What can you eat?
HeatherinCA replied to PackersFan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That seems too tight to me, if you can't eat solid protein... The fills just control your hunger. It's not supposed to restrict you from eating food. -
Just had banding in on 25th and new to this site

Yep heating pad is great, and take your pain meds and when you stand up and sit down take a deep breath, helps the pain. -
And now the failing begins?
HeatherinCA replied to mattie7632's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The big question is are you hungry all the time? Obviously I still want to eat and I have an appetite, but my hunger level is very low, so I don't think about eating as much... it's still a struggle and I have to decide what goes in. I think restriction is a myth, it's never gonna stop you from eating. Or you'll be so filled that you can't eat and you get sick all the time. I don't think it's supposed to FEEL like you have a band. The band controls my hunger, that is it's job, if I was on a 1200 calorie diet i'd be starving all the time, now I'm not. This makes it a lot easier for me. Sucks to have to make decisions but thats what skinny people do, they CHOOSE healthy foods and small portions. That's why they are skinny. It's a lifestyle, you gotta learn how to work with it. -
I eat pizza, don't worry it's not gone forever haha! You can't have too much of it though

**No first fill for half of a year!!!
HeatherinCA replied to frenchiekisses's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like they might be testing your will power. The fills just help with your hunger, but it doesn't stop you from eating, and you should be still losing 1-2lbs a week without one if you follow all the rules. They want to make sure you are committed to this. I know everyone has their own opinions on fills, and their purpose and all that, but maybe it's to prevent you from having 12 fills, and wondering why you still over eat.. maybe he wants you to understand their purpose. But it still seems a little strange he's holding it hostage... but if you can't lose weight with diet and exercise then you are screwed even with a band. -
wat to take for headache
HeatherinCA replied to TylerAshton567's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They sell adult liquid tylenol that is what I take. -
1-2lbs a week is normal, safe, weight loss that is what you should expect from now on. also you are still healing so don't worry. The 18lbs is only because you aren't eating! It's to help you heal, weight loss is kind of an unintentional side effect.
-
Yea it's just healing for the first month. Don't worry and 8 pounds in 3 weeks is good! you've lost over 2lbs a week. You can't expect to ever lose more than that... I lose 1-2lbs a week. Occasionally it's more, but 1-2lbs is the norm. You really gotta watch your calories! Make sure everything is going right, if you don't lose any, look back on your week and figure out why and change it.

Well, it is all about learning to work with your new lifestyle. Watching your calories and exercising. The bands job is to control your hunger, it does help you eat less BUT, it doesn't stop you from eating, I could eat enough food to gain weight if I chose to. Now, for me, my band is 1/2 full of Fluid, I can eat anything I want (but I'm not hungry so the band is working), no food gets stuck, I don't particularly go crazy with chewing my food. It's not the case for everyone though. But it shouldn't be happening frequently. Some people elect to get a lot of fills, because they want to physically not be able to over eat. Which isn't healthy. You'd only get acid reflux and all that if you are too tight and you end up puking all the time.. The only problem I really have is with going to the bathroom, which is due to the lack of food, and the amount of Fiber we consume. I would be a little concerned getting it and only needing to lose 60 pounds. It's a big surgery, and a lot of recovery and work, and for me, I'm about 2.5 months out and I've lost 40lbs already. Seems like it might be too much work to only lose 60 pounds. I have about 130 or so pounds to lose, it was to the point I couldn't lose those pounds myself dieting and exercising. I needed a little bit of a push. The band is kind of a built in tool, built in motivation. I can't really give up because it's always gonna be inside me.

I don't think it's THAT crazy...I do all the work on my own, the band just keeps me from being hungry. You should be able to stick to the rules and lose 1/2lb a week. Are you sure he's not just scaring you into doing the work and following the rules? Are you ravenously hungry right now? -

First Fill....at Radiologist
HeatherinCA replied to Appmax54321's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was like that, well my doctor has the machine in his office. I got 5.5ccs on my first fill, and I don't feel i need anymore at least for now. Just remember it takes a few weeks for the fills to work properly so don't get discouraged immediately. But yea, I have almost zero hunger. -
Ugh I did it again!
HeatherinCA replied to Pinkygirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Never been stuck luckily! Are you too full maybe? If it's happening all the time.. -
When after a fill do you feel the most restriction?
HeatherinCA replied to size10again's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt weird after i got my fill for like 2 days (like extra full..), but yea it got tighter after a few weeks i noticed. But I haven't had any stuck episodes. But I notice the hunger decreased a lot. Hmm can you push your appointment off them? Or just be careful on your trip, could give you more motivation to not eat bad things. i know I get into trouble on vacation. -

