Right after surgery
CheckYes replied to krystina1216's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was not in much pain at all after surgery. I was, however, REALLY tired from the lack of calories and just recovering in general. I probably had to nap every day for the first two weeks. If I had been working it would have been really difficult. -
Sugar free gummi bears or worms?
CheckYes replied to FLMichael's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had an MRI today and the nurse refused a boy for radiology services because he had sucked on life savers. I was really surprised but thought I would mentioned that she specifically told his mother that it is not a clear liquid. It's got to be a clear liquid when you put it in your mouth. Just an FYI but do what you like. -
When will I start eating less
CheckYes replied to MemeApril2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The band will never do all the work for you. You need to exercise some control over yourself and your eating habits. Buckle down and do this! You wanted it enough to have surgery - follow it up with a commitment to yourself to take good care of yourself. -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?
CheckYes replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yahooooo! Feels good to be successful! -
I like ThinkThin bars. They are sugar and gluten free but yummy! They come in a regular size and a 100 calorie size. Toffee Nut Crunch and Mudslide are my favorite chocolatey ones but I also love the Tangerine Dream which tastes like a 50/50 Popsicle.

The timing was meant to be. Glad you told him.

Psychologist Insurance Coverage
CheckYes replied to Robert L.'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was self pay and was not required to see a psychologist. -
What are the must have medications to have prepared?
CheckYes replied to Sheran4eva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sugar free Popsicles were heaven! I used the liquid prescribed meda only for day one, then I switch to Tylenol. I only needed Tylenol for one day but it did help. I don't know if the Tylenol recall is still going on but the CVS generic brand is just as good (and wasn't recalled). Another must for me were Listerine breath strips. The bad breath from ketosis or Protein shakes or whatever it was from was icky! -
Cost of Lap Band out of pocket
CheckYes replied to wannawearabikini's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I paid $13,900 here in California. I feel that the skill of the surgeon makes a lot of difference is recovery time and band success when it comes to placement and fills. Do your research on the surgeon and talk to other patients, if possible, to see what their experiences were with the surgeon. -
Pain was not what I thought
CheckYes replied to TexasNurseMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So glad you got this looked at. You should start feeling better soon with medication. -
What's the deal with the different sized bands?
CheckYes replied to gettinthelapbandtogether's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wonder why he would prefer the big port. I would think the low profile port would be much desirable. What size band did he place? I don't think they use the 4th bands anymore except in Mexico. I don't know what size band I have but I would think the surgeon would place a smaller band so you would reach restriction faster but I'm not sure. -
What about prune juice?
CheckYes replied to sashields's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure it works but most fruit juices are loaded with sugar. If it fits into your calorie budget - go for it. -
I had an EKG and a chest xray but that's it. My primary care physician did both.

Maggie, Get right back on that horse immediately! You are not the only person to have cheated on the pre-op. Just don't do it again and you should be fine!

A few post op questions! Help :)
CheckYes replied to Emmster321's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I can't really speak to the hunger issue as I never really experience that - I know others do so I know it is normal. You might feel a bit more satisfied once you are on mushies but you will still have hunger until you reach adequate restriction. As for the burping, I occasionally have a little burp but it isn't often. Some people have said that when they burp they know they are full but it doesn't sound like that is what is happening for you. I would suggest that you try to be really mindful about not taking air in when you drink. If you are using a straw - stop for a few days and see if that works. If you aren't using a straw, try to be aware of air that you might be taking in right before you sip. I am a tummy sleeper too and have been sleeping on my tummy since day 2 post op. It shouldn't cause any trouble. There have been a few mornings that I wake up and felt slightly sore in the middle of my tummy but by the time I am out of the shower that feeling is gone. Good luck on your journey! -
BIG difference! Good for you!

Someone here said to fill an athletic sock with uncooked Rice and put it in the microwave to heat. It's like a heating pad and it stays warm a long time. Best wishes!

i need to learn how to chew and eat as a banded person
CheckYes replied to options123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wonder if you might have had fill put in at the time of surgery. Do you know? -
driving afte3r band???need advice
CheckYes replied to Rosalinam.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why would that happen? I'm not sure I'm understanding the question perhaps. It might be a bit uncomfortable right after surgery with bumps and potholes and stuff but it should be fine. I had no restrictions with driving after surgery except to not drive while I was on pain meds. Try not to worry. Youve got cushion on the inside. -

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
CheckYes replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Vicky, from what I have seen, you are one of those bandsters who have stuck with the plan and are committed to your journey. I bet that your body went a bit nuts from losing 10 lbs so fast. Give it a bit of time to catch up with you. I say stick with the regimen that has worked for you since November. You've been doing great and I really think the change in medication just needs to be given some time to adjust within your body's chemistry. Keep up the good work. Are you exercising? Maybe an extra walk in the evening might shake things up a bit (unless you are already doing that!) -
I took me four months from initial orientation meeting with the surgeon to my actual surgery date and I was self pay! It will fly by.

I was a 9, now an 8 after 64 pounds lost.
