JourneyLite -- Anyone Use them for surgery?
kimberleec posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am going to Journey Lite Surgery center. I have been doing research for almost four years and have been researching and following Dr. Trace Curry who is the surgeon in the Cincinnati, Ohio office. Just curious if anyone has had any experience with this Doctor or with the Journey Lite facility. If anyone has any information I would love to hear from you. I have an appointment on September1, for the seminar, psych evaluation, nutrition and paperwork. I have everything in order that is required by the insurance company it is just a matter of submitting and waiting for the final approval. I am getting anxious of the outcome. So while I am waiting I will continue to research. :cursing: -
OTC Sleeping Pills
kimberleec replied to blissa033's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had sleep issues for at least 13 years and have experimented with just about everything on the OTC and prescription market. I hate the feeling I have from prescription and the cost so i quit those a longtime ago. I have always used a variety of things and never the same one for any length of time. The OTC Tylenol PM, Advil PM and Excedrine PM are all basically the same but have different amounts of the active ingredient. So I just buy a medium size bottle of one and then when Im finished with that bottle I switch to another brand. Never buying the giant bottle and never the same two in a row. I also rotate Melatonin (spelling) and OTC herbal it works pretty good. However on the upside, since I have had the band, I have not had near the issues that I use to have and find that I am rarely needing to take anything...I'm not sure why that is but I am happy. Hope this helps! -

what am I doing wrong
kimberleec replied to Emma Grace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am no expert but maybe its the type of liquids that you are consuming? What type of soup are you eating? Is it high in protein and low in carbs and fat? Also what are you drinking throughout the day? Soda, water, juice? Liquid calories are the sneaky calories. Give us some more information on what types of things you are eating. Also, how about exercise? Have you been able to work that in yet? -

Butchered Belly Button
kimberleec replied to mattie7632's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Give it time. I was banded on 11/15 and once I can my senses about me and began examining my incisions I was totally upset that he had gone through my belly button. It felt huge under the steri strips, once the came off it looked even worse and I was certain that I would have to do something to get it fixed. Now almost two months later it is still not 100% healed but it looks awesome and you will never be able to tell there was ever anything. So hopefully its just swollen and angry from the surgery and will settle down. -
"That Full Feeling!?!?"
kimberleec replied to mhelms_2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Full for me is a piercing pain in my left shoulder. It is really uncomfortable. I am not sure if this is normal or if its left over irritation from all the gas pain I had from surgery. However, I have noticed if I eat one bite too much I get this pain in my left shoulder and it doesnt go away until the food has passed! Crazy, I have learned where that point is but sometimes it sneaks up on you. -
banded 11/17 only lost 13 lbs
kimberleec replied to txharley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't be discouraged! I am trying not to be, I was banded on 11/15 and have lost 30 lbs. However 18 of that was pre-op. I am extremely hungry all the time and have been loading up on as much Protein and Water as I can. I had my first fill on 12/13 and it was pretty good until about a week ago and now I am really super hungry and want everything. Trying to stay focused, my second fill is on friday 1/14 and I hope i will feel some restriction so that I can be motivated. I keep telling myself as long as I am going forward and losing something, its progress! Patience we can all get throught this, better things are yet to come! Kim -

Thanks Purple for the welcome. I am hanging there today at this moment....LOL. I have done all my pre-op paperwork, have my prescriptions for pain med and nausea. I am pretty sure I am ready to go, now just waiting on the 15th. I need to update my ticker because I have already lost 9 lbs., five days into this but I dont remember how...oh well I will figure it out soon enough. So sorry to hear about the night before cleansing you have to do (YUCK). Hope it goes well. How are you doing on the pre-op diet? I think I am over the hump and it should be smooth sailing for the rest of the two weeks, at least I HOPE! -

kimberleec replied to PUG MAMA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone! I'm Kim and I have Nov 15th at 8am. I am on day five of my pre-op diet which is medi-fast. However only the shakes, soups and pudding. I have done well with the diet but emotionally it has been tough! Day three was probably the worst. I also gave up diet coke (my coffee) which according to the doctor I didnt have to do until after the surgery but I decided I might as well go ahead and cut ties with it now also. Its great that we have a thread just for our date. I am looking forward to reading everyones story and sharing mine. This board as been a huge help for me. Although my journey from Consult to Approval did not take a huge amount of time, I have spent the last four years reasearching this so I knew everything had to do and I had all my documentation. I have BC/BS of Nebraska and the took the full 30 days to make the decision. I will be off work for three weeks after the surgery. Keep me posted and anyone message me if you would like. :frown: -

