That's true. I'm not on solid food yet, but I'm guessing i'll just eat what I can and take home or toss the rest. A lot of places have "healthy" options these days, I know in California they started forcing chain restaurants to put calories on the menu, which in turn is forcing some healthier options. Or I guess regardless if I'm having a 1/3 of my entree, or 1 piece of pizza that's still FAR FAR FAR less than i was eating before, I'm sure the calories are fine.

Did they forget to put in the BAND
HeatherinCA replied to SCRUPPLES's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same Pam, I'm not really hungry, if I pay attention to my body, I don't really feel restriction, but I'm not eating tons, my 1/2 of pureed food is fine, I don;t feel deprived.. I'm just restricting myself, but I hate knowing that I could eat more and probably not get sick. -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?
HeatherinCA replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, it could be unrelated, everyone is getting sick these days. Or food poisoning from something you ate? Yea, I'm not really hungry at all. I'm feeling better about food not that I'm on purees. But before, my appetite was gone, probably because I didn't want any of the things I could "drink." Hmm, my stomach gurgles and growls but it's not the hunger kind, it just makes weird noises haha. Not so much in the past few days though. Be careful if you aren't going to stick to the diet! You have your whole life to eat real food, what's 2 weeks of mush while you are healing. It's not even bad, having chili for dinner instead of a chicken breast? I could careless, it still tastes good. -
Haha yea, I can only drink the fancy blended stuff with chocolate and sugar which is bad for you anyways. Ah I wanna go to Seattle again, totally my favorite place to visit

I started to 4 or 5 days after. I guess as long as there isn't pain! Took me a few days to be able to roll over easily -

I had Turkey Chili last night with a little bit of light sour cream! It was good. I didn't need to puree it, it went down fine. It's pretty mushy anyways. Today I had tuna, that went down well too. Glad nothing is making me sick! Whey: Yea, I'm scared I'm gonna like eat too much. My book says 1/4 cup, but that isn't filling me up at all, I've added slightly more and that does the trick and I'm satisfied, But I'm scared I'm gonna go overboard and eat too much. I'm not hungry though which is good. Amyloveslou: Try egg salad maybe, it's easier to eat a little bit at a time, went down good for me and it has some flavor. -
My book says alcohol causes gastric irritation and can cause liver damage. During periods of rapid weight loss the liver becomes especially vulnerable to toxins such as alcohol. Also says they recommend complete abstinence from alcohol for six months after surgery and avoid frequent consumption thereafter.

Nothing Stays Down
HeatherinCA replied to ChefGabbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh no I'm sorry. Call your doctor? Are you eating it all really slowly.. and only like 1/4 cup of it? But still I'd call your doctor -
Same w/ the diet coke here too. But I gave it up about 6 weeks ago. My books says: "caffeine is an appetite stimulant which is detrimental to initial weight loss and long-term weight control. caffeine is also a diuretic which can cause dehydration." hmm.

Goin' on a cruise
HeatherinCA replied to ChopswyfT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I could do that!! I'm going on a big vacation next week and we always always eat tons of amazing fancy food when we go there, it's gonna be weird, but I'll just focus on doing other things! Sure save a lot of money too -
You (or your insurance company) just spend $15,000 to have surgery!! You wanna ruin it with mashed potatoes? I would think now would be the easiest to be committed to sticking to your diet. Like she said I doubt damage, but you REALLY don't wanna risk puking right? That would hurt so bad, and could damage the band placement.

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
HeatherinCA replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yea, said 72 hours for me too. I did one the next day.. but carefully and I covered in saran warp lol not sure it helped much, but I was so sore I wanted the hot water and I'm sure I was pretty smelly! Then I took a full one the day after that. My strips looked fine -
Kids Meals
HeatherinCA replied to gotmyeyeontheprize's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Haven't done it yet, but I would tell them why you need to order off it. More than likely I'd just find something off the appetizers that I wanted or just eat a few bites of a normal meal and take it home. Aren't kids meals usually lame too.. it's usually bland food like macaroni and cheese or grilled cheese, not adult food in small portions. i'd rather eat good flavorful food. -
It's more about nutrition, when you only eat such tiny amounts you want to get in proper nutrition.

yay! I'm doing well too. My new watch I got for hanukkah is spinning around, I gotta go get a link taken out, and my jeans fit better already

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
HeatherinCA replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Purple; thanks! yea, I'm not too concerned, but for my family it was just always a big food fest, we'd go have those $300 steak dinners and all that, but I'm content with what I can have. More gambling for me Lucky; I'm not either. Maybe a pound. Probably just because we are recovering? I have no idea haha. Also they put a ton of liquid in you at the hospital via IV... and the liquid diet isn't to lose weight, it was to make your liver shrink, then now it's to recover so your band sets in place or something. Mine said shower 48 hours after, but I did it the next day, I just wrapped in saran wrap hahaha, then I took a real one the day after. Dermabond? I have those ugly Steristrips over mine. I just ate my 1/4 cup of oatmeal (first puree meal). Yea, not exactly full, probalby another 1/4 cup I'd be stuffed. But I'm not hungry either. I don't want to cheat. -
6 weeks out I think you could have the pretzels or peanuts right? Peanuts are a good source of protein! Or do Water, or bring Protein powder? Cause you can't get the shake through security.

Haha, I never liked alcohol much, I guess I'm weird. But that is almost an entire days worth of calories... that's nuts!

Pam, the book I have from my doctor has those guidelines, but it's for Gastric Bypass. Interesting. I think Pasta because it has no nutrients or anything of value. Moist bread expands in your stomach because of the gluten and you likely won't be able to keep it down. I guess to avoid problems, also after eating protein, then veggies, probably not much room left for carbs. I bought all my food for my purees tomorrow I'm so excited!! Fresh & Easy has some good premade things, they have small containers of egg salad and several flavors of hummus, makes things easier. -
A big margarita has 700 calories, a Pina Colada 644 ... just a FYI ahah, not worth the calories!! and if you aren't eating the same time as you are drinking won't you be the cheapest drunk ever?

Goin' on a cruise
HeatherinCA replied to ChopswyfT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just eat as you normally would with your band. Don't over do it, it's a lifestyle change, can't take a break from it haha. You are getting the band to eat differently.. not to revert back to your old ways. Also if i'm not mistaken (i just had my surgery this week and I don't have a fill yet) I still can't eat much at all and I'm not hungry, no way I could shove a regular amount of food down there and not puke. Besides you'll be full with your little amount of food so what does it matter? Just do other things! Do activities and don't spend time in the buffets. I've been on several cruises you DON'T have to ever set foot in a buffet. The dinners and such are regular meals, it's not giant portions or anything like that. It's all pretty average, and the food isn't that spectacular you aren't missing anything. -

Ooh that sounds good, I'm gonna get some hummus, try maybe chicken or egg salad, refried beans with salsa, and maybe some oatmeal. I'm getting a little concerned about my vacation to Vegas next week! but this menu is far broader than I had originally thought it was, I should be ok, I'll just bring a bunch of protein shakes with me, also maybe sneak out of dinner and go gambling instead so my parents can enjoy their real food. Wow that is quick, I mean I guess it doesn't really matter, I hate the liquid but i like using this time to adjust to not eating, and forgetting about food and I'm much more grateful to get to eat something real tomorrow! My full regimen is 25 days, Liquid for 5, Puree for 10, then Soft Foods for 10 then I can eat normal food. Well besides the liquid it is essentially real food which is good, I mean not everything obviously but it's still fairly normal.
