    Just starting the process

Woo Hoo! I too am just in the begining stages of this journey. I have to wait until the 26th to see my PCM for a referral to a surgeon, but I already went to a seminar and got lots of info. Hoping for a surgery date in October sometime.

    My journey is beginning :)

You might call your insurance company before then and find out what they require. Some insurance companies require different testing and such than others before surgery. If your primary doctor could send you for as many of the tests before you see the surgeon, you'd be ahead of the game. Some surgeon's require you to see a doctor they refer to though, so once you find out what your insurance company requires for testing call the surgeon's office and see if they require you to see anyone specific, if they do, find out who and see if your primary doc will refer you to them. That way you can go into the surgeon's office after the seminar ready to go. Since you aren't going to the seminar until September 8th and your Mother's surgery is probably gonna be at the end of September, you will be quite crunched for time there. The testing is what really seems to hold the process up.

    Maintaining BMI Presurgery

Ask your doctor. I just went to a seminar on Wednesday night and they said they use your BMI from your very first appointment with them. They said that once they had that, if you wanted/could lose 40lbs before surgery, go for it. They said it didn't matter as long as they had that first BMI that qualified you. (I was sitting there thinking, well, heck, if I could lose 40lbs, I probably wouldn't be here for this seminar. lol!!!) But yeah, ask your surgeon.

Hi I am new to all this

Hi there! Welcome! Have you been to a seminar? If not, I recommend finding one and going. I just went last night and got alot of info. They even showed video's of both the RNY and Lap-Band procedure. The Lap-Band was by far, the more pleasant to watch. lol.
  7. Yay!! That's great! I go to my seminar tomorrow night!
  8. Me too! We got married by a JP in his living room and I wore jeans and a sweater. Our plan was to renew on our 1 year anniversary with a big wedding. January will mark 8 years and I've yet to wear a wedding gown. So, we may possibly do it at 10 years now. Or 15, we are not 100% sure as to when. But 10 seems quite possible now. lol! And we'll have our kids in the wedding too, which I think is gonna be awesome. lol! Anyway, other things I look forward to, the main thing, having a family picture taken. We've been married almost 8 years and have had 3 kids, I have NO pictures of me when I was pregnant with any of them. I have no pictures of me holding baby minutes after they were born like most my friends do. I have no picture memories of me with them from birth to what age they are now. That's something I will never get back, but at least I can have them in the future soon. Not having a 2 in front of my dress size. I'd love to be a single digit size, but I know that will take some time. I'd love to just have a 1 in front. I'd love to have a 1 in front of my weight as well. Haven't seen that since I was in 6th grade. That's a loooong time ago now. lol! Having energy to do things with my kids. Taking them on amusment park rides. My legs not touching. Wearing a dress. I own 1 from a wedding 2 years ago and I wore it only that one time so far. I'd like to fit back into it if only for a week and then I'd love for it to be too big. lol! My list could go on, but those are the big ones I have.

    Newbie

Hi there everyone! My name is Karen, I'm 30 (closer to 31) and I'm just getting started with my lap-band® journey. A little about me, I have 3 children, 2 girls and a boy. Ages 5, 3 1/2 and 7 months. My husband is in the Navy and we are currently stationed in Rhode Island. I am going to a WLS seminar on Wednesday. The doctors require it before even calling for an appointment. I have no idea if I will even be seeing either of the doctors doing the seminar but I figured I'd go to it just in case so I don't have to wait for it to roll around in September as it's only given once a month and my appointment with my PCM is on the 26th of this month. I need a referral from her before I can make an appointment with a surgeon. So, I have to wait and see who my insurance covers here for WLS. And even if it's not one of the doctors giving the seminar, at least I get some info. lol! I look forward to getting to know you all and joining you all on this journey.
