    July Surgery Date

Four months to nine months to go through the process is the normal...and yes, no smoking...I hear my surgeon gives a nicotine test and if you fail, no surgery

    Ready!

Hi, welcome...I'm not sleeved yet but I can tell you a few things I have read about. Everyone is different! Some have nausea, pain, bloating, dizzy right after surgery to hardly having any pain at all. Some go back to work within a week after surgery, some cannot. Drink or eat protein first, drink water, vegetables second and starches last. It might take a few weeks to get all your protein at first. Most people never go over 850-1000 calories a day after surgery, even two years out. Eat and chew slowly. Make wise decisions. I am taking hand-me-down clothes from friends who are 2, 3, and 4 sizes smaller so I don't have to buy as much during each weight loss stage. Expect to be thinner!

Week 3 Post-Op No weight loss...

It sounds like you are doing everything right! At this point you have done all you can. You have had the surgery and eating and drinking. You will have to start losing soon.
  5. I can only tell you a little bit because a friend of mine is the one with the disorder...she is scheduled for gastric sleeve in July and her Surgeon is going to put something in her thigh or groin area to prevent any clots from moving up, if she gets a clot.

    Really having doubts now

I have thought and wondered how I would feel with the excess skin. I think, "what if I can't afford to have my tummy fixed". So, you are not alone in your thinking, we are human. I know plent of people who look nice after surgery, without clothes I don't know lol
  7. I have researched online and found out I cannot take a multivitamin that contains tryptophan, so a pharmacist told me that Centrum didn't have that ingredient...tryptophan is in foods but it's not supposed to be taken in vitamin form with an antidepressant. So, here's a question for anyone who knows the answer...Is there any protein shakes that do not contain this ingredient? I need to know and will discuss with my surgeon, anyone else had this problem and already did the research for me lol?

    What to ask at consult?

Just because someone is a plastic surgeon doesn't mean they have experience with WLS patients. Make sure to ask. I'm going to post a link from a girl on YouTube who shared her journey, you can find a lot of her videos. Most people have success. My friend had to have two separate surgeries because I think total operating time was longer than 8 hours...she said that healing in her thigh lift hurt the most, God Bless!!! http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=a9vpZ1y71Vo

    Lexapro and WLS

I copied and pasted from drugs.com What should I avoid? Avoid taking tryptophan while you are taking Lexapro. Ask your doctor before taking a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) for pain, arthritis, fever, or swelling. This includes aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), celecoxib (Celebrex), diclofenac, indomethacin, meloxicam, and others. Using an NSAID with escitalopram may cause you to bruise or bleed easily. Drinking alcohol can increase certain side effects of Lexapro. Lexapro may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert. So far, Premier has the lowest amount of tryptophan, about .36 for a chocolate shake that's probably fine.
  10. This has crossed my mind, although I haven't been sleeved yet but I already have kind of thin hair, I wonder if Women's Rogain has ever been used by WLS patients and it worked. I have never heard one person mention it...on any site or YouTube video! 11. She is going better, thank God, and believes it was gas
  12. A friend of mine was sleeved on Monday and she felt like her neck was swollen. She went to the ER, but not the hospital she had surgery, and the told her it was probably a gas bubble. I happened to be at the ER with my husband and I personally knew the nurse assigned to my husband and I told her I was going to be sleeved and should I just pass up this hospital and go where I have the surgery and she said yes, unless life threatening or I just need I.v. Fluids. I hope my friend is alright, but I haven't heard of swelling in the neck, have any of you?

    Is anyone else cold?

Four of my female friends who are sleeved did the same thing. Years post-op, they are still cold.

  15. I haven't been sleeved yet, and I hear a lot about hair loss. I know several women in my community who have had the surgery and I have talked to them and their hair thinned a little but it wasn't a big problem for them. After a year after the surgery you would never know it was ever thin. Can I please hear of more success stories in this area? Anyone out there that it didn't cause a major problem?
  16. mentalistfan

    Ok, the hair thing again

My problem is, I have thin hair to begin with, I'm praying and will continue for God to show me favor in this area!

    What to ask the doctor?

I had a surgeon in mind and contacted them for information and someone from the office mailed me six assessment flow sheets to be filled out by my PCP. Very simple...date, my name, date of birth, height, weight, weight loss/gain since last visit...then they want to know if I have diabetes, hypertension, etc. he stated I was morbid obese, he put me on a 1200 calorie a day diet and recommend I walk 30 minutes daily 4 times a week.
  20. Yes, I heard this story...she had a brain tumor removed and it did something to her that made her hungry and she was over 200 lbs.

    Success after 5 years?

A lot, and almost every person I knew that had weight loss surgery in the late 70's or 80's gained it back. But I see way more long term success now. I just talked to a woman I used to work with who had gastric bypass in the early 2000's, she also had plastic surgery, she looks great! You would have never known she was ever overweight.
  22. Don't ever make someone tell you twice they don't want you- Judge Lynn Toler?...the way I see it, this is a new beginning for you all the way around...the drinking needs to stop and pull yourself together before surgery. Start exercising and feeling good about yourself, there are more than one fish in the sea!

    Doubting...please help

I'm having doubts and don't have a surgery date. I was at my daughter's softball game this morning and one of the coaches was asked how much weight he has lost, he had sleeve last year, he answered 115 lbs. I know I need to have the surgery but I'm afraid of complications too.
  24. mentalistfan

    And so it begins!

FYI, can't smoke, if you do you will have to quit before surgery!
  25. mentalistfan

Six months of weight lose programe.

Sometimes that is what you need to do, others go their PCP and they are weighed and put on a diet, and they go there six straight months. Call your insurance or the insurance specialist or BOTH!
