My doctor's notes mentioned that the body only absorbs 18-23 grams of protein at a meal - anyone else hear that?
  8. Howdy Folks, I've mostly lurked here for quite some time. I figure since I'm banded now I might as well go ahead and introduce myself. I was banded December 16, and doing great. I had no preop diet required, and since I'm a self-pay, I had no insurance hoops to jump through, only the clearances required by my surgeon. Throughout the process I was often reminded how "healthy" I am. That is, my blood sugars were fine, my blood pressure was fine, resting heart rate was great, EKG was great. I had to keep explaining that I'm doing this BEFORE I develop any issues. I've been researching this for about two years now and can't believe it's finally here. I'm so thrilled to be finally starting this journey. I've lost 15 pounds since my banding, but I thinks it's because my biggest problem has been getting enough protein in, as I have absolutely ZERO appetite (something I've never said before). Yes, I know protein is super important - it's just hard to get it down when I already feel full. Pain is pretty much gone, I can feel a few "twinges" where my port is, especially when I'm trying to get to sleep at night and I roll over on it. I was on the pain meds for about a day and a half afterwards, but mostly it put me right to sleep so I didn't care for it. I tried that liquid tylenol for a headache shortly after and they're crazy if they think I could get two ounces of that stuff down. Icky, very icky. I've learned tons from reading this board, and I'm very thankful to have stumbled upon it when I did. Thanks for all the information you guys have provided, it's been a gift Anyhow, that's all I've got for now, SFS
  9. Thanks for the response I was actually asking not about what shakes you used, but why you were on a liquid diet for two weeks PRIOR to your surgery? As far as I recollect, no one's mentioned anything like that to me. Was it a liver shrinking thing?
  10. Hi there! My surgery is scheduled Dec 16 with Vaughan - I've heard nothing but great things about him and his staff. He banded a very good friend of mine and she loves him as well. I'm going to see him tomorrow actually, but since I got everything I needed for the first appointment done before it, they could go ahead and scheule me. Enough of my yammering tho, and on to my question - why the shakes for two weeks prior? Was that something he had recommended to you?
  11. Hello, thanks for the message. Did you have your surgery yet? Who is your surgeon?
