Why do people say Revision patients lose slower
PrincessErin replied to PrincessErin's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm hoping with a year in between my surgeries, I will respond like it's not a revision. I can see how seasoned WLS patients can trick themselves into eating more or bending the rules. Maybe the year off from my band was a good thing. I guess I will find out! I can't wait to see how different it is with RNY. Is the transition between the two hard? -
I understand your disappointment. It is so hard waking up and finding out that not only is your (malfunctioning) tool you gone, but now you're on your own again. I had a lot of bitterness and resentment over that fact. Unfortunately, I also had a lot of damage. My stomach needed time to heal and I ultimately know my surgeon did what was best. He said he would hate for me to have the disappointment of TWO failed surgeries. That certainly put it in perspective for me. I've been without my band for almost a year. I've gained 22 pounds. My revision to RNY is set for February 3. I'm so excited. You'll get your revision, too. It will be at just the right time.

What Was Your Ah-Ha (Or Oh Crap) Moment?
PrincessErin replied to SoccerMomma73's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wow. That was my life with the band. That look of agony. My whole family knew what it meant. That is some terrible pain and it happened to me almost daily. I had the band out almost a year ago and I am having the RNY procedure next month. I love reading about how much different it is. -
I'm so excited for you!!!! I can't wait to hear all about it!!

Help! Being revised from band to RNY on Monday. I don't know what to expect!
PrincessErin posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone! I am literally laying in a hospital bed due to complications from my Realize band! I am receiving antibiotics and my new Dr plans on taking out my band and revising to RNY at the same time. Any advice? What should I expect for recovery? What can I eat afterwards? In sure he will go over all this, but I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. -

You sound like you're doing great!! -
I am going to be honest and tell you I've had "last supper syndrome" for a few weeks. Monday starts my high protein/low carb diet until January 20 when my liquid diet starts.

After almost a year wait, I am scheduled for my RNY on February 3rd. I've gained back about 25 pounds this last year. I'm so excited to finally have the RNY procedure. I can't wait! -
Did you have any plastic surgery? You don't look like you have any excess skin at all! You truly look amazing!! You are an inspiration!

I'm thinking about starting a blog but I'm not sure. I had one when I had my lapband but I didn't keep up with it. Do you have one?

Hi everyone! Is there a thread where I can read surgery day stories? I've searched but I will admit to having a little trouble using the app on my phone.

My surgery is scheduled for February 3rd. I had a band and it had to be removed due to terrible complications. I've gained half the weight back in the last year that it's been out. My doctor suggested RNY over the sleeve due to my previous complications. I'm nervous because they say if you've had a band you lose weight slower but I'm excited to have the bypass. I don't understand the logic behind losing slower because I've had a band in the past so I am hoping to prove the naysayers wrong!

Congrats on a successful surgery. I hope all goes well for you!

Help! Being revised from band to RNY on Monday. I don't know what to expect!
PrincessErin replied to PrincessErin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There was entirely too much damage from the band and the Dr couldn't dothe revision. My bad was 80% eroded and there was a hole that had to be repaired. So now I am left wondering what is next. I'm so disappointed. -

Thank you so much for your replies! I am about an hour away from my surgery. I'm so nervous because I will either wake up with RNY or without it! It really depends on the damage my band has done. I'm sad to see my band go, but relieved as well. I just hope they can do the RNY ar this time! -
I was banded on 03/23/11. I've had a very interesting journey, it's been difficult at times but I do not regret it one little bit! In May, I had to have my port removed due to a staph infection that I contracted in office when My Dr tried to drain a very large, painful seroma that had developed over my port area. I had to have an endoscopy to ensure that the band was not infected or slipped, and then the port had to be removed. After that, I went home from the hospital with a PICC line and a wound vac for a month. That was NOT easy. A PICC line can be very taxing emotionally, and the wound vac is just gross. It all ended fine and in July I received my brand new port on the other side of my stomach. Since March 23, I have lost 52.8 pounds. Mostly with no fill, due to all the drama with not having a port, etc. Right now I have 3CC's in my band and I am comfortable with that amount. I have the non Lap Band version of the band. I can never remember the name and I don't think it really matters. I swim and I bike. I do not kill myself but I stay very active. I would like to step it up now that life has been rebalanced and join a gym. (I just went through a divorce AND I lost my job all at the same time that I was so sick with the staph infection! It was a crazy summer!!!) I love to exercise and I love to be active. I don't know how to answer the "do you eat properly" question. Yes, I chew my food very slowly and I do not eat more than 1 cup of food at a time. A lot of people have a lot of opinions about what is proper on this board - I would say I fall in the middle. I am not a hardcore dieter. I let myself enjoy tasty food - but I don't and can't enjoy very much of it at a time. A typical day for me is: Iced coffee in the morning (yes, caffeine in the form of coffee) 100 calories with the creamer I use I can't eat very much in the AM due to tightness in the band and I've learned not to bother trying. lunch - now that I'm working, this is the most difficult for me - I hate fast food, I can't eat it but I feel forced because it's 1. the only thing available and 2. gets me out of the office for an hour. I normally have a piece of chicken from somewhere and Water. Sometimes this chicken is fried. Sometimes it isn't. I can't eat a hamburger or fries or anything like that. It gets stuck. Sometimes, I have a peice of candy in the afternoon. As in 1 mini peice of candy. This is so bizzare to me because I used to eat king sized candy bars like it was a snack. Speaking of portion sizes, how many of you order a kid's meal at a restaurant and think it's too much food?? Can you believe we feed our tiny children this much food?? Can you believe that at one point I would have thought you were crazy if you told me that a kid's meal was more than enough food for an adult!??! I have friends who are raw vegans, and I buy my afternoon Snacks from them. Usually, it's something cleverly disguised as something else. dinner is whatever I cook for my family. I have learned how much and what I can eat of what I cook. For instance, last night I made Pasta Fajole and garlic bread. I didn't even bother with the bread but I did enjoy the Soup with no issues. I had about 3/4 of a cup of the soup. I generally eat 3-4 times a day, including the coffee and including the snack. I don't pick the best choices for lunch and I think this is why my weight loss hasn't been faster. I don't regret any part of my band but sometimes, especially when I'm REALLY HUNGRY and then I can eat like 4 bites - I get kind of frustrated. Old habits...

I'm new to the process but hopefully will be using U.S. Bariatrics at Flagler Hospital. I'm wondering if anyone out there has experience using UHC Choice Plus through Georgia Pacific? Does anyone have experience using US Bariatrics through Flagler? I look forward to getting to know you Florida bandsters!
