I took my first Zumba class on Monday 3 weeks post op and I loved it. It was a good mix of different weights and all were running to their water in between songs. I really surprised myself and did much better than I thought I would. It was so much fun and I can't wait til I go back tomorrow. I could do most moves after much trial and error but I didn't do any of the jumping, I just hopped onto my tip toes or walked it depending on what it was. I am too big, out of shape, and recent surgery, so I just modified the jumping and there wasnt too much jumping. The instructor briefly went over the dance moves before each song. It was great and I know if I had been by myself doing any type of exercise, I would have not done an entire hour. I would have not pushed myself like I did in the class.

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
tntbelt replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on the 17th and and I am hungrier and hungrier and am eating larger portions now too. I don't go to the doctor til the 19th and I HOPE to get a fill and I hope it helps. I am not eating anywhere near what I did before and eating much healthier but I don't want to fall back into bad habits with being hungry all the time. It scares me because I really want this to work but I feel like there is no restriction and I could easily eat the portions and foods I did before. -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?

Heather: I was scared to try it too... I have been pretty inactive for over 5 years and get winded just walking up and down the steps in our house. It was hard, If I had been by myself I probably would have given up 20 minutes into it. I am just not comfortable with going to a gym yet and wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this one. I was afraid I would be the big girl with no rhythm about to have a hard attack in the back but there were women of all sizes and they were all exhausted and running to their water in between songs. I felt comfortable and did much better than I thought I would. It was so much fun and I can't wait to go back -

What is everyone doing for exercise??? I went to a Zumba class tonight and absolutely loved it!! I didn't know if I would be able to make it through the class but I did better than I thought I would. I am thinking about starting the couch to 5k too but I don't have a treadmill but might try to start on the gazelle until spring. -

I am eating a lot of protein and drinking lots of water and satisfied with my small meals but ready to eat again in 2-3 hours... It's frustrating because I don't want to mess this up, I think I am ready for a fill My appt isn't til the 19th so I am going to have to hang tough for a little bit longer. -
Dr Oldham is awesome!!! He banded me and did a hiatal hernia repair in Elizabethtown on Dec 17th. I couldn't be happier in choosing him as my surgeon.

At my first intake appt they went over everything that would be needed for surgery which included a referral form for my primary care physician to fill out stating they recommended the surgery.

Banded December 17th--So Uncomfortable
tntbelt replied to ready-4-change's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded on the 17th as well and although I haven't had too many issues with gas pains, I have been more sore and uncomfortable than I ever expected. I hate taking pain meds and even after 2 c sections I only took a few and none after say 2 days. I am still taking my liquid pain meds with this surgery. It makes it much more manageable and helps me to sleep at night. Hang in there and if you don't have any type of pain elixir I would recommend asking your doc for some. -
Did they weigh you on surgery day?
tntbelt replied to cduval04's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was weighed in my clothes, then watched a video, then gowned up and went to surgery. -
It should be fine I am allowed to have mashed potatoes at a week. I am looking forward to them. I know the carbs are bad but the way I was told the first month is all about healing. You are not going to ruin your band or it wouldn't be ok with my doctor. Don't over indulge and remember to stop when full.

On q pump is a disposable type pain pump they sent me home with. All of my incisions are covered with dermabond and I can shower without having to do anything else. I have no gauze or anything else on mine. What is yours covered with? -

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
tntbelt replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded yesterday the 17th. I had a hiatal hernia repair also and my chest had been sore for a few days before surgery due to the coughing from the reflux. In oct when they found hernia I was told it was a small hernia. When it was repaired it was apparently quite large. When I was woke from anesthesia I had so much pain in my chest and felt as though I couldn't breathe but she kept telling me my oxygen was fine but it hurt. It doesn't hurt today and my stomach is sore but not too terrible. I have had very little gas pain thankfully. It is so strange how all docs have different post op diets. In my book from the doctors office there is a schedule of foods that you slowly add. I will share my schedule and hope it helps.. Days 1-2 clear liquids (which is day of pre-op and day of surgery) Days 3-4 add full liquids v-8 juice thin soups and yogurt days 5-6 add sf applesauce pudding smoothies and bananas day 7 add mashed potatoes, cream of wheat (no grits, rice pasta or peanut butter) well cooked veggies, vegetable soup and legumes days 8-10 add sweet potato, oatmeal, soft boiled eggs, low fat cottage cheese and no sugar added canned pears days 11-12 slowly add fresh fruits. continue protein supplement drink 64 oz of sf no calorie fluid like crystal light, propel, or water. Day 14 slowly add baked fish, tuna, whole grain toast or crackers, small amount of brown rice, whole grain pasta, vegetables (except asparagus, celery, corn) and whole grain cereal granola bars, protein bars. decrease protein shake to 1 or less daily day 16-18 (approx 3-4wks) try baked turkey and chicken at 8 wks and after you can move to lean ground beef, gradually add roast beef, ham and turkey sausage. Steak should be last. -
I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I myself have never had cancer but I can somewhat relate to the shock and fear you are going through and I know what an emotional roller coaster this journey will be for you. My son was diagnosed with Leukemia at 2.5 years old and has been going through treatment for almost 3 years. You are a strong woman, stay positive and surround yourself with your family and friends!!

I start the PreOp diet today!
tntbelt replied to Swan56's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck, you can do it. Take it day by day and don't forget your end goal. The hardest part for me has been preparing meals for the family. I have 2 five year olds, 17 year old, and the hubby to prepare for. My husband does what he can while he's here but he works a lot of overtime. But oh the smells drive my stomach crazy Other than that I have been surprised at how well the shakes keep the hunger away. -
Lexington, Kentucky Doctors?
tntbelt replied to HezTri-s's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am going to be banded by John Oldham's office in Elizabethtown KY on Dec 17th. I believe him and Derek Weiss have offices in Louisville and Lexington also. I have only met Dr Oldham so far at the seminar and I loved him. He seemed like a genuine down to earth guy and was eager to help and answer questions. His office staff has been wonderful and prompt in returning messages and getting things scheduled. I am only in the beginning with them but so far so good... Good luck to you and I hope you find what you need.... -
Congratulations on the weight loss and the surgery. I am on day 2 of my pre op and I cant wait to be banded. The diet is hard but I am hoping its a great jump start to my weight loss journey too.

My surgery is scheduled
tntbelt replied to LeesMimi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your date.. Mine is Dec 17th and I am on day 2 of pre op and it is rough. I actually went to bed before 9 last night and I haven't done that in years!!! But late night snacking is a huge problem for me. I guess at least I will be well rested before surgery
