Welcome to the site, I also live in Austin, due to be banded Jan. 15th with Dr.Fass from SW, being done at St.David's. You're the first person I've seen on here that is also from Austin. This site has been very informative. I try to check it out daily.

Biggest protein bang for the buck
patsygrn replied to mariecarmen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I looked up protein requirements on the net, the average consumption for U.S.A. is 100gm/day Requirement are: 40gm/day for females 55-70 or 0.8 gm/kg body wt for males but a study (skov.et.al.1999) showed over weight women consuming 125gm/day lost more wt. than those eating 68gm of protein per day. This tells me that we need to find as much protein as possible with our tiny tummies to knock off the fat! I bought some protein powder, I'm going to start adding it to everything! lol -
I went to Lady's Work Out express and started my exercise routine today, been dieting since Dec. 26th and since I was at the doctors last Thurs. I have lost 4 pounds, I had them measure me today and weighted in, first time I've done that since Nov. '05 from then to now I had lost 17 pounds and 14.5 inches. I got so excited, hadn't realized I'd done as well as I have on my own this year. I hope the new habits that I have already created helps with this new tool I'm getting. I can't hardly wait. Just think we're going to loose all this weight and not worry about gaining it all back and more!!!! Went to GNC and bought chewable vitamins, chewable calcium, and protein powder, and one of the protein drinks. Is everyone as excited about this as I am?

Finally got my call back today and the date is Jan. 15th at 1:30. I'm excited. Hard to believe that we can be so excited over having surgery, but it's getting a tool, a tool that I intend to use. I've been on so many diets, and after all is said and done I've ended up gaining more than I lost each and every time. This time it'll be different, I'm going to keep it off. My pre op diet is low carb, no more than 30 carbs and at least 70 grams of protein for 2 weeks, clear liq. day before surgery and then nothing at midnight.

patsygrn replied to tazboobecky's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I'm not banded yet, everything is done but the exact date, probably the 15th of Jan. Kinda glad I found this thread, tells me what to expect! Then scares me to think I have this to face to, but know that it will be worth it. -

Sugarbear, I'm not 100% sure, but I think BCBS of Arkansas was the same insurance that my daughter use to have. She had the RNY done about 4 years ago and they paid well, even sent her a refund check where she had overpaid what she thought was her part of the bill. I just got my insurance approval Thurs. and really excited about it. Wish you lots of luck.

Lab band and travelling
patsygrn replied to melipooh9's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've just been approved by my insurance, no set date for surgery yet, but I'm so excited at the prospect of being able to fasten the seat belt on the plane without struggling with it... traveling will HAVE to be even better after weight lose!