HeatherinCA replied to size10again's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 5.5ccs in mine. I feel good... it's not stopping me from eating anything, but my hunger is essentially no existent. Joan, how often do you get hungry? I can go a good 4 or 5 hours without eating... i can physically eat more, I just restrain from doing so.. I think it'll always be that way. -
How do you get a perfect amount of fill??
HeatherinCA replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Start paying attention to your body, are you really hungry? Or is it mental. If you are already having stuck issues I doubt you need more fluid... I think what you are eating sounds about right. What your doctor says doesn't sound right. It'll never physically stop you from eating more than 900 calories. I could stop at 900 calories and not be hungry, but I wouldn't be satisfied. So I eat closer to what you said you are eating. I don't think that is unreasonable. -
Need to pay more attention at the grocery store!
HeatherinCA replied to honk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just check the sugar content on it. Yea, my book says no fruit yogurt for that reason. But I'm sure it's not THAT bad. -
when does it all begin????
HeatherinCA replied to cinderella24442@netzero.co's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
3 months till a fill? Usually you get it after 6 weeks. Don't eat the same things! You need to eat healthy, 1200 calories a day, 60 grams of Protein. Or you won't lose any weight, fill or no fill. All the fills do is control your hunger. -
Beverly Hills Surgical Center
HeatherinCA replied to skinnybitchtobe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Let's just say I would have my surgery at a hospital. My insurance wouldn't do it anywhere but a center of excellence anyways. If anything goes wrong I'd like to know I'm at a hospital where they can do all they can to fix me, and make sure I'm healthy during recovery. It seems to me from reading the article the complaint is mostly about the surgery center and how it wasn't professional, not the Doctor... This whole process with ANY surgeon is weird. They are are in it for money, most likely. It's more like plastic surgery, than like getting something done at your doctors office. You want to make sure you feel comfortable, that I would say is #1. -
Banded on Dec 29th, 2010
HeatherinCA replied to collins33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
2 pounds a week is normal! 1-2lbs... I know I had this impression it was gonna be super fast, but this is the reality! I was banded 12/13, and I've lost about 25 since surgery. Remember you gotta burn 3,500 calories to lose a pound, it's not realistic to expect to burn 10,000-20,000 a week!! (unless you weigh like 500lbs and just walking to the door burns a lot of calories) That is why we lose 1-2 pounds. The fills are to make you less hungry in between meals. Are you less hungry? How big was your fill? -
EXERCISE-someone be real with me!
HeatherinCA replied to MoTown22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That should be a good amount. Well, 30 minutes is to stay healthy, to lose fat, you gotta do more.. it depends on the person. I do about what you do. I find when I work my ass off at the gym for over an hour 5 days a week, I don't lose anymore weight then when I do my simple walking video. But the toning can help saggy skin. Do what is manageable to you. Also depends what you eat, it's easier to eat less calories than to burn off the calories you over ate. -
Hi guys, I'm in Hollywood. I haven't done a support group.. i guess this place is my support group of sorts @ChrissyM Well, for me it's good so far, you just have to be committed to it. You still have to watch what you eat and exercise.. don't be under the impression it'll do it for you. It makes things a little easier since you don't have a lot of hunger.
-
Well, a fill would be required if you are hungry all the time.. other wise maybe you don't need it. Before the fill it was just healing mostly, and you were on mushies and liquids thats why you lost more weight. Yea just make little tweeks and see if that helps. I'm more liberal on my diet than a lot of people. I want it to be realistic. I eat a good 1200 calories a day. I'm not one of those people that eats like 1 egg for Breakfast, and 1/4 cup of tuna for lunch.. and I'm losing 1-3lbs a week. It's all complicated! One week I go balls to the wall 5 days a week, INTENSE exercise and I lose a pound. Which I HATE, and makes it feel so useless when you don't lose much, and spend 6 hours in the gym. The next week, I do some walking, or an exercise video for maybe 4 days, not nearly as intense and I lose a pound or two. I'm trying to figure out the right balance. The body is just fickle I guess.

I don't generally eat em now, too many calories, unless you are replacing a meal. I used to like the Balance bars

Learned a Lesson Today
HeatherinCA replied to B-52's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still don't feel anything honestly! I mean I'm never hungry, which means it's working, but I can get any food down, and I don't particularly eat teeny tiny bites. Yea maybe you are still healing a little bit? I know for me it was 28 days before solids. Try it again in a few weeks. I was really careful when I started solids, I didn't have bread, or noodles, or things I heard get stuck.
