how much SF pudding to protein drink
BrwnEydGrl82 replied to cosean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I got high protein pudding at gnc. They have choc and vanilla. It is 35 grams of protein, 100 calories and 2 grams of fat. It doesn't have the protein taste ot smell which makes me gag. I use i can of pudding and a can to a can and a half of skim mik and it;s great. I also heard from people that are big on protien shakes to mix apple juic with protein powder. I tasted it and it was pretty good- better than mixed with milk or water- and you don't even taste the apple. -
You can also bring bullion cubes. Some are better than others. When I traveled I would ask the flight attendant for hot water and make my own soup. They also have the cambells to go cups. These are great when you are in a hurry. and on the go. Someone also posted about high protein pudding- 35 grams of protein, 2 grams of fat and 100 calories. These are great and filling and don't need to be refridgerated. I bought some at gnc.

For me that was really disturbing. I hate needles and now I'm nervous about my fist fill- I guess I'll have to keep my eyes shut. I then went to go see the banding video- I made it 10 seconds before closing the window.

<HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1> <!-- / icon and title --><!-- message --> I'm so excited right now. I was a self pay for the band- I knew my insurance wouldn't cover it b/c I didn't meet the criteria. So I was banded in TJ by Dr. Ortiz(who is amazing!!!). I was looking for a fill dr in NY and the name Christine Ren kept coming up. So I called her and s/w the receptionist who askd for my insurance info. It turns out she is one of my insurance's network providers and my copay is only $15.00 for each fill. I called my insurance to ensure this was covered and it is, b/c is considered a specialist visit. I just figured I would let everyone know , b/c I had no idea this would be covered.

vitamins after surgery
BrwnEydGrl82 replied to nevrenson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. My uncle who is a pharmacist - recommended 2 vitatmins for me. Either a liquid or chewable centrum and a liquid or chewable caltrate or viactiv. My uncle did not recommend flinstone vitamins b/c it does not have a strong enough dosage for adults. He really stressed taking both or these to avoid a vitamin defficeny to avoid hair loss and other complications. Vitamin defeicenies have also been linked to cancer... so make sure you are getting in enough of these. Before being banded I never used these on a regular basis but I had the essential vitamins coming in other ways. But after being banded my uncle really stressed this and it makes sense to me. -
Hair Loss after Surgery
BrwnEydGrl82 replied to Levi27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In addition to making sure you have prein my pharmacist also advised me to take chewable centrum and a chewable calcium (caltrate 600). He stated this will also assist with prevention of malnutrition which will prevent hair loss. I'm not taking any chances. -
I just wanted to add on to a post that was listed earlier. The one about using the progresso soup and mixing it into the blender. They have the low carb high protein ones.

Don't worry just think of the long term results and how great you are going to look and feel. (And how jealous you are going to make people- oh, thats mean- but oh well- it's the truth). Your house is clean and once your surgery is done you will come home to a clean house, and you'll start out the new year- healthy! Think positive!

I'm in Yonkers. I was banded 12/15/06 by Dr Ortiz in TJ. He was great. His partner for his Cancun location is the Cheif of St Vincents- Dr Nick Gabriel. It was suggested that I could go to Christine Ren from NYU who is supposed to be good too, for fills. Also Lennox Hill Hospital.

5 days post op and feeling almost back to normal. The gas pains have been kind of bad, but have been progressively been getting better. Thank heaven for chewable gasx. I think my dr has the longest liquid phase (and there is no mushie phase!) 1 week of clear liquids and the 2nd week you can incorporate protein shakes and drinkable yougurt and cream soups (but this can be started day 6). I usually hate vitamins but I started taking chewable centrum and chewable caltrate (my uncle is a pharmacist- and this is what he recommended). It's not bad- they dont have that horrible vitamin smell. I have been speaking to people who are big on fitness and protein shakes (the ex boyfriend- included) and he recommends mixing the protein powder with apple juice. It sounded gross but then I heard it from people at Trader joes so I think I'm going to try it. I heard you don't taste the apple it just makes it sweet and more like a milkshake. Aslo I don't know if anybody has checked out the food board but they have a sticky for liquid stage with some really good idea's. I have a question for everybody. By new years I will be 2 weeks and a couple of days post op do you think a glass or two glasses tops of wine will kill me or hurt the band? I hope everybody has a good day !!!

I'm having my surgery on 12/15 and I was told I need to quit smoking for the surgery. And I'm having difficulties doing so. DId anybody not quit before there surgery? DOes smoking effect your recovery? What if I cut just cut back? My lung function is normal- I don't get winded easily. I usually smoke a pack a day. Yesterday I had a half a pack. Does anybody have any suggestions for quitting?

Hi, I'm from westchester and I will be getting banded by Dr Ortiz on Dec 15th. I'm going to need a fill dr in the nyc area and possibly a support group. I saw that there is one at Lenox Hill and NYU. I started my liquid diet today and I'm struggling with trying to quit smoking. How's everyone else doing??
-
Thank you for your support and feedback. I was thinking of cutting down. I usually smoke a pack a day. But I was thinking Of cutting down to 10 today 5 tomorrow and thereafter and then try to stop the monday before my friday surgery. I want to quit but it's hard going on a liquid type of diet w/o the cigarettes (especially the first few days). I can give up food I can give up diet coke (even though that will be a struggle) But it will definately be harder to give up the cigarettes.

I have have not yet been banded. I'm getting banded on 12/15. Over the past 4 months I have lost 20 lbs and I have 70 to go. I'm 24 yrs old. And Im curious to know if I'm going to have excess skin that will need to be removed after I lose the weight? I know there is no way of forecasting of whether or not this will be an issue... however I would be interested to hear from people with similar stats on whether or not excess skin was an issue after weight loss.

Hi I'm getting banded on 12/15 w/ Dr.Ortiz. I feel really confident in my decision, but I'm not going to lie, I nervous about life post op. Im 225 and 5'7. I was 240- and I lost weight doing weight watchers. Since deciding on getting banded I (3 weeks ago) i have gained 5 lbs. I have eaten everything I wanted and more and I start my 2 shakes and a lean cusine tomorrow and then the last 6 days pre op I'm going to do 3 protein shakes a day to make up for the weight I gained. I'm nervous about losing too quickly and getting excess skin. Is anybody else nervous about this? Im 24- so I'm hoping my skin will be resilient. Is anyone else getting banded by DrOrtiz?
