What position do you sleep in?
Bryn replied to kemo46's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 9 days out and for the first 2 nights post op i slept on my back or either in my big comfy chair. from day 2-4 post op, i started side sleeping and on my back solely. after that i was able to sleep on my tummy for about 45 mins at a time, then i'd rotate to the side and/or back i'm a complete tummy sleeper so i'm loving it now lol -

Bryn replied to Michelle Cicerello's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In all honesty, in the recovery room, I felt ok but the gas pains were definitely in my chest. made it difficult to breath in the diaphragm area. when i got to my room ,breathing was still tough but getting better. felt no nausea, gas pains reached into my neck and i was highly uncomfortable in the bed, sitting up even walking. but out of the three, walking was the best. i did feel nauseas the next morning from getting up and outta bed to pee so much. "threw up" just phlegm the first couple times. as i was dressing to get discharged that evening, i guess i had moved so much that when i sat down i immediately had to vomit. this too was phlegm mixed with i guess dry blood from tummy. didn't hurt ever, was quite a relief. threw up again when i came home to take the liquid meds, but from then on, i was fine. i now only feel nauseas when i take my Vitamins because they consistency is disgusting. hate chewables. -
19 DAYS POST OP AND GAINING WEIGHT
Bryn replied to babybig's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
are we as sleevers suppose to be eating 6-7 times a day? my surgeon/nutritionist said to stick with 3 solid meals a day. and one snack if you get hungry etc. could that be it maybe, i dunno. sorry about your weight gain. i worry about that as well -
the purpose is to prevent blood clotting. most don't need to go home with them, but some do (especially if you've had DVT before). If you do wear them afterwards, they're worn when you are inactive. they even have milder size TED hose that you can wear like socks. like if you have a desk job, or a more sedentary life to prevent clotting.

I Was Sleeved on Monday!
Bryn replied to lkcraig316's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
congratulations!! -
I ammloving the tracking of food. I did it prior to surgery and now I am tracking my intake while on full liquids. I feel that most have head hunger so actually seeing what one is eating throughout the day is beneficial. Sorry you are having a rough time. I wish you well on your journey

Can anyone recommend WLS Books to read?
Bryn posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 2 weeks left at home and I'm about drained of watching youtube vids on WLS journies/recipes. I know there are a few books out there about WLS and I miss my old days of spending hours in Barnes and Nobles so I was wondering if there are folks who could recommend some decent books to purchase so I can spend some free time reading Regular readings or recipe books are both ok. Thanks in Advace -

you're a lifesaver julia and empress!! thanks so much will be putting these on my list. so excited to go to the bookstore tomorrow -
I have aetna PPO and I just saw my pcp three months (mind you they were not consecutive ). But I saw her an extra month related to something else. I was approved first try and fairly fast. They Just wanted the basics, but my surgeon wanted more so it all worked out. And by the way, I didn't see a psych for my eval, I saw a social worker who evaluated me and it was sufficient. Only $100 and less than 30 minute meeting

Can I take all vitamins in liquid form?
Bryn posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i cannot tolerate chewable Vitamins. i vomit them up because of the gross taste, and i take my nausea pill; i think it's just the taste/consistency of the pills. My doctor told me I need to take Calcium citrate, Multivitamin, Vitamin D, and B12. The vit. D and B12 i have no problem with (pill form i swallow). would it be ok for me to just take the other vitamins in pill form or liquid form? i tried contacting my doctors office, but it's not an emergency and i have a post op appt. on monday so i will ask this question but i just wanted to know how you others take your vitamins. it's seems ok that i take pill form of other vitamins (but some are too big to swallow i feel); if not i can liquid it. thanks in advance -
I hate to say this, but you should want to do this for you an if not a single soul supports you, you will be able to do this. I say stick it out so you have no regrets. You have to be happy, you have to be healthy!! Your husband will come around after surgery when he sees how much work you truly have to put out. Do not let the voices of others change your mind. This is part why I chose to tell only 4 people prior to my surgery that I was having WLS. I Dont need the bad blood before surgery and I really don't need it after. Please whatever decision you make, make sure it is your decision on your own terms. Just think, if the people you told were not in your life, would you still go through with it? I am less than a week out and have no regrets. I have a long way to go, but 6 days after surgery I feel brand new. I wish you luck and success with whatever decision you make. Remember, this is your life

WTH is protein water????
Bryn replied to ranchersdaughter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have yet to see Protein Water, not even the kellogs. But like cherrybell said, I consider Isopure to be as such because it has the consistency of water Oh, and i love the grape Isopure lol -
are you taking an anti-nausea medication in the morning? i know that after i started taking my anti-nausea meds, i felt fine with drinking anyhow. not at the eating food stage yet much luck
-
started my Protein intake yesterday (4 days after surgery) and i managed to get in 62 grams of the 60 my dr. required for post op during full liquid stage. Isopure RTD's are a blessing to me because i literally forced the shake in my mouth for the AM serving. shakes just don't sit well with me it seems. i just sip 10oz of isopure per serving until i hit 60grams of protein throughout the day good luck

