I tried Jay Robb samples a few weeks ago (got all single packet flavors at Vitamin Shoppe) and surprisingly they were delicious!!! i shook em up in my Blender Bottle with skim milk and that was all. usually with other flavors (espcially vanilla) i have to mix it with flavor (like flavored syrups, coffee, fruit, etc) but with Jay Robb i add nothing. I can only imagine that it will taste even better with additives this will be the brand i'm sticking to if you check out youtube, he has a few videos where he shows you how to make a few different shakes

i wouldn't be that nervous about it. i've gone under 2 times with tubes and the first, i don't remember the removal. the second, i do remember but i was still so greatly under the anesthesia that i didn't feel much. i just remember them telling me to cough, i tried or i think i did, and then i felt them pull something out but it wasn't painful nor did i feel pressure, hard to explain. i just woke up with a bit of a sore throat that lasted a bit til after recovery. one thing they did mention to me was that i had huge tonsils and they had some trouble getting the tube in i'm more deathly afraid of getting my tonsils out more than anything but they don't bother me

her pain may decrease but eventually the pain will increase if left untreated. ambulating without cartilage in a knee is painful and can eventually become impossible for some. can lead to osteoarthritis and could lead to a joint replacement. there other therapies out there but most find a joint replacement to be successful i've worked with patients who need joint replacements but surgeons will not perform on them unless they lose weight because walking is crucial to the obese person. w/o it their health declines. so overall, yes her pain will decrease after some weight loss

if folks have trouble sleeping with the machine, there are pillows to help create some comfort while sleeping with the machine, or there are poles to help hold the hose up in the air so it's not tangled around your face and there are braces, etc that will keep your jaw closed at night. don't hesitate to ask or search for these items. lots of people have sleep apnea and just don't realize it. even very fit people

If you dont like the gym, exercise at home. There are a ton of things you can do. Getting a work out DVD for home can burn lots of calories. Small things count as well: park far and walk a bit to the entrance, take the stairs all the time, don't take that short cut go the long way when walking. But to be honest, people really aren't paying attention to you at the gym as you think. Just go in, do what you gotta do and go Much luck!! You can do it!!!

why are you seeing a trainer if you know what you want to do? from my experience, most trainers (at the regular gyms) don't know a lot and treat everyone the same.

Question about this new option my sister as pointed me to
Bryn replied to Heide's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If I remember correctly I read somewhere that the sleeve procedure was a great option for WLS for those with Crohn's disease, and i think anemia versus gastric bypass and the band. but double check with a doctor!! -
How many appointments was your Psych Eval
Bryn replied to mskissty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had one. wasn't quite a psych evaluation. was done by a licensed social worker who just asked a bunch of questions and told me a bit about the surgery and what the insurance company is looking for in her evaluation -

Bryn replied to sleeveforme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Bryn replied to sleeveforme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

How to get Pre-Approved for Low BMI (35-40)
Bryn replied to Mateotete's topic in Insurance & Financing
go and get a sleep study done if you haven't had one. sleep apnea just isn't a problem associated with those whom are overweight. plenty of normal sized people have it so having that under your belt (if you have sleep apnea) will benefit you. -
High Blood Pressure
Bryn replied to Peffermintchili's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
high blood pressure parameters use to be 120/80, but it has gone up to 130/80 (systolic/diastolic) generally when someone has high bp, the doctor will prescribe a medication (commonly lisinopril) to help with lowering of bp. but if people diet properly, control stress, get treated for sleep apnea, exercise, etc. high bp can be lowered and controlled. i had high bp, was put on lisinopril but was able to decrease it myself naturally after about 3 months on the medication and then i was discharged from the medication. has been around 126-130/78-80 for the past 7 months or so. -
I make BBQ Pulled chicken When I am lazy, i just use a bottle of my favorite bbq sauce. if you want, you can make your own sauce 3-4 Boneless Chicken Breast Black Pepper BBQ sauce and any other spices you like just toss all into a crock pot, put on high for about 3-4 hours and then shred! it's nothing fancy, but tastes so good and the meat is completely moist. you can eat as a sandwhich, by itself, tacos, quesadillas or with nachos

