Had my first appointment
JOANNE M HOLL replied to runt's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't want to talk about mine to anyone but close family. Otherwise everyone is watching as you eat. Close family will be more educated on the yes & no's of what is happening. You will be so pleased with this tool, you will want to shout it out, but as time goes on you will be judged as you eat in public. This is just my 2 cents worth of advise to you. . . . .good luck & healthy happy days ahead! -
New New new!!! (& excited)
JOANNE M HOLL replied to aug13hereIcome's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The best of luck to you. To add my 2 cents to your story, I would suggest you not talk about this to anyone but family. Once all your friends know they will watch & judge. You will be the only one recording your nutrition, and if you want to substitute a taste of something (for other foods) it should be only your business. I take cake & mess around slowly and act too full, no one notices I did not clean my plate, then the plate goes to disposal & we don't have to talk about it! Go girl & healthy happy future to you.................. -
Barium Meal results & GERD - What does it mean?
JOANNE M HOLL replied to SunshineGurl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Are you walking? Eat only 1/2 meal & walk, walk & walk. Breath deep & relax. Emotions & tense body do something too. My Dr is clear across the State, and is a day of travel, so I try to do some things myself before running to the bariatric center. Good going. . .don't give up! -
Back again after a few years
JOANNE M HOLL replied to AudreeS's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have a question. What would cause a Band to leak? The seminars I attended before being banded it sounded like they had a "copyright" or whatever the word is, maybe "patented". (The samples they had they spoke of them being foolproof, safe & etc.) -
Worried about anesthetic
JOANNE M HOLL replied to angemc's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That is why they require all the tests prior to Lap Band Surgery. In our state there are only 3 hospitals that my insurance will qualify to cover Banding. ( Also why going to Mexico for "cheap" is dangerous.) Go with a happy thought and relax. You are heading for a healthy life  -

8 Years later- back to the basics
JOANNE M HOLL replied to BackInTheSaddle's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think this forum is where I will add my 2 cents into the conversation. I had had my band placed in 2006 and did very well until my mammogram showed breast cancer in 2012. Then I had the saline withdrawn from my band before my cancer operation. I am now "cancer free" and have been living with the band and trying to lose with no fill. The winter months went well but when spring arrived and all the outdoor activities boosted my appetite! I've gained too fast and would like to get back on my band wagon. It is soooo hard, now I'm going to have to ask for a refill, I guess. -
It took me a week to find it by trial & error. Look to the right side of the subject page where you can click an action. Also you will need to page down a long way on the scenic backgrounds to go on to the next choice. Whoever designed this program was not too savvy.

Gastric Band - advice for week 5 onwards
JOANNE M HOLL replied to Justel_'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks! Even to a 7 year old Bander this is very useful. -
That is the pits. Maybe type up something with lawyer & a Notary Public explaining what happened & send it to the insurance company. Good luck. . .do your best by eating 1/2 the quantity of food & walk, walk & walk in the interim and you will be starting down your road to good health. Good luck!

HI, I think you are making the right decision. I was told I could have it removed at any time if need be in the future. I lost 70 lbs and then stabilized for several years. Having a mammogram two years ago they found a large growth in my left breast. Before going in for breast removal we had the saline removed from my band. I did not want to part with my band.

Hi, I wish you the best of banding! Do some reading and follow your bariatric center's instructions. Watch some video and realize this is just a tool. Please don't stretch your little pocket as eventually it stays stretched! These blogs are a great help. I have my morning coffee every morning visiting on these sites. They are great in assisting with motivation. Have many a happy & healthy years ahead! -

N.A.S.H=Fatty Liver Disease
JOANNE M HOLL replied to sallie2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I did not have my liver tested. Is this something new they do? I started at 302 pounds and lost 69 pounds the lst year. Maybe it has to do with the results of all those other tests. Anyway there is always something new to learn. Wish you all much happiness in the years ahead! Keep smiling! -
surgery June 28th
JOANNE M HOLL replied to ladyann2323's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My Surgeon did not have me on a liquid diet. He just asked me to cut back & try to lose 20 pounds before my date which was in September. We started the pre-op health updates in June which found several things so I'm glad for all the tests & health updates. After the band placement I did not have any gas or pain. I think his method as a good one as I was already on my way to not eating that big quantity of food. And after my monthly appointments & slow fills I did throw up on occasion. Then I started really listening to what my body (& band)were telling me and things went well. I do not talk to friends about the band as I don't want to hear their opinions. I wish you all good sailing. Keep smiling! -
We're thinking of you. Your lap band story will be coming soon telling us that you now have a great tool & you are on your way to healthy living & happiness. Keep smiling, think positive & listen to your nutritionist & the folks at your bariatric center. Wish you a happy future! Joanne

If I can do it, so can you!
JOANNE M HOLL replied to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You light my light. Thank you for sharing! I was going good until they found cancer in my left breast. I had that removed last summer and am still healing. I had tests & new mammogram last month and was pronounced "cancer free". I feel great but the light eating mind-set is not happening. I plan to walk, walk & walk this summer, so I should find my stride soon & get back on the plan. -
