    post op rash

Hi, call and/or go sit in your doc's office until he sees you, or go to a local clinic or your own doc. You may be allergic to the glue/steristrip or whatever is used on the incisions - or it may be more than that. Please take care of this...post-surgery is bad enuf with the pain and liquids only and hunger and etc without sitting around itching - your doc needs to pay attention to this.
  5. HI,

I wrote a message to you the other day, but guess I didn't know how to send it. I am excited to have someone my own age to "talk:" to. This is an amazing journey. I am in NC visiting my sister and had dinner at my nieces last night. I did really well, but the band is so restrictive that I really have not choice. I have lost 30 lbs from my highest weight, which is so exciting.

My son lives in Thousand Oaks, Ventura County and I am visiting there the end of Aug.

Keep going. It sounds like you have a huge amount of support. And we know it will be worth it in the end.

My email is luckyladybuggw@optonline.net. That might be easier to "talk". I am in communication with one other woman who is probably in her 40's and it is great to have this support.

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Ginny

    I live in NJ!

    Little Nervous

Hi, I understand completely. I got banded 8/26/10 and I have had 2 prior knee replacement surgeries and I was WAY more nervous with this - something about them fiddling around my insides where my heart and all vital organs are located may have something to do with it... but, I did lots of research first, got my insurance ok, got referred by my doc to a local bariatric surgeon with years of experience doing only bariatric surgery, did the pre-op liquids, went to the information seminars, drove my friends and husband nuts with my anxiety, and went for it. I am in counseling now and this psychologist also markets cd's for pre-surgery relaxation; meditation/relaxation exercises are extremely helpful, which of course I didn't think of till afterward. Too scattered mentally. We have all been where you are. It's scary but worth it. Hope this helps, take care...
  7. Hi, Costco has liquid chocolate protein drinks (brand is Premium) - don't know what liquids you're doing but this is pretty filling. Whatever you do, don't eat without blending to liquid - 8 days after surgery I was starving and very constipated. I ate some cooked vegies, chewed them to death etc, but ate too much - the next day something sort of 'popped' around my port and I'm getting an ultrasound Friday. I'm scared to eat anything right now. I was blending fruit in with the liquid shakes but was told the sugar in the fruit will increase the hunger so I stopped that - am just doing liquids and broth. I made chicken soup and blended it to liquid and drank it, it helps... hang in there, eat jello or ? your doc says is okay, but do not get full - your tummy has to stretch back out on its own time, not from being full. You will cause yourself problems....been there, done that.
  8. Hi, I had trouble too. Click on the FAQ item on the top header, click on 'general forum usage', and 'ticker setup' is the last one on the list, just follow her instructions. I did mine yesterday(I thought)but it didn't start showing up here until today, but it's here now...very confusing...
  9. Hi, had my band surgery on 8/26, was doing my liquids, feeling really good, really hungry, but really constipated. Overate some veggies(did the chewing etc) but ate too much 10 days after surgery. Next day, felt a couple 'pops' around area of the port. Still sore, doesn't seem to be improving, doc not worried but I am. He said they do ultrasound before my first fill in a month and not to worry if sutures popped - some docs don't even suture the port in place? Any similar issues out there? He said theport is about a foot from the actual band and I have no trouble with liquids going down so the band is probably ok - but port area is really tender, sore, some bruising...I'm thinking of pushing for unltrasound now...

    vitamins and meds

Hi, my doc gave me(sold, actually) me pre-surgery vitamins that were just swallowable, and post-surgery vits that are chewable (and awful). Any 'normal' meds you take that are small and/or crushable you should be ok with, like my blood pressure meds are really tiny and I am doing those fine. I will be looking for substitutes for the 'big' pills like glucosamine etc... it's on my radar for the next weekor so, I'm just 1 week post-surgery. But yes you should lbe able to take pills again, depending on size and/or crushability.
  11. Hi to all, I had my lapband surgery a week ago and am doing much better. Sleeping just fine, got cabin fever and have been out and about since last tuesday, but did too much- got really tired and sore again. I have port pain, some intestinal issues, am still doing ibuprofen 600 mgs daily, see the doc today for 1-week followup. Am still on liquids for another week. These shakes from the doc's office are drinkable only if over-diluted and blended with fresh fruit... really bad. I am so craving real food... but the good news is I'm down 16+ lbs in 3 weeks, so the 2-weeks pre-surgery liquids plus this last week have seen lotsa weight lost!!! Good kick-start, would be so sweet if it continued but I know it will slow down - but I want REAL FOOD! I'm even craving fish, which I don't even like... anyway just checking in, to all who may be interested, good book I've used a LOT is 'Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band' by Robert W. Sewell. Great resource, lots of detail. To those looking at upcoming surgery, stay positive. It's scary, but for the first time in a gazillion years I feel hopeful about my future health and ability to live the life I want....hopefully you will too....
  12. If I were you I would definitely stay. No doubt. Wish I could have....it's safer and much easier for you. Best wishes, I'm sure all will go well...

    Surgery tomorrow

Hi tesa8283, I can't believe you have to go back to work already, I can barely go walking around my house and I had surgery 8/26 - good luck and hang in there!
  14. Hi all, I got banded Thursday, this is Sunday and I am still in pain but sort of on the mend. Talked to the doc Friday p.m. and switched off the codeine/tylenol liquid that seemed to rip my stomach up, to 400 mg ibuprofen every 4 hours - really helped. Only did 3 shakes yesterday. It took me 1+ hours to get an 8-oz shake down so I basically ran out of time. But I am able to sleep lying down in my own bed and am catching up on my rest. Yeah!!! I'm down around 14 lbs since I started the 2-week presurgery liquids. Wonder why. I got my first shake down this a.m. in 30 minutes, but it seems to get worse as the day goes on. I don't know what size the band is or if it's filled at all - I guess some docs do fill it when they install it, will find out Friday at my follow-up appt. Port incision hurts, but the rest seem fine. But when I drink, I get stomach pains - so I try to walk around a lot, like every hour get up and walk for 5 minutes, really helps. Thanks so much for all of your replies and tips... just to have someone to discuss this with is really a relief instead of just sitting here worrying and wondering if I have made a horrible mistake...and if I will ever be able to eat without hurting again - talk about reinforcement to lose weight!!! But it's not what I had in mind - obviously...take care all, will keep you posted.
  15. Hi Ravey, I'm 64, also female, so I'm way more of an oldster than you and I wish I had done this years ago. Just banded 2 days ago, am in pain and worried. My start weight was around 254, lost 12 lbs pre-surgery, up 1 since. Hope all is well with you, welcome...
