mask, nasal pillow etc. nothing helps. takes me 15 minutes to fall asleep with it. I am not a back sleeper at all, more tummy and side, but the mask always ends up being repositioned as i sleep, so it's pointless. and at times i end up taking it off in my sleep. so i only sleep with it around 3 hours. the sleep doc said i should wear it about 20 mins before going to bed (while reading, watching tv, etc.) so i get use to it; been doing it about 2 weeks and it still doesn't help. ironically though via the machine card, i sleep perfectly normal with it. I'm no longer tired throughout the day thought but that's because i'm exercising. doc said as i lose more weight, there's a big possibility i won't need the machine, so i have a 6 month check up in sept. cpap is quite annoying to me though hopefully you don't find it as irritating as some, because overall it does help!!. good luck

if this is on facebook, you can delete her comment but good luck on your surgery -
I have tried all flavors, and really don't like them. I've even mixed them with crystal light and the whey flavor is just too strong.

EAS and Optimum Nutrition Protein Powders
Bryn replied to texbel's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
to me the myoplex is just 'ok'. the RTD's are too sweet for me, and don't have quite that chocolate flavor. I think this is because of the variance of ingredients in powder vs. RTDs (because RTD's can sit on a shelf) personally, Optimum Nutrition is good. It gives you variety (tons of flavors!!) and is reasonable priced. I also tend to just stick to GNC's brand of vanilla/chocolate whey isolate. if i'm on the run i can just mix my milk and powder together and drink it w/o adding syrups, fruit or other flavors. hope you find a good one! -
I don't use yogurt, but at times I add ice, and I mix all my shakes with skim milk not a fan of all the air and froth, so i just use a strainer to strain my drinks. the air bubbles will get caught in the strainer or will just go away/liquify. you can also try letting your shakes sit in the fridge to settle. but because i'm always on the run i use a strainer
