My name is Melissa. I live in San Antonio, Texas. I'm originally from Louisiana. I haven't been overweight my whole life. I started putting on weight after i had my first daughter 17 years ago. After i had her i lost the weight but then my husband had to go overseas(he was in the military) & i got depressed & put all the weight back on & then some & some & some. After he got back i started losing it then he had to go overseas again & once again i put the weight back on & then some & then some again. Finally he got back & got out of the military, meanwhile i was still overweight. When he got out we moved back to San Antonio & a couple months later i got pregnant again. I actually ended up losing weight while i was pregnant & my doctor was very worried about me and the baby. So of course i put on a good bit of weight. I had my second daughter & the weight just never came off. It just kept getting worse & worse. That's how it's been since then. I've just been so overweight for 17 years. I finally went to my doctor in October 2009. I hadn't gone to the doctor in over 6 years before that. I was too scared what they would tell me & also because i had an experience before with a doctor being ugly, mean & extremely negative toward me for being "Obese" & wanting some extra help with some weight loss pills. Anyway i went to my doctor in October, who by the way is the most awesome doctor anywhere! My mother in law even started seeing her because i told her how wonderful & caring she was! She ended up telling me that i have Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol & Depression! I am currently taking 8 pills. Some are double for my Diabetes & High Blood Pressure. She mentioned in October about Weight Loss Surgery but i said no cuz i was embarassed that someone even mentioned that to me! So 3 months ago I decided to do it. I talked to my doctor & she was so excited for me. She hugged me! So i went through all the appointments necessary & yall know what all you have to go through. The doctor performing the surgery gave me the list that my insurance was requiring from me to do before approving the surgery. I thought i would never be able to do it cuz it seemed like it was gonna take so long. I told myself, Hello, look how long you've gone without doing anything & you're gonna complain about a couple months of getting the approval needed! My husband was my rock through everything! He got my butt into gear & made sure i didnt give up on anything. He made sure i was going to the appointments to get everything rolling. Finally the doctor submitted everything to the insurance when we had everything together. I was so scared. I was calling them everyday for two weeks to see if it was approved. Finally on the Friday, two weeks from the day it was submitted it was approved! I was so excited i started crying to the insurance rep on the phone & thanking her profusely! Then i called my husband at work first, he is the reason i say all this happened for me! He's my rock, my life! My girls are extremely supportive of me too. I've told both our families & everyone is excited for me. They all want me to be around for years! It's all gonna be okay now. I'm gonna be healthy & be able to do the things i havent been able to do for a  long time or that i never have been able to do before! This is the start of my journey....welcome to it!!
