Hello all, I was sleeved in September 2012 and lost about 70lbs but have gained it back over the years. I’m having a revision to bypass due to severe GERD. I was looking for some books to read on the bypass procedure and maybe recommended eating plans etc. can anyone recommend a book that helped them? Thanks in advance!

Me too! I was sleeved in 2012. I’m looking forward to the surgery, counting the days!

Sleeve to Bypass revision- throwing up food every time I eat
Odee replied to Ontheroadtoslim's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Our journey is very similar. I was sleeved in 2012 and was fairly successful but have since gained it all back. A couple months ago I visited my original surgeon as I was suffering horribly with acid reflux. The ph test was horrible! I’m scheduled for January 29th and I can’t wait! So I’m sorry I can’t offer any advice. But I wish you the best of luck and hopefully we can stay in touch. -
Revision sleeve to bypass
Odee replied to Mrs Jackson's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m having a revision to RNY from the sleeve (2012). I’m considered a “lower” BMI. I have extreme GERD. I had to have the PH test done, which was horrible and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Also, had to have an upper GI done. I have a hernia and a hiatal hernia. I was approved in a couple days and am scheduled for surgery January 29th. Best of luck to you. -
I’m scheduled for January 29th... this is a revision from the sleeve to RNY. Kinda nervous but excited at the same time! I hope we can all keep in touch during our journeys.

Hello, I was sleeved in 2012. Hoping to get revision to bypass. Had the upper GI and it showed acid reflux, a hiatal hernia and spasms. I thought this is great! Saw my surgeon on Friday and he said the results were great, just what we wanted. But I still have to have the PH test. I am not looking forward to this at all. Even the nurse said it’s a very unpleasant experience. I’ll have to have a catheter down my nose and throat to my esophagus to measure the amount of acid. I have to leave it in for 24 hours. There is a test I have to do before that is the office before the PH test. She didn’t go into details too much but said it’s the worse of the two. I asked my surgeon after the PH test, what are the odds Cigna will approve the surgery and he said FANTASTIC. He said after the test he’ll submit to insurance. I’m nervous about this PH test for a variety of reasons. Has anyone else gone through this process for a revision?

Rheumatoid Arthritis Or Other Autoimmune Disease / Problems
Odee posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi All, Just curious if there are any other sleevers, future or sleeved, that have RA or similar health issues. I have Rheumatoid arthritis and 2011 was a horrible year for me. Lots of pain and lots of health issues. Anyhow, just looking to share the experiences. Odee -

Hi guys, I was sleeved on 9/4 and have had a great recovery. Just starting last week I've had some really severe acid reflux. My surgeon said to go back to liquids for a couple days. So I did that BUT last night cheated. The husband and kids were having taco's for dinner and I had a bite of the ground beef taco meat. Felt ok but woke up in the middle of the night with the most sever acid ever. I was basically gurgling and it was burning in my throat. I took my medicine and maalox and it took a couple hours but then it subsided. I still can feel it a little bit and this is many hours later. I guess that was my lesson to learn. I actually feel ashamed and embarrassed to admit this. I thought because I felt so good and have been doing so good that one little bite wouldn't hurt. Guess I was wrong, thats what I assume happened. Even though I was having the acid reflux before I took the bite of meat I know the episode last night was from eating the taco meat. I can't believe that I took such a risk. I never realized how bad my addiction to food is. I'll admit there have been a couple times that I have cheated with meat. Taking a bite here and there of a piece of steak and then a piece of chicken. I am educated and fully aware of the risks yet I did it anyway. How messed up is that?? I realize now this is deeper than I realized and I need to get a handle on it somehow. I know we all have our own personal issues with food, that is why most of us are here. Any advice from anyone who has gone through this similar experience is appreciated. Thanks, Odee

Almost 3 Weeks Out From Surgery And Realizing How Bad My Food Addiction Is
Odee replied to Odee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@butterthebean - It is definitely head hunger and yup, I am pretty pissed off and motivated to not be this person anymore. I think I am also so surprised because I never thought I was “this person”. I thought I was going to be a model patient and follow everything to the T. What an awakening. Thank you for the reply. @Linsey Bias – I can totally relate to where you are and what you are going through. Although my weakness is meat, not sugar or ice cream. Strange, I know! LOL The realization is just so heavy its hard to not beat myself up. Thank you for your support and we will get through this! @robynluevano – yes I was on Prilosec pre surgery and am on liquid pepcid now. I also use the Maalox and have been chewing tons of Tums. @Ms skinniness – thank you for your response. Yes, back on the bandwagon for me! This had been a huge wake up call. Thanks again. @BrokeMyHalo – thank you, yes I would love some book titles! I am also looking into a therapist. I love to read and this would be very helpful for me. Thank you for the encouragement. This whole experience has been an eye opener and I am truly blessed to have had such an easy recovery so far. The shame I feel over my realization of my relationship with food (addiction) is something I now understand that I have to address head on and take my head out of the sand and take some action and get my life together. Thanks guys. -
My Fellow 9/4 (Or Last Week) Sleevers - How Are You Doing ?
Odee replied to Odee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys - I was sleeved on the 4th, so tomorrow is 2 weeks and I have NO problems drinking ( I can chug) or problems eating - I've had a couple bites of pizza (chewed to mush) and a couple bites of chickedn (again chewed to mush). I am sooooo tired of the shakes and find I am even daydreaming about food. Ugh... I really have a problem... Anyone else able to "eat" or tried eating in the first couple weeks after surgery? Thanks guys, Odee -

My Fellow 9/4 (Or Last Week) Sleevers - How Are You Doing ?
Odee replied to Odee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too am interested in any ideas on some shake ideas. What is everyone doing with their shakes ? I actually had a headache today (1st one since surgery) and drank Carnation Breakfast drinks instead of my shakes today. Spent most of the day in bed. -
My Fellow 9/4 (Or Last Week) Sleevers - How Are You Doing ?
Odee replied to Odee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be honest, my first day - the day of surgery - was horrible for me. I had a lot of pain and nausea. I did vomit a lot. I guess I had a bad reaction to the anesthesia. The second day was more of the same and I remember thinking man this sucks. The nausea was the worst, also they don't use pain pumps. They do IV pain med's and the schedule was every 4 hours. Sometimes I would wake up in the middle of the night and they would tell me "oh you have another hour before you can have more pain medicine". That did not go over well with me at all. Anyhow, again, overall I am very happy. I feel great and am thankful to be in such good shape after going through a major surgery just a few days ago. Thanks again everyone for sharing ! -
My Fellow 9/4 (Or Last Week) Sleevers - How Are You Doing ?
Odee replied to Odee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad you are feeling good. I started the creamy soups and Protein shakes also. I have to admit that I am having a HARD time getting in all of my protein. I do NOT like the shakes. I've got a bunch of different brands and samples and each one is hard to get down. Getting all my liquids in has become a full time job! I am however, surprised by how easy I am getting Water in. Confession - I had a scrambled egg today. I couldn't even finish the whole thing, I ate about 3/4 of ONE scrambled egg and I was DONE! But man did it hit the spot!! And it was nice to chew! I have to be honest, my first and second day were horrible and to be where I am right now, I feel truly blessed. I feel so good and appreciate every minute I have feeling like this. I know the complications that could have occurred and am just so thankful that I not only got through it but on day 9 am feeling so great. Thanks for sharing ! -