Talking about bariatric surgery in class
Bryn replied to BlackBerryJuice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, all people are ignorant in some way. Just gotta ignore it -
i have aetna and i'm doing the 3 month program. my doctor requires a lot more than the insurance company is requiring, but i'm ok with that. - i have to see my PCP once a month for three months in a row for a weigh in (she also needs to send aetna a letter with all that good stuff), she also has to oversee my other appointments -my surgeon requires i write a personal statement letter saying why i feel i need the surgery -i need a psych evaluation and nutritional consult -doctor requires i go to at least one exercise program class -i need to get another sleep study test done (although i had one in 2008; gonna ask again if i can get out of that) -i also need to have an endoscopy, see the cardiologist and some other GI doctor and i need to this all within 3 months and try and lose some weight. my surgeon suggested i replace one meal a day, 3-4 times a week with a meal supplement drink, then work my way up to once a day so that i can get use to drinking shakes, and lose weight. it's a lot, but worth it imo

best to have artificial nails off, and no nail polish so that they can check your pulse ox if need be, and check for nail bed color

Hello all, My name is Bryn, I was previously on lapbandtalk.com; but after my consultation with the doctor today, I am choosing to go along with the vertical sleeve surgery. AI first went with the band, then bypass and now i'm decided on VS What made me choose the sleeve is that i really was not comfortable with my intestines being re-routed. and i didn't want to deal with the hassle of fills/unfills, erosion, etc with the band I see the bariatric surgeon in 2 months. within those two months, i need to complete my psych eval, meet with dietician, attend bariatric exercise classes, meet with my PCP, get a sleep study and any other tests i can squeeze in  it's going to be a challenge since i attend school full time and work full time, but i'm dedicated to do it. thanks all for sharing your stories/experiences for us newbies

I am sorry you had to experience this :-( My heart aches for you; especially since you are in essence, worse now than before. From reading this, it seems like your surgeon isn't really caring for you the way you need to be; not guiding you in the right direction. From what I know/heard of, I thought any WLS was suppose to be performed on those who are at least 100lbs overweight( I am unsure if it differs from the variety of surgeries). I truly wish that you get healthier and your quality of life improves. Stories like these make you think twice, but also think "I need to see for myself". No one deserves what you are experiencing. So much luck to you. My surgeon is making me see a load of other health care professionals including a gastro doc, cardiologist, exercise physiologists, etc so that I understand the magnitude of the surgery and it's complications. I am grateful for that Wish you well and thanks for sharing your story

I don't like any of the regular nectars. I tried roadside lemonade and crystal sky, even mixed with crystal light and its too Gross for me. Although the crystal sky by itself tastes, straight out the pack. Tried the strawberry smoothie and te latte one and they were good.

to tell or not to tell ????? yes or no
Bryn replied to sel1944's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i debated this ordeal as well. I told my mom, sister, boyfriend and a close co-worker. i was more torn about the co-worker but he is a life coach and highly recognized person among his community and in my opinion is very trust worthy. i told him about a month ago and he's been completely confidential. he doesn't necessarily agree with the surgery (he's extremely healthy) but he understands why i'm seeking it and he supports me. as for others, if i get the surgery, i know they will see me eating differently but i am prepared to tell them that as far as the weeks of Protein drinks, i'm detoxing. and as far as the small meals, etc... I'm just decreasing my portion control and eating healthier. It isn't anyone else's business as to why you are having the surgery, so if they somehow mention that you're eating like you've had WLS, you can always say that you are following the diet plan of such a person. -
same what peatie said. you may think you don't have sleep apnea, but you may. i thought my snoring was just snoring. until i woke up tired and remained tired throughout the day. this was such a concern for me (being tired) that i went to my PCP and she recommended a sleep study to detect for sleep apnea. sure enough i had it; was pretty severe if i remember correctly. this was back in 2008, unfortunately i have to get another so i can get fitted for a c-pap machine. my old insurance didn't cover it. but good luck to you. i would get a complete lab test from your PCP to detect if you have any co-morbidities as well (HTN, high cholesterol, borderline for diabetes, etc.) every little thing helps
