  1. I don't know if it is normal but I can tell you that I haven't hit 1000 calories in one day since my surgery three months ago. My surgeons orders at 13 days post op was 1/4 cup of mushy three times a day plus two protein shakes.
  2. I'd prefer fresh foods but that's just me.
  3. You are going through a lot right now. How about a sugar free pudding instead?

    BodyBugg?

I have one. This is my first week using it so I haven't really quite got the hang of it but I can tell you it is very comfortable and you wear it under your clothes. My family haven't even noticed I have had it on. I would never have thought it would be comfortable enough to sleep with but it is!

    UGHHH!!! Cheating!

It might just be a kind of second nature thing that you need to train your brain to avoid. Just try to be as aware as you can be of your pitfalls and try to avoid them. Maybe ask your daughter to put the pizza away herself so it doesn't stare you in the face!

    Kidney stones and lap-band?

Cranberry tablets are supposed to help a lot. They don't help get rid of existing stones but they help stop new ones from forming. I have a friend that takes it religiously and he has been stone free for two years!

    So miserable. Please help!

Hi, Increase your Water intake as much as possible. I know you probably don't feel like it but it made ALL the difference for me - even after just one day of a major increase. When I called my surgeon about this issue, her first recommendation was to increase my water intake. Then she said if that didn't work that I could take a stool softener but even if I did that then I had to increase my water intake anyway. Good luck.
  8. I also eat salads - romaine and baby spinach go down fine for me.
  9. I can't do the gummies because they have gelatin in them and I am vegetarian. I want to check out the vegan deva vitamins. Where do you get them?

    Kidney stones and lap-band?

Have you talked to your lapband surgeon? I hope this gets resolved right away.

    A Big Fat Debate

I agree completely. I am a firm believer that balance is the key. I personally don't want to end up saying "I can't have" this or that because it's a carb or whatnot. I'd like to be able to eat a variety but just restrict my portion sizes enough to maintain my weight when I reach goal. Jachut, best wishes on your treatment. You're a rock star in my book!

    Need protein help!

I get about 40g of protein a day. My nutritionist said that's fine for me because I am eating high quality protein (fish). Don't beat yourself up if you don't make your quota each day. Just do your best. I wouldn't stuff it in if you aren't hungry. I also wouldn't drink my protein personally but you should follow your doctors orders whatever they may be.

    Kidney stones and lap-band?

It took three shots of demerol to get rid of my pain. They will probably wait to see if you can pass them. They might do a CT scan - painless. They might do the procedure (called lithotripsy) where they blast them with sound waves to break them up. I hear that is painless too and non-invasive. Does your back ache? Do you have to urinate but nothing comes out? If you can urinate, it may not be kidney stones and if you have no back pain it is probably not kidney stones. It was the most unbearable pain I have ever been in. There is no way that Vicodin or any standard pain reliever would have dulled that pain. Having them in the first place is more pain than anything they will do to you in the ER to treat them. It will be ok. Keep us posted though,...

    Eating/Question

My doctor says no drinking a half hour before, during, or for a half hour after. I think it has something to do with washing food right through the band and I feel like I remember something about stretching the stoma. I fear you might not have received enough information from your surgeon about the band, meal plans and procedure. If you havent had a fill yet, you will probably be hungry until you do. If you are on the mushy stage - your food should be mushy before it goes in your mouth. Didn't your doctor give you a meal plan to follow?

STOMACH, IS IT THE SIZE OF AN EGG NOW?

It depends on how much you are eating and at what stage you are in. I think in an earlier post you said you were in the mushy stage. If so, at that stage, my doctor allowed me 1/4 cup of food at a time. If you eat too much, not only you could damage your band and damage the installation of the band by messing with the stitches used to hold it in place - if you overeat for a prolonged period of time you could damage your esophagus. Do NOT push your band at this stage (or ever really). You need to be gentle with your body right now. Get back on track. Follow your surgeons orders.

Please tell me it gets better...

I absolutely does get better. You had surgery combined with a lack of calories and nutrients. It works against you for a bit. I was probably still napping Day 10 after surgery. Now I feel good and have more energy than before. I would say I felt completely back to normal about two weeks after surgery.

    Eating/Question

Ok. It's bad but if you get back on track it will be ok. However if you continue to graze you will probably not lose weight the way you want. Being hungry will always make you think about food but once you are past purée you may find that the solid proteins will satisfy you more. Come on Ronna! You can do this. When you are hungry in between meals try drinking some Crystal Light. You can't eat for at least a half hour after that... I use that rule to help police myself very often.
  20. I split off what I am going to eat immediately. I just push the extra over to the other side or draw a "line" and once I finish my portion, I stop eating and take the rest home.

    Co2 gas pain

Holy Toledo! I've never heard of the gas causing such severe breathing trouble. That must have been terrifying.

    Day 3 after surgery.

Totally normal. I was scared too. I'm still scared to try rice, bread or pasta and I am 3 months post op!

    Kidney stones and lap-band?

I do! I had kidney stones after I did Atkins induction (the old induction guidelines) once for five weeks instead of properly. My urologist and general doctor said it was due to extreme modification of my diet. Kidney stones run in my family but I am the only one in my generation to have had them. Mine were tiny newly formed crystals so not nearly as bad as most people suffer from. I was in so much pain I couldn't speak! Is it possible that you have modified your diet so much that the kidney stones could be the result? And before the pro-Atkins posters respond... I will take my two doctors opinion as to my medical condition and cause as correct and, as I stated, I overdid induction.
  25. Ooops. Im not in starvation mode by any means.
