One week post op!
JOANNE M HOLL replied to flojones_1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The chicken noodle soup sounds good. I think that was my first too. Good luck at work! Walk as much as you can and warm beverage (tea, chocolate or coffee) goes good. Forget the sodas & alcohol. Praying for all in Band-Land! Merry Christmas & Happy Healthy New Year! -

You too are inspiring. Our tool will make us healthy, we have only to listen to it and search for our "Green Zone"! Merry Christmas & Healthy New Year to all on BariatricPal!

Do you have a lapband? Your Profile is not filled out. It is easier to reply to topics when one knows the data about the member. Have you visited your Bariatric Center & talked to them regarding your journey to control weight? Wishing you Happy Holidays & Good Health!

August 5th will be 6 years with my Lapband
JOANNE M HOLL replied to lisafitz's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are where we all aim to be. Bravo! I had mine placed in 2006 and did well until 2012 when cancer struck it's ugly head. After that surgery I hardly remembered my band. Now I am searching around BariatricPal.com to find my way back to the path that leads to my green zone again. Snow & cold here in Minnesota so my walking is not very nice. Today I walked & walked in my house. I looked rather silly but it did make me feel good. This band has saved my life, as my blood pressure is better and my diabetes is curbed. Love my Lapband. Merry Christmas And Happy Banded New Year! -
I'm hunting for "Start a New Topic" posting button. Where is it? I've got several topics I'm itching to share. I've filled out my own"Start Up" page, I think it was over a year ago, so I should know where to find things on this desktop program. One of my wishes would be for some emoticons (say it in comedic pictures, rather than hunt for "different" words). Mia I have a great granddaughter with your name. (Her real name is Amelia.) I wish you a healthy future. . . keep in touch!

This site has been a big help to many Banders. I have my morning coffee while checking the forums and gaining inspiration from others. I throw my thoughts out here too. . . . . . as my journey has been 7 years and I have my own experiences to share. You are " right on" when you mention taking small portions & chewing well. Last winter I journalised what I ate on SparkPeople.com and that seemed to be a big help in controlling portion size. Wish you Merry Christmas & a Happy Banding New Year! Joanne

Medicare payment on sleeve surgery
JOANNE M HOLL replied to pquinn181's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, I was over 65 years & spoke to them on the phone. They told me the hospitals I could get coverage in our state. Must be one that has a large bariatric section. Only 3 in Minnesota! This was in 2006 and I do have supplemental insurance so I did not have any expense. They covered all the pre-op tests & etc. Which was a good procedure as several things got updated and gave me a current healthy baseline! They have given me coverage on cancerous breast removal, broken wrist and surgery on a hammer toe since then. Plus several band fills with the dye scope of the upper GI. The band check-up is once a year now. . . . My lap-band has ingenuously saved my life. -
Welcome to the world of the Banded. May you find your future very healthy!

Coming Out of the Weight Loss Surgery Closet: What, Whether, Why, and How
JOANNE M HOLL replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I have found people forget very easily. I eat lunch at a local Senior Center. Folks are always pushing second helpings & Desserts at me. I always reply, "My tummy can't hold any more!" Most everyone heard I went to the Twin Cities to be Banded several years ago, but I don't want the conversation EVERY DAY. Also elsewhere my family knows it and my son keeps reminding me with every bite. I eat slower with much chewing, and they are done eating in 5 minutes! So they watch & comment. I finally told them to "Zip it Up, I'll take care of me!" I don't know why I do not feel like conversing about it, but it's my tool & they can get their own tool or read about it on these web sites. I don't want to prove it's GREAT every day, but I would not part with mine for a million bucks! -

It's snowing here in Minnesota. Crazy, it's snowing naturally and they're making snow at Andy's Ski Hills just east of my home!
-
Wish we had a little snow in Boston tonight. Skating in the Boston Common frog pond later Picturesque!

Same where I live Joanne! We have had snow like crazy for 3 weeks and Perfect North Slopes makes it as well. (About 5 miles from my home)

I don't think this is a silly question. It shows you are working on it! Try it, it could help, Everyone is different. A small plate at home helps me. It also helps me to put what I will eat on the plate before I sit down to a meal at home. When I eat out I ask for a take-out container when I order my food. Then I put 1/2 my food in it before I begin eating.

I'm A Brand New Band!
JOANNE M HOLL replied to bigmommybutt's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I like your saying that your band is your "best friend"! I'm going to remember that when I'm snowed in here this winter. I won't be alone and my " best friend" is here with me, so not to ignore my band and begin overeating for some short-lived pleasure. I've travelled down the banded road for over 7 years. I had a Vangaard 10cc placed on September 8, 2006 and have never been sorry. My "friend" has virtually saved my life! As chasingadream says, "there is more to life than food" but as you will all find in later years it does become one of the important pleasures of life. We just have to listen to "our friend" and keep the quantity down & the quality up! -
Welcome to our banded world. We wish you a smooth road to good health. Keep us posted on how it goes. . . . . .

My Surgeon examining/feeling me for cancer after seeing my mammogram felt mine with surprised expression on her face. Another puzzled question came from the people viewing the cat-scan at my local hospital. They don't schedule much bariatric surgery in my low population part of the state, so my placement was done in a specialty hospital 200 miles away. It took me several moments to realize they were encountering my band! I go for days not thinking of it. I kind of chuckled at myself!
