Less than 24 hours post... in pain.. Question
CheckYes replied to bzbrown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It honestly will be better every day. I know it is hard the first few days. Sip slowly all day and do the best you can. Some people start freaking out if they didn't get their full water intake each day but just do your best effort and you will be ok. The more you walk the better you will feel - honestly. Getting up and down is hard and you may be weak but hold on to the walls as you go. I was up and down the first two days and walking circles in my house and I had very minimal pain by Day 2. Bottom line - be gentle with yourself and your feelings. Keep in mind that it is totally normal to think "What the hell have I done to myself??". That will pass. I promise. Best wishes and keep us posted. -
Hi Jess, I would suggest you go to a running store near you. My mom is about that size and she was able to find several options at our local running store. Gotta keep those cha chas in place!

Chose Realize Band.....good choice? yeah, or nay?
CheckYes replied to slm2007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think it is silly at all to want a low profile port. I was adamant about that too. My surgeon uses a low profile port with Lapband as a general rule. She says there is no reason to not use a low profile port. She didn't give me the option of which band - she did tell me that she felt that Realize band was older technology but didn't say specifically why. I just know she no longer uses it in her practice. Also, there was recently a recall on some Realize bands - if I remember correctly it was due to the port tubing slipping out of place but I am sure they have corrected that for new ones coming into the market and it wasn't something that happened often. Your surgeon sounds like a good one. If he says he only uses a low profile port with Realize then I would do that. I think the low profile port is really important too. Best wishes to you! Keep us posted! -
Looking for support...

How about going to see your surgeon? That might be a good first step to help hold you accountable. You may need a slight unfill. Recommit yourself TO yourself and put one foot in front of the other. You can do it! -
For those of you who are 3, 6, 9, 12 months out
CheckYes replied to momnear40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im at 3 months out. I generally eat three times a day. I eat about 3/4 cup to 1 cup at a time. I will sometimes eat a serving of mixed nuts as a snack in the evening because I'm having a hard time keeping my calories about 700 a day. I haven't had a fill but am just not hungry anymore. I know I should be eating more and I try to but I crave cauliflower now and stuff like that. I eat fish once or twice a day. -

Lapband can be placed with a low profile port too. Mine is! -
BANDED 11/29/10, ONLY LOST 10 LBS....WTH...
CheckYes replied to fusionbell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't blame you for being frustrated! I agree with the other posters that you should food journal and see if you can get an accurate picture of how many calories you are taking in. Start there and see if there is anything that can be changed there. Also, have you ever considered using a bodybugg? I have one and am loving it. It tracks how many calories I burn and I journal everything so I can always make sure I have a calorie deficit. Best wishes to you.... I hope the scale starts moving for you soon. -
If you don't need or want a fill - don't get one. I've had three visits now where I could have had a fill but didn't need it. I'm down 51 pounds in 3.5 months and I am still doing well on my choices for food. Some people are able to get to goal without a fill - Reverie is a great example of that. I think Rueben and Lance are still going without fills too. I see so many people struggle with eating after their band is adjusted. I don't want to have to go through that and although I have to white-knuckle it every now and then, I don't have the interest in food I once had. If you are feeling the same - forgo the fill. I am sure your surgeon will listen to how you are feeling. Best wishes!

My surgeon warned me about this issue. The first few weeks are the worst. Brushing your teeth has nothing to do with this right now. Because I couldn't eat mints, I bought listerine strips that dissolve in the mouth. They were so helpful!

