Hello high cholesterol!
-
I think I saw a thread on here that said your second or third week post op usually ends up being a "no lose" week. It happened to me too - despite taking in less than 500 calories a day. Scale started moving again yesterday.

My old coverage would have covered my surgery but when I went on Cobra it was not covered. Bummer.

If you are not hungry...
CheckYes replied to Twinkles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Twinkles , I'm in the same boat. Not hungry at all and my average daily calorie intake is less than 500 calories. My doc says two protein shakes plus three meals of 1/3 cup each at my stage. I'm supposed to increase to 1/2 cup tomorrow. I see people talking about limiting themselves to 1200 calories and I can't imagine getting that amount of calories in under my surgeons plan unless I eat totally unhealthily. So, because my doc didn't talk about a calorie level, I just do the shakes and three meals. I also don't get a feeling of hunger - it's more of a slight headache or tiredness. My tummy is completely silent on the food issue! Prior to surgery I am not sure I ever felt "full" either. I dont feel full now either but I'm not having to white knuckle it either. -

What can I do?
CheckYes replied to Pamalamadingdong's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seems like lots of people don't follow the recommendations. I get really frustrated by that so I try not to read those threads. I don't know why I are what other people do. -
What can I do?

Dave, I wasn't criticizing your recommendation in any way. This isnt the first thread which mentioned the chili so I finally looked up the nutritional info. I thought others might be thinking the same way I was about it. Also, I see people on here talking about eating chicken strips and fries so it's hard to weed out the good suggestions from the bad. -
I'm on my way to the hospital for surgery...

What can I do?

Im always shocked when post-ops are eating fast food chili...I think "Are you guys nuts?? Recommending anything from a fast food restaurant!?!". Until I looked up the nutritional info online just now. A small chili has 220 calories, 7g fat, 22g carbs and 18g of protein. It could be way worse and I was surprised that those numbers weren't much higher! It's not an option for me because I'm vegetarian but.. I get why it's an option for some! -
I'm still at 1/3 of a cup each meal. I feel so lucky that I have no hunger.

Are you tracking your calories? How many calories are you eating per day? -
What have you lost...

Ive lost a tire but still have a baby horse to go! -
The only people that know on my life are my mom and sister. I only told them because I had to - a ride home from the hospital and because there were too many things I would have had to lie about over the holidays. No one else will know - I hope. Read some of the other threads about telling people. Some people regret telling people, others don't.

Lower to the ground is definitely easier than higher. The less you have to stretch the better. Sleep where you are comfortable. It is hard to predict what will be comfortable after surgery. I was fine in my bed and sleep on my tummy again on day 3 post op. Easy peasy! -
To or Not To do Pre-Op Diet
CheckYes replied to ~Sabrina K~'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If your doc says no need to do it then I wouldn't do it. You go through enough with the post op diet. Why extend it? I had no pre op diet and I did fine. I think my general feeling on these issues is to always do what your doctor says. -

How long does it take to get a surgery date?
CheckYes replied to tryingtolose100's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to my first seminar on August 2nd. I had surgery on December 9. I think they called me to schedule it six weeks before the surgery. -
Go with whatever your doctor says.

Waiting, waiting, waiting
CheckYes replied to kelhough's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I'm vegetarian so I use soy protein. Spirutein is yum and has tons of flavors. I ordered a sample pack in advance and tried them out. I use a soy protein by Optimum Nutrition. It has no sugar and i like it mixed with water. It mixes very easily. -
Surgery on December 23rd
CheckYes replied to Linnielady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How did it go? -
I hear it can take a while for all the extra air to go. I seem to get hiccups more often.
-
Its fine. Getting the timing right has been a challenge. I can't drink 30 mins before of after so I'm using my iPhone timer to keep menin check. I eat 1/4 cup three times a day plus two protein shakes. I am avoiding sugar and just try to eat protein first. It's not much food but I'm not hungry either. I kind of have to force myself to eat. I feel great. My steri strips are still one but apart from that I don't even feel like I had surgery. It gets better every day. The first few days were rough so just hang in there!
-
Totally normal! It will get better every day. My tummy looked like a basketball for a few days after surgery.

ENERGY LEVELS DURING PRE-OP DIET AND AFTER SURGERY
CheckYes replied to maple1950's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a lot of energy now. No daily naps like the week after surgery. I have no hunger though so I'm not feeling like I'm not eating much.
