  1. My name is Carlie. I am 27 years old and I have struggled with weight my entire life. I live in Tucson, Arizona. I love to travel, volunteer, dance, workout, run, exercise, hike, rock climb, play the violin, go to movies, listen to music and spend time with my family. I was banded two weeks ago. I am trying to change old patterns. I love eating anything unhealthy (donuts, Cookies, candy, ice cream etc.), but up until now have maintained a decent weight. Recently, since December I have gained 70 pounds, which is the most I have ever weighed equalling 192. My weight gain was extremely rapid. I have a scary family medical family history. I am excited to have the band, but I feel I am not following all the rules. I don't think I am doing everything I am supposed to. Please help. Sincerely, Carlie:eek:
  2. Thank you so much for responding. I would really appreciate the support. The same goes both ways. I know you haven't been banded yet, but it is never too early to start practicing. Once you are banded you will still be able to eat until you get filled. I haven't been filled yet, but I am finding it harder than I thought. I have to be more self disciplined and responsible than I thought. The band is only a tool! Thank you so much.

If you don't mind me asking what is rebanding? Is this quite common? I am fairly new to this.
  4. I feel great! I haven't gotten sick, yet! However, I have read that other people have had different experiences. I am so excited for you! I love my band already. The surgery was fairly easy. However, it seems like others lose a lot more weight in the first two weeks. I feel as though I am doing something wrong. I am on the mushy phase. I try to measure everything I eat. Good luck.

Old patterns, a new life, history

I never in a million years would have guessed I would be recovering from lap band surgery. I guess a million is slightly dramatic, but I really thought I finally had my weight under control. Last year, in the spring and winter of 2009 I had just run three marathons. Last summer I was 120. What happened? How did I get to 192 from December to August? As long as I can remember my weight has fluctuated drastically since I was a child. I always had to watch what I ate. The lap band is giving me the opportunity to stay at a steady weight and beat the odds of my family history. I love to exercise and I have always been active. I also have taught nutrition classes and exercise classes. However, I love junk food. Cookies, candies, cakes, McDonalds, etc. I am trying to establish new healthy eating habits. I just feel I don't know if I am off to a good start with the band. I haven't lost that much weight. I feel old patterns still are present. Even though I am not eating that much food. Is it possible to still be cheating? I am confused.

Does any one have an idea how soon after surgery can you start exercising? I am interested in running and taking exercise classes? I am getting a little anxious to start working out again. Just curious if anyone knows. Thank you.