Overwhelmed with nutrition information!
CheckYes replied to Rainydayz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Rainy, Check on some of the lowfat Cambell soups for recipes. My mom used to make something with chicken, cream of mushroom soup and broccoli. It was good when I was a kid. You might find some casserole type things. -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?
CheckYes replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey all, Hope everyone is doing well. I keep reading the new threads and usually skip this one because I worry I will have to read the whole thing to be updated on what's going on with my fellow Decembers. Forget that! I'm just going to start reading this one first every day. I've been trying to make the most of my band. Haven't had any fills yet but I don't think I need one. I don't feel hunger very often and if I do I am able to control that hunger with a small meal. I can't tell if this is for physical reasons or mental reasons. I'm not trying NOT to have a fill, I am just terrified of all the trouble that can happen with being overfilled and I'm also really worried that if I got a fill I would feel some physical sensation and that freaks me out. I am surprised that I'm not overly emotional considering I don't have food for comfort anymore. I know I was an emotional eater but I expected to kind of have a breakdown over it but that hasn't happened. I feel so uninterested in food now. I kind of don't care what I eat (I mean that I have eaten healthily every single day since my banding and don't crave anything at all). Is loss of interest a hunger hormone thing? I'm down 50 pounds. I was in a size 22 jeans and am now in a 14W. I'm down from a 44B bra to a 38C and now have SO many more options available to me. My feet have even shrunk from a 9 to in between an 8 to 8.5. I still have about 73 pounds to lose and to be honest I feel a bit scared about making it down there. I've never been that weight except very briefly on my way up. Am I just being a big scaredy cat? I am starting to think maybe I am now that I have read what I have written. I guess I'm a bit scared to think I might get to a healthy weight and then how do I stop all the things from happening that I packed the weight on to prevent in the first place?!? Arghhhhhh. I guess I know what I will be talking to my therapist about today.... -
Do you use a food scale? Which one?
CheckYes replied to Rainydayz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use a cuisinart scale. I think I got it at target and it has been great. -
Could it be acid reflux? My sister gets a cough that nothing she takes helps. The doc put her on prevacid for a week and it worked. She had no feeling at all of any acid reflux or anything. We were all shocked it worked but it did.

How am I supposed to feel
CheckYes replied to Amanda1982's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can count on one hand how many times I have been hungry since surgery. I feel really lucky that I don't have to fight with hunger. I know it is a huge struggle for others. Consider yourself lucky too! -
bahah was asked whats going on?
CheckYes replied to Pinkygirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Why Don't the Nerve Endings (In The Pouch Area) Control Head Hunger More?
CheckYes replied to marketingdude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, that was how I was thinking of it too. -
So awesome! Congratulations!

Maybe take some extra vitamin C? You put your body through a lot with the surgery and change in eating habits. Maybe it hasn't bounced back fully. I bet next winter you will be less susceptible.

Hi, Call your doc in the morning. Redness and an incision feeling hot should be looked at. Are you drinking your water? Sip sip sip all day long. It gets better every day. Best wishes.

I have a Fill appointment this week...
CheckYes replied to nomorejellybelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope your fill goes well and there isn't any trouble finding the port. What do you generally eat? Are you hoping for more restriction so you'll eat less or more restriction so your choices are limited? Either way, I'll keep my fingers crossed for a good experience. -
Why Don't the Nerve Endings (In The Pouch Area) Control Head Hunger More?
CheckYes replied to marketingdude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think head hunger is a thought, not a physical thing. I might be thinking of tour question wrong but when people say head hunger I think of it being kind of the same as thinking "I like the color blue". There's no physical sensation to it and it's merely a thought. Im not explaining myself well at all here. Am I misunderstanding what head hunger means? -
Thank god for the lap band
CheckYes replied to Lovinglife24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wanted to blow my own horn here... As of today, I am down 50 pounds since December 9. No fills yet. I hope to not have one because I see what people go through with varying levels of fill. Seems like such a delicate thing and I'm doing ok right now. -
WAY off track and can't find my way back!!!
CheckYes replied to skinny31's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Have you ever considered attending a food addicts anonymous meeting? It's a good program that you work with a sponsor - just show up at a meeting and talk to the facilitator. Www.foodaddictsanonymous.org. I think they also have online meetings and support. I wish you the best of luck. -
Oh my god. Me too. I hate all the time I've wasted. For the first time, I actually feel hopeful about success.

Pain in my right shoulder, yep I said right :)
CheckYes replied to muelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suspect it might not be band related. Let us know what the doc says!
