Where is your port??
poslisa replied to lisa-conners@hotmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is located just under my last rib on my right side. Unfortunately, when I exercise and it involves bending at the waist it will actually rub against my ribs and start bothering me. Anyone else have this problem? -
Oh my gosh, lost another 7 pounds!
poslisa replied to hautemama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations to you! -
I just had my band placed 12 days ago and I had a similar feeling for a couple of days. I chewed a lot of GasX pills and it really helped. I was able to quit the Gas X at about day 8 and have not had that uncomfortable feeling anymore. Not sure your feeling the same thing that I was, but maybe give Gas X a try. Hope it gets better soon. Good luck.

Just banded and really suffering!
poslisa replied to whitemountainmagic's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was just banded on Monday, Jan. 17th. Postop in the hospital went well for me. I was out of recovery around 1 pm, released to the floor and released home around 4 pm. The first couple of days were not any fun and my thoughts of being up and doing household things did not pan out. I finally got out of the house on Saturday even if it was only to go to the grocery store with the kids. Today, I feel much better than even yesterday, but I still have pain at the port site and also a lot of gas. Sometimes I feel like the gas is now from not having much in my stomach, but I could be wrong. I'm sorry that your hospital postop didn't go quite how you wanted. Hopefully, you will start feeling better quickly. Good luck. -
Good luck! I go in at 8 am tomorrow and I am nervous also, but so excited to get this over and done with. I was counting down the days to surgery, now I am counting down the days until solid food again! Best of luck.

CALLING ALL JAN. 17 BANDERS - PLEASE REPLY
poslisa replied to roseyposey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also on 1/17. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I went out to a Brazilian Steakhouse the other night for a last hoorah and wasted my money and time. I was not interested in eating anything. I've become so used to drinking protein shakes for the past couple of months that I had no interest in eating any of the meats that I used to enjoy. I am on my prediet now which only consists of protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and then s amall piece of meat and steamed veggies for dinner. No breads allowed. How is your preop diet going? -
January 17th can't come soon enough!
poslisa replied to brittonswifey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! I also have a date of January 17th for surgery. I am getting excited but am also a little nervous. What does your pre-op diet consist of as my MD has not told me to be on one yet? I see him on the 7th and perhaps that is when they will go over that. Best of luck with everything. -
Denial Overturned - Jan. 17th surgery date
poslisa posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Finally got word that BC/BS granted my appeals and my surgery is now scheduled for January 17th. I was originally denied because I did not lose the 5% prior to surgery (was told by surgeon to be careful because my BMI was around 37 and he didn't want me to go too low) and they also said my psych eval stated that I wasn't a good candidate. I lost the 5% and also advised them that the psych eval suggested that I was a GOOD candidate for surgery. It took them almost 30 days to approve it but they did and now I am excited and scared at the same time. I'm hoping that the next 3 wks fly by. Now just have to decide on which lapband to get. -
Denial Overturned - Jan. 17th surgery date
poslisa replied to poslisa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stacy - I was denied because I did not lose the 5% prior to submitting paperwork for approval from BC/BS (NY). I would suggest that you ask for a copy of your BC/BS requirements for bariatric surgery so that you can review them prior to having your paperwork submitted. My BMI was below 40 and I was very concerned about getting denied because of that, so when the denial came I was not surprised but actually pleasantly surprised that it was only because I did not meet their 5% weight loss pre-requirement. Good luck. -
I just received word last week that my ins (BC/BS Teamsters NY) denied my claim to have the lapband surgery. They state that they denied me because I did not lose 5% prior to submitting claim and also that my psychiatric evaluation deems me not a good candidate for procedure?? My question is, has anyone else been denied the procedure because of the psych eval? That was the last reason I thought that they would give. My starting BMI is 36.5 and my MD told me to be careful about losing too much weight prior because it would drop my BMI below the 35. I have multiple co-morbidities (sleep apnea, high cholesterol, back issues, etc.). I just can't figure out the psych eval part of it. Has anyone else had this happen and how hard/easy was it to appeal just that issue. Go figure, the one issue I wasn't worried about and they deny me because of it. Thanks. Lisa

Ins Denial Reasons (Psych)
poslisa replied to poslisa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, went to see my surgeon yesterday and I have now lost the 5% that they insurance company wanted. I asked about my psych eval and asked if I could see what it said and why was I denied due to it. I was read the report and no where did the evaluation say that I was a poor candidate. Actually, it said that I was a good candidate that should have good results with the placement of a lapband. I explained to the surgeon about my denial letter and they looked at the one that they recieved and there was nothing about being denied because of psych eval only because the 5% weight loss was not achieved. So much for thinking I was crazy for the past two weeks Surgeon's office is resubmitting my paperwork as of yesterday and I should hear in the next day or right after the holidays! Thanks for your responses. -
Ins Denial Reasons (Psych)
poslisa replied to poslisa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for your responses. I see the surgeon on Monday for another weigh in to see if I am down the extra 5 lbs that I needed. At that time, I will ask them for a copy of my eval and get on the phone immediately with insurance. Thanks for the input. -
I've just started getting all of my testing out the way in preparation of the surgeon sending my records to the insurance company for approval. I'm wondering if anyone else has used BCBS NYS Teamsters and how the approval process went. I have a BMI of 37.5 but I have mild sleep apnea, mild heart condition with a letter from the cardiologist stating that weightloss would benefit my heart condition and I also have high cholesterol. Anyone else with similar conditions and how fast was the approval or denial (hopefully the first one). Thanks in advance for your response.