Can I take all vitamins in liquid form?
Bryn replied to Bryn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi and thanks for the response. I've been sleeved for 6 days now. I'm gonna try taking them again today to see how my tummy handles them til i see the doc tomorrow. thanks -
i was told to bring mine, but they didn't put it on me. surgeon wasn't thrilled about it, but i don't think the nurses were too aware of it's purpose at the time. they somehow thought that if my pulse ox was at a good level, i didn't need it. but ya, my surgeon wanted it. other things i brought that i used were: robe, chapstick, phone and charger. didn't need anything else. i bought my slippers with me, but the socks they supplied me with were more than enough.

Sleeved April 26, came home around 10:30 pm on the 27th. Surgery was suppose to be 11:30 am, but the first surgery ran over a bit so I didn't get in til 2. stayed in recovery til 8:30pm. Pain was excruciating. At that point i didn't know whether it was the gas pains, abdominal pains or a combo of both. Anyhow, I got to my room and slept on and off in increments of 30 minutes. Time was just not on my side. Next morning I had my barium swallow which wasn't as bad as I thought; I was so thirsty I could probably drink urine and be ok with it No leaks, so i started my Water. took me a few hours to drink a cup. by the time my broth/apple juice came I was having severe chest pains. Nurses/docs were concerned, ran an EKG, drew blood etc. by the time results came it moved all the way to my neck/shoulders....oooh the infamous gas pains. gas pains are a killer! not to mention the doctor said the pain/discomfort can also come from the irritated diaphragm (which i feel it more now). not to mention i was peeing maybe every hour at the hospital due to the IV's. by the time i got back to my chair i had to get back up again lol. was annoying but the extra walking helped. was so relieved to be going home. after getting dressed and moving much more, i threw up a bit, all the dried blood/co2 bubbling came up. the vomiting helped oddly, it happened again when i came home after the car ride (lots of bumps, i live 45 mins away from hospital). i was so pooped when i got home i fell asleep in my glasses and cpap . woke up 45 mins later to pee, sip and walk. i'm on a 3 day clear liquid diet and i can have 100% apple juice, now i LOVE apple juice. but the first sip was it tastes so different! a little bland but it was delicious still because i added some ice cubes. only allowed room temp. water at the hospital. Now I know I may be complaining a bit, but i've had many surgeries and injuries in my short life and this is by far the worst. I still can't believe that I have a sleeve either. It's all so surreal. I'm being extra careful as to how many times I sip. Still not use to sipping. I'm not hungry, mouth/throat still a bit irritated from tubing but overall ok. Only thing I wish i could do is to sleep more, but that's not happening. not to mention I'm having construction being done on my home while i recover (up until friday) so i won't get much rest. I can definitely see how this is going to be a major life change. didn't really realize it before the surgery, but now I see. It's quite different for me on the other side. But still excited. Thanks to everyone who posted before me and gave words of hope, faith and encouragement with their stories. I really couldn't have done it w/o this site. I hope that other pre-oppers learn a ton while here.

Pressed my luck and got hit with a whammy!
Bryn replied to sychadelic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
oh boy, my second day home and i took one bariatric advantage vitamin and threw it up about a minute later. i think it was the introduction to something in my stomach that wasn't a liquid. was gross. i fear this happening again when i start the mushy stage -
yep, went home the next day. my blood work was fine, no leaks, and no nausea so they said i could btw, i feel much better now that it's 3 days post op. TMI but I've finally had a few bowel movements and oh are they heavenly lol. passing gas out the other end helps with gas pains as well. now i'm having muscular pain from sleeping, i'm still not comfortable. I sleep on my back, left or right side, but only for about 2 hours at a time. I have some nausea when i take my Vitamins, just threw them back up. called the surgeons office and left a message. but now i can see that it does get better! I'm quite excited now. will be weird introducing new foods in the next few weeks. thanks everyone

haha, thanks for your post. maked me feel better. and indeed, we can do this

the tubing was put in while i was under. the things i remember before going under was being wheeled to the Operating room, scooting to the operating table and then having the mask on. i was then out like a light. when i came to, i could hear the anesthesiologist tell me to cough so he could take the tube out, but i didn't feel anything. when i had a prior surgery, i remember them leaving it in til i was fully "awake" according to them, and when they pulled it out, i still didn't feel anything. so i guess i'm blessed lol. but the anesthesia is still in your system, so you won't feel it either i'm sure. if that's the least of your worries, then i know you'll come out a-ok! good luck dear
