  3. I had my surgery on Oct. 24 and I had terrible nausea after I drink the dye. I had to wait nearly a whole 24 hours before I could keep anything down. Everything I drank tried to move past my gas and came right back up. I think i was like I don't wait to try that again. But of course, I did. I will admit that I had to drink only water for the first couple of days because everything else made me gag. I concentrated on doing two ounces an half-hour. I had the little medicine cups and I would fill 1 at a time and take about 3 min to drink that and then wait to see how my body handled that. After about two days I was able to add jello to the mix. So far I am doing ok and have just moved on to soft, mushy food - body says thank you - and it is still a little uncomfortable but it is important for us to remember to eat slowly. I am having a hard time with that. I'm eating Farina and that seems like it dissolves in you mouth. How do you eat that slowly? I try to take small amounts at a time and little breaks in between mouthfuls to see if I'm full. So far doing ok. Walking and moving around really helps move the gas. So when you feel like it try to take a walk a day. Its help me alot, I still have gas but its coming out and its not so uncomfortable. Good luck!

    Pain after surgery

I'm only 11 days out and I have have gas all the time. I can be watching TV with my mother and daughter and they will "Is that your stomach?" I have to admit that it was really painful to drink for the first 2 days but it has gotten easier - but it has not gone away. The Dr tells me that it will become less overtime and that I'm gassy because of the surgery. I'm thinking I may just be a gassy person. But walking help a lot - actually just moving around helped it move its way out - and also doing the breathing excerise on that thing they give us to blow in after the surgery helped my gas too. Hope you feel better soon.

    Does anyone regret getting sleeved?

I am only 4 days out and I can't say that I regret having the sleeve. What I found very interesting was the one thing I was dreading after the surgery (drinking the dye) was just as bad as I expected. I had little pain more soreness but the dye made me very sick and I throw up for a day and half. I have been home for two days now and I feel so much better. Now I have to be patient to add more things to my diet. I am currently drinking 4 ounces of water, broth, jello or sugar-free ice pops an hour (only the awake hours). I can't decide if I'm hungry or is it just the memory of food that I was eating two week agos. lol

    LOSING HOPE

So sorry to hear about your troubles. Please don't give up hope. The Lord has a plan for you that you can't see or figure out at this time, but there is a reason why you are not ready for WLS at this time. I know how hard it can get. I, too, thought I completed all of pre-surgery requirements only for my insurance to deny me. The insurance is actually requesting more information from two years back before I actually decided to consider WLS. With a little more research and patience I was able to determine that I would be able to supply the information, but now I can't get into the doctor to have him fill it out the information for me. (Job has us working mandatory OT until further notice as a result of Irene. ) But I am not going to give up because these road blocks are going to making us stronger and more determined to succeed once with have the WLS. I will pray for you that your approval is sooner rather then later. And keep up the good work because you are doing a great job at sticking to your goal and think how much this will help you once your WLS is completed.

Need help finding jeans that fit

I happened to love jeans and I'm always trying to dress everyone around me in the right jean for their shape. My very close girlfriend sounds like she has your shape - wider in the middle and small in the hips and leg area. She tends to like straight leg or skinny leg jeans (she wears a size 16 or 18). I always tease her about her pants bagging in the but area. She found some Old Navy straight jeans that fit her well - just a tad tight in the waist, but fitted every where else. Another jean that I think works for everyone's body shap is Levi's. They have an inexpense brand that is carried in Walmart, Kmart, and Target called Levi Strauss and go for about $20 a pair. They are stretch jeans and come in straight or boot cut jeans. They tend to run a little big. I typically wear an 20W in jeans but can wear an 18W in their boot cut. My only complaint with them and most jeans for me is their not long enough. The regular women sizes come in a long but not the plus sizes. Ashley Stewarts jeans are good fits too, as well as inexpensive. I, unfortunately, can't wear too many of the Old Navy jeans, I have a belly, a hugh butt and really big legs - their jeans are usually too big in the waist, fit in the butt area and too tight in the thighs. I would suggest you try on a couple of sizes and styles at store and go with the one that fits the best. Don't worry about the size, just go for the best fit and look. Good luck!
  10. I'm looking for a doctors in the New York, NY area with experience with the sleeve procedure. Any recommendations would be welcome. I attended a seminar at Columbia University Hospital but only one surgeon accepts my insurance and I can't find any info that states whether she has any experience with this procedure. Her name is Dr. Akuezunkpa Ude. My insurance has a lot of doctors on their website but it doesn't tell their experience. I would really prefer to go to a recommended dr. Thanks for any suggestions.

    Have 100+ lbs to loose?

I, too, need to lose 100+ lbs. According to the medical charts for recommended weight, I need to lose betweeen 122 to 152 lbs. I'm presently, pre-op so that sounds really hard. But if, I'm approved for this procedure, I plan to be successfully! All your encouraging stories has helped me to think more postively on achieving goals. I really can't wait to feel good again - I don't like the way my body reacts and feels these days.
  15. Hi, My name is Gigi. I am considering WLS and have been doing research on the lap band and VSG. I went to a seminar on 8/19 thinking I wanted a lap band and realized it was not really a good option for me. I have a lot of allergies and do not think the idea of putting a foreign object in my body a good one. As a result, I have been thinking about the VSG. I am 5?7?, around 282 lbs with a BMI around 45; I also have asthma, high-blood pressure and moderate to sever sleep apnea? so I am a good candidate. I still have some concerns especially as I have never had to have an operation. I?m scared! My insurance covers the procedure but I have to do a 6 month doctor supervised diet and exercise plan. I am mainly considering this procedure to improve my health before I add more complications to the mix. Looking better is just a plus. I have been reading the entries on here for while so most of my questions about complications and results have been answered. I am still interested in knowing if there are any major restrictions to exercising after the procedure. I have always been a big girl ? size 14 in high school, while all my friends were size 9 -10 ? and extremely active. I have taken dance lessons most of my life and even when I was in a dance troop where I was dancing 6 days a week, I was never smaller than a size 12/14. So what I am interested in knowing is ? after the procedure do you lose your muscle? When you lose all that weight, is your skin extremely lose that you require surgery to correct? Do you know if I will be called for my initial appointment before I start the dr supervised diet and exercise plan or is that something that typical takes place after you have your initial appointment? Has anyone had there VSG done at Columbia University Medical Center/New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York? That is where I would be getting my surgery if it proves viable for me. Thanks for any information! It is greatly appreciated.