I am going crazy and would love to have some real food. My diet is medi-fast except you can no have the lean and green meal. I have twelve more days, I am so frustrated and hope my days fly by. Thanks for listening and good luck to everyone. -

Waiting on insurance approval and it makes me sick to my stomach
kimberleec replied to spoiltmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too am playing the waiting game! I have BC/BS of Nebraska. They show that it was received on September 24, 2010 and according to them it could take up to fourteen days. I hope it doesnt take that long, like the rest of you I am sick to my stomach everyday waiting for the news. Any advice of finding out the determination early or do you just wait for a call from the doctor or a letter from the insurance company?? Congrats to all who have been approved!! and Good Luck to those who are waiting. Kim -

Concerns about approval
kimberleec replied to nancy_marie_00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have just begun the journey. I went on Wednesday to my first consult and took all required paperwork with me. I am 37 with a BMI of 43 NO comorbities at all. I too was worried about being too healthy in some respects but after meeting with the surgeon and everyone else there he and the insurance girl told me that it would be on the contrary, I should have an easier time getting approved because other than being overweight I have no issues. Lots less to do as far as paperwork and clearances. Hopefully they know what they are doing. This doctor has performed over 4500 lap band procedures so I am confident that he and his staff know what they are doing. We shall wait and see I should have an answer by the end of September with any luck it will be sooner. -

How long was your journey from 1st Dr.'s visit to surgery?
kimberleec replied to che4u's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have BC/BS of Nebraska and do not have a the 6 month superivsed diet stipulation. I have just started my process and have my first appointment on September 1. The office administrator told me that as long as I have met all the criteria for the insurance best case scenario I cold be having surgery the first of October 2010. I have a $350 deductible and the surgery will cost me out of pocket $1500. Which has to be paid in full before surgery. Be sure to call your insurance company with the CPT code and ask them specifically what criteria must be met. This way there are no surprises. You may have to call a few times to get all the information. I had to call about five times to get all the needed information and they were even gracious enough to email the section in the policy with everything in writting. I wish you good luck on your journey, keep us posted! ~Kim -
Hello everyone: I am new to posting however I have been stalking this board for a few years now trying to make a decision on whether to Lap Band or not to Lap Band. I decided it was for sure for me and made the appointment today and also had sort of a Pre-pre approval on insurance. I have all the documentation needed for insurance and meet and have met all the requirements necessary and have the coverage available. My appointment will be on September 1 and will be pretty much the entire day. I have a seminar, psych evaluation, meet with the surgeon, dietician and do all the insurance paper work. Since I am traveling over and 2 hours one way to get there theys staff was trying to squeeze in as much as they could in one day. I am so excited and hope that the insurance company does not drag their feet to long with the approval. I have never had any experience awaiting insurance approval so I gues this is a wait and see experience. I welcome any thoughts or words of wisdom from anyone. Thanks for giving me a place to rejoice with people who I know undertand. ~Kim

I Made my Appointment
kimberleec replied to kimberleec's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all thanks for the encouraging words and secondly thanks for the diet on the sodas etc. I had already read that information in some of my reasearch and knew it would be a good idea post-op but didnt realize i would need to do it pre-op. So very glad you told me! I am going to try to do as you suggested I too believe it will be easier to quit a things one at a time instead of all at once. Thanks Again! -
Looking for September 2010 Bandsters
kimberleec replied to CSinTX's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got sort of a PRE- pre-approval if you will and a date of September 1 for my pre-op seminar, psych evaluation, nutrition class and paper work. Enlight of the fact that they were willing to invest that much time in me I think they are pretty certain the insurance is ago. The lady I spoke with said best case scenario for me would be October. I hope she is right, I can not wait! Congratulation to all of you who have got scheduled dates or are awaiting scheduled dates......I will be praying for a successful journey for each and everyone of you! -
