    Abdominal Drainage Bag

Some surgeons use them and some don't, so they are common...that won't be a problem, a friend of mine said it didn't hurt coming out, but everyone is different. My surgeon uses them and it doesn't bother me, I think we will probably be glad to get it out though.
  2. My surgeon recommends lap-band surgery for older patients because it a less invasive surgery, God Bless!!!

    Approved YAY!

No, I do not, but my surgeon is so popular/busy, they are scheduling two months out right now, so it will still take a while after I finish everything to have the surgery.

I've started testing also, it makes it more real that it's happening!

    panni

You probably need to see your Dr. to document the complaints and prescriptions for antibiotics and/ creams
  8. Gas can be very painful and I haven't been sleeved yet, but with another surgery I had it took days, I walked a lot to try to get it to move down, but it definitely hurts!

    BCBS Blue Choice

I am also going to a center of excellence, the only one listed in my area, so I'm happy because I found thaf out!
  13. It seems hair loss is greater in people who get bypass or sleeve compared to band...banders seem to look overall healthier during their loss. Would you agree? I need to make a decision pretty soon. Thanks

    BCBS Blue Choice

My Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois is not difficult to work with at all. I don't have to do a six month assessment with my PCP, some BCBS does, but not hard to work with.

    battle of the bulge

Everyone has different stories...here is mine...I called the surgeons office and they scheduled me for a seminar, which was tonight, they sent me information to take to my Primary Care Physician to get a letter of recommendation from him, lab work, chest x-ray, and EKG, and do an online application, which is all completed. They are going to call me to come in for a Dr. visit, then go to a nutritionist and get a psych evaluation. And when that's completed i will be scheduled for surgery. My insurance doesn't require a wait period.

    Pre op visit was today

I think that is normal but you will regret it if you don't go through with it...it's less than 1% chance of something going wrong...ask the Lord to give you strength and to see you through this surgery, God Bless!!!

    Seminar

I went to the seminar tonight...the surgeon doesn't like doing lap-bands, he said they last on average of twelve years. He said he would be alright giving them to older patients because the risk is very minimal in the beginning. I could tell he preferred the sleeve over the bypass. I keep getting closer to being sleeved!

Hair loss with band vs. sleeve

I went to the seminar tonight...this surgeon doesn't care for lap-band, he said they last an average of 12 years. I do think banders look healthier over other WLS people. I guess I am looking at getting sleeved!

    pre.sleeve but dreaming of plastics.

I'm dreaming of separate procedures, I'm not a hero and I don't want to push it...I want breasts up where they belong and a tummy job...at separate times

    pre surgery questions

What are a few specific questions that you're not getting answered? Has your insurance already approved you?
  23. I was told my insurance required six month weigh ins and my insurance carrier said I didn't...so the surgeons office is finally reading up on my insurance closer, it's looking like I won't have to wait that long...unless I have a lot more tests to do! Yay, I'm getting excited

    My fears

I see where a lot of people have thought about backing out of the surgery for different reasons. I'm going to name some of my fears but I still want to have it...making it through surgery, saggy skin and if it will be as bad as just staying big, thinning hair, I heard your face can wrinkle, having cosmetic surgery, not being able to afford cosmetic surgery, not losing to goal weight or even get near it etc. We all have things go through our minds, but I think we will regret not having WLS more! God Bless!!!
  25. I am very early in my journey...I was told today I could lose 20 lbs. and still be eligible for the sleeve surgery....but how will losing weight that very last week or two before surgery when you're on a liquid diet play into the weight loss? Do I need to save a 10 lb. weight lose for that or once I'm that far it doesn't matter?
