My name is Kathleen. I am 40 years old five feet 8 inches, and weigh 240 pounds. I am not one of those people who have been obese all my life. I had my first daughter at 22, and second daughter at 26. I was about 30 lbs over weight when I got pregnant with my second daughter so at full term I went over 200 lbs. I worked hard after I had her doing karate, and kickboxing which I loved so I got back down to a normal healthy weight for my height about 145. After about a year of doing the karate, and kickboxing I started a very high stress job. I stopped working out due to time, and started putting on the weight. After about 3 years of continually gaining weight I went up to about 210 pounds.I noticed my feet start to hurt so I went into see my Dr. who diagnosed me with Plantar Fatitis. I could barely walk so I tried all types of treatment from painful steroid shots, to having custom orthotics made. Finally my Dr. put me on a anti-depressant due to I was depressed from the pain. Within weeks I noticed the pain in my feet was almost gone from the medication. Six months later after gaining about 40 more pounds I went into a new Dr. because we had moved to discuss my weight. He told me the medication that I was on has the side affect's of weight gain. So we tried 4 more types of anti-depressants that would help with weight, and my foot pain non helped. During this time I was still seeing my foot Dr. who was treating my foot condition. For about 5 years now I have weighed between 220 and 260. I cant stand up for more than 10 minutes without being in a great deal of pain. I cant walk, run, and I cant work out. I am seriously considering having the lap band done so I can lose about 100lbs which would help my feet tremendously. I know that I could lose the weight traditionally with eating right, and exercise but I still get really depressed from the pain I am in so I would really like to have the surgery to help me lose the weight for my feet which would help tremendously. I could get back to the active life I use to lead, and enjoy activities with my family.
