thanks for your support! i love the ideas so far...today i've had broccoli and cauliflower for breakfast and a chicken breast salad with ff dressing for lunch...and of course 60oz of water! so i guess today has been low fat...i'm just so damned frustrated! but it's ok-everything happens for a reason...they asked me right away if i would rather have RNY surgery-they'd cover that but not the lapband! ugh! i told them 'no' and i'd just lose the weight...i'm convinced the band is better for me...i'm gonna make it!!!

Did your surgeon call to check up after your surgery?
chubbola replied to JeninCO's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
btw....how did everything go? i have been thinking about you! hope you're doing awesome! courtney -
WOW! applause going out to the 'twins'!!!! i can't wait to be able to say that! be proud of yourselves--you deserve it!
-
i, of course, asked my surgeon about it right away due to the fact that i'm a diet coke junkie. he told me that diet coke will not hurt my success with the band, but he told me to think about the fact that once banded, you really need to get the important nutrients in every day and maybe diet coke wouldn't be such a good choice...i agree with him, i guess lol! then, i asked the nutritionist at the same clinic about it, and she gave me a big fat NO....and that i must stop drinking it immediately...well, she's right too (as i'm sipping on one right now)...but i'm gonna drink it till i'm banded and then say farewell to a comfortable friend of mine....so long diet coke, so long.... courtney

Modesty during Surgery!!!!
chubbola replied to Bandito's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i just had OR rotation as a student nurse, and from what i saw, they take off whatever needs to be taken off! i did notice though, that they wait till the person is 'out' to take off their gowns, panties, etc. and they put them back on before they 'wake you up'. i stood there in sheer horror thinking how my fat rolls are gonna flop over the 6" (or so it seemed) table! but i guess at the end of the day, look how many of us they have seen, and just keep your eye on the prize! good luck to you--- ~courtney -
ok bubble----i must see your guide to newbie nursing---it just might be the topic of conversation that i can bring to class tomorrow!

hi alaine! the seminars are infomational gatherings that a bariatric clinic offers to their prospective patients. i think it's mandatory in the process of getting banded. i am also from wisconsin-going to the uw madison bariatric clinic... hope this clears things up a bit! good luck to you! courtney
-
oh my-i'm in total agreement with you, bubble! i'm in clinicals right now (ADN), and i don't pee, eat, or drink from 6am-4pm lol!
-

this makes me happy to hear! i also have anthem...and i'm waiting for them to receive my papers. they were mailed over two weeks ago and anthem 'never got them' so my bariatric clinic faxed them yesterday. i'm so nervous for the final 'yes' even though they verbally approved it if it was 'medically necessary'...love to hear from you! thanks courtney

Tips Please! Soda, Eating too fast, drinking while eating
chubbola replied to Shesha's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
shesha, shesha, shesha...lol! i feel your pain with the diet coke---i was warned by my nutritionist that i needed to quit cold turkey, so of course that's my new prioritiy in life---diet coke was my new favorite food group for about two weeks after she said that. now, i've weaned myself slowly down to one a day. i remember my surgeon saying that a person can drink it, but is that really what you want to fill your stomach with compared to something more nutritious such as protein? i secretly flipped him off after he said it, but maybe it makes sense...who knows! talk to you soon~ ~courtney -
Headed to hosp... this is it

txbecca~ i hope you're doing great so far...hope to hear from you soon! ps---i'm jealous lol -
hi shesha! ugh-the psych appt went great, and after two appts with the nutritionist, i'm heading back tomo am for my follow up psych appt (why? i'm not sure-they already told me i'm good to go-must need to charge another $800 for me to drive 4 hours round trip for a 'yes-you're not crazy' appt)...but whatever lol! it's kind of a hurry up and wait atmosphere for me right now. i'm trying not to get discouraged, but my initial goal was to get banded on spring break which starts april 2nd. that's a little too far fetched now that it's march 11th! so...in a nutshell-no date for me yet! how are you doing? i'm hoping that you're just dropping lbs---i need someone to chase once i get my band! you can be my wisconsin inspiration! talk to you soon! courtney
-
UGH! we both are having such good luck with our preop stuff-NOT! i've been telling my bariatric center since last november that i would love my surgery during spring break (april 2nd) and here it is march 6th with no date yet! hopefully we can both laugh about this later!!! hang in there-i see a light at the end of this long darned tunnel!!!!! ~courtney

awesome! you'll do great....keep us posted! -
kyethra~ LOL you hit the nail on the head with this!!! she pretty much assumed that because i'm signed up for surgery that my appetite will pretty much disappear before i even get the band! like i'm supposed to turn my eating habits around just cuz i feel like it! do you think blue cross blue shield would consider me going from to wisconsin to illinois "out of network"???? LOL!!!

:mad:UGH~today i had my first appt with my nutritionist....and i'm just pretty much disgusted. she seemed like she was on a big power trip and wanted me to be discouraged about the lapband. first of all, the minute i said i wanted the lapband vs GBP she copped an attitude with me. then, i told her that i quit smoking in december (they have a 3 mos. abstinence from tobacco prior to surgery rule) and she said "and i suppose you want surgery 3 mos. to the date that you quit smoking and i'll just tell you now that you're not gonna get it when you want it"...and nice little digs like that. she showed me a 'satisfied appetite' chart and said she'd see me in 3 weeks. if i knew how to stop when i'm satisfied, would i really need a drastic tool like a lapband? needless to say i walked out of there with a chip on my shoulder. she also told me i hafta read some book by some author before i come back. give me a freaking break here---i thought we were gonna talk about healthy ways of using my band and how i'll need to eat different. i think that would have been a better start instead of basically making me feel guilty for quitting smoking! oh-and by the way-she told me that i need to quit drinking diet coke TODAY. that really sent me over the edge...i went to make my appt with the administrative assistant (who is awesome and supportive) and she told me to ignore the dietician! it was kinda funny and made me feel a bit better! it's just so frustrating.... is this a normal dietician meeting? if it is....that really sucked...if i were my insurance company, i'd ask for a big FAT refund! BTW...i know i have to quit drinking diet coke...but months before my surgery? whatever...
-
i've had a couple of days to cool off and i guess the best thing i can do is to just agree with that woman! i guess i went in there with the attitude that we were going to be a little more positive and encouraging---i guess i'm lucky that my psychologist was awesome and so are the other staff that i've met so far...there's a bad apple in every bag, right?
-
congrats to you, flax! how exciting-i'm sooooooooooo jealous!!! keep us posted!
-
i have anthem BCBS also...my policy pays for up to $20,000 of bariatric surgery, so i'm cutting it pretty close! liz------why did you get denied?
-
the funny thing is...get this...she's not so slim herself (if i had to guess, i'd say 200-220lbs)! i was floored listening to her say how overeating needs to be overcome and she has no problems with saying 'no' to foods that aren't healthy! ummm....i don't think so-sorry! she is an appointed bariatric nutritionist, which is even weirder...i'm almost wondering if she had gbp or something, but then wouldn't she be more understanding and not so above and beyond overweight people?
