I had LP surgery in January 2006 and had absolutely no problems during recovery. I was on a liquid diet for six weeks -- I understand that time has been shortened considerably for more recent lab banders. During the six weeks I was on a liquid diet I lost about 30 lbs. When I had my first fill I was given only .5 cc and everything went well -- two weeks later another .5 cc and two weeks later 1.0 cc. By this time I had lost a total of 40 pounds. This was when my trouble began. I begin to experience vomiting almost every time I would eat anything no matter how small or how slow I ate. I went through a period after each meal that I have learned is called slimming. To those who are not familiar with this -- it is where the food gets stuck and you must expel the excess gastric fluids that the esophagus produces to move food through to the stomach. This is extremely painful in that the food is sitting in the esophagus unable to move down and you feel like you have to vomit to get it back up, but the only thing that comes up is clear gastric fluids.Long story short...............I never got passed this. My doctor removing all lap band saline and starting over several times. I was never able to tolerate even the smallest amount. Today, I have nothing in the lap band, but still have the band and often experience the same thing. I am thinking I will have to have it removed.
