I had my first fill on 8-7-2010, but so far I feel very little restriction. I read that it sometimes takes two weeks to feel restriction after a fill. Why would it take so long?

I had my surgery on June 25, 2010 and I have lost 23 lbs. That computes to about 1.6 lbs a week. That is nothing to sneeze at! Maybe we are like the Turtle. Slow and sure, but we will win the race in the end. Good Luck!!

I am going for my 3rd fill this coming Saturday, but something wonderful has happened. I am starting to feel some restriction! I had my second fill 3 weeks ago (total of 3.6 cc's) and I just started feeling restriction from that fill this week. Fills works in strange and wonderous ways. LoL Seriously I am happy, but I am still going for my 3rd fill because it is just light restriction. Thanks for your input.

I was just wondering if anyone else out there has been made to feel guilty if you have a lower BMI starting out. I had a BMI of 34 with 2 co-morbidities, but my family Doctor acted like I was out of my mind when I shared my plans to be banded. He actually yelled at me. I had to get a release from him because my EKG was abnormal. (Everything turned out fine) He finally signed off, but he said he was making a note in my file that he didn't think that banding was necessary. Mine was self pay so his objections didn't stop the procedure. I have lost 17 lbs so far and am looking forward to my second fill soon. (Hope to start feeling some restriction) Let me know if anyone else had received any flack from their Primary Care Doctor.

Made to feel guilty by Family Doctor?
PianoLady replied to PianoLady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Good luck with your Surgery. My BMI was the same as yours when I had my surgery on June 25. I have since lost 20 lbs and am at 30. You are lucky to have such a support Dr. I'll have to say that my Family Doctor seems to be changing his tune somewhat since he has seen my results. (But I won't hold my breath for an apology. LOL) Just hang in there. October 13 will be here before you know it. -
Women, were you told you'd become more fertile?

My daughter had problems conceiving, but when she lost weight and started exercising she became pregnant. This happened twice and I have two beautiful grandchildren as a result. -
How long are you taking off?
PianoLady replied to va_viv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, I was banded on a Friday and went to work on the following Tuesday, but I had a desk job as well. I made it just fine. -
how soon after surgery did you have a fill
PianoLady replied to kellyodoran's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first fill did help a little. I have noticed that my appetite is not as voracious as it used to be. I don't have the urge to snack between meals as much as I used to. But I can still eat several cups at each meal and I think you are supposed to eat the equivalent of 1/2 cup after you get restriction. -

I had my first fill 6 weeks post op as well, but it didn't provide much relief (restriction). My second fill is scheduled for next week and I have my fingers crossed. Good luck, we all know what you are going through! -
Made to feel guilty by Family Doctor?
PianoLady replied to PianoLady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My Doctor also made the comment that it was his experience that people that had weight loss surgery always found a way to "eat around" the surgery and sabotage themselves. I can't wait to reach my goal to prove him wrong. Thanks again for all the input. -

Thanks for the advice. I especially appreciate your last comments. I never have thought about it like that. I think I will be looking for another Dr. Thanks! -
Made to feel guilty by Family Doctor?

Thanks for the response Llyra. I must be nice to have such a supportive Doctor. Maybe it is the difference between a Man and a Woman Doctor. I think Women are more understanding of the struggles we all go through to lose weight. My opinion of my Doctor has certainly changed. He was really good to my Husband when he was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, so we will probably keep using him, but I will ignore his inane comments from now on in regards to my weight loss journey. -
I wonder what would cause the band to tighten on it's own? I have only had one fill and I am not feeling any restriction yet. I would be nice if it would tighten up without another fill.

I had my first fill on August 7 and the next morning the fill site look like someone had socked me in the stomach. It doesn't really hurt, but I have a GIANT bruise. I just assumed that was normal. It still hasn't gone away.
-
Good Luck to you to. My daughter had the same surgery last year and she didn't feel restriction until the 4th fill, so I guess that is normal. I'm just wondering why it would take two weeks to feel any restriction after a fill. Seems like it would be immediate.

Low Cost & Low Starting BMI
PianoLady replied to Sabrinaaa's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded with a BMI of 34 in Dallas, TX by Dr. Jaysalean. It was self pay at a cost of $10,250.00 with 3 free fills (With Fluoroscope). I am nearly 7 weeks into this and have lost 17 lbs. I have been extremely pleased so far. -
1st fill in today after surgery on 6-23-10
PianoLady replied to cre8art56's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Same with me. The clear liquids didn't cause any pain but the protein shake did. I can't really tell if I have any restriction yet, but I haven't pushed it. Congrats on your weight loss, I have only lost 16 lbs so far, but I am happy with that. How many cc's did they place in your band? I have a 10 cc Realize band and they just gave me 1.6 cc's. -

Thanks for your input. How are you doing? My tummy hurt quite a bit after I drank my liquids, but only in the evening. Did you have any pain? -

I had my first fill on 8-7 and am supposed to be on liquids for 7 whole days. Is that what most Doctors recommend? -
Bloating, nausea and some pain after fill
PianoLady replied to PTinUtah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my first fill August 27 and am having some bloating pain and nausea as well, especially in the evening. I am just drinking liquids. It's good to know that others are having the same problem. I am just going to take it easy and just drink liquids for the 7 day period recommended by my Dr. -
I was banded on 6-25 and get my first fill tomorrow. The same thing happened to me and it is discouraging. I lost 16 lbs initially but I when I went off mushies I gained 5 lbs back. I really hope the fill will help. So this isn't unusual?
