Any bedside nurses out there?
mdicurn replied to emmasmom60's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am an ICU nurse. I hope to be banded the end of March. I am planning to take off 3 weeks, but as I work weekend-option if I plan it right taking off 6 12-hr shifts can buy me a total of 26 days off. I took 2 weeks off when I had my gallbladder out laproscopically and I felt really tired jumping back into 12 hour shifts. So, I am thinking 3 weeks would be better. Plus I might be moving on to solids by the end of the third week - so that could make things a little easier. Now if I can just get the date! -
Hi All! Please add me to the list. I have my next appointment on February 16, and hope to be banded by the end of March. I have been on a pre-op diet since December 12th and have lost about 15 pounds, but I seem to be stuck there. That has been my story for the last couple of years. I lose a little bit of weight, stop losing, get depressed and gain it all back plus 10 pounds! I have had all my pre-op stuff done except the sleep study. I have PCOS, and a fatty liver, but no hypertension or diabetes or sleep apnea to my knowledge. I am worried that I will not be approved. :cry My biggest concern is that I will gert a date, take the time off, then be denied. I have to have my schedule for April in by Feb 19th! *sigh* Anyway, keep your fingers crossed! Jen

Thanks Wheetsin! I guess I should start buying my Xanax and rubber mallets now for the 2008 Presidential Election then, huh? :faint:

I am really new here, but I would love to know how a thread about Antisemitism in France got subjugated into all out religious warfare. We all believe strongly in how we believe. I doubt very seriously that anyone has convinced anyone to change any opinions about anything through out the 37 pages of this thread. I understand that it is a directive to be a missionary and present The Word to those who have never heard it but at some point you must realize that the proselytizing has become not only unconstructive but detrimental to your desire for someone to hear The Word. The focus then becomes less about the The Word itself and more about the messenger. Once that happens it is very difficult to ressurect the desire to hear it in the first place.

Where do you get your Protein drinks/shakes? Do you order them online, or buy them from the grocery store. The only ones that I seem to be able to find in the grocery aisle are Slim Fast and though I have not tried one lately, the ones I remember tasted like cocoa flavored chalk! Any suggestions? :help:

PreOP or not PreOP Diet that is the question
mdicurn replied to househuntress's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went in for my first appointment at GBMC's Comprehensive Weight Loss Center on December 12th and saw the Nutritionist, Nurse Practitioner and the Dr. They did put me on a pre-op diet that is basically a high protien, low fat, low carb diet. However, it is not designed to be a strict diet, but more of a introduction to the way my lifestyle and eating habits will change AFTER the banding. My first goal was very simple - to stop skipping meals, namely Breakfast. After I accomplised that I set out to work on my nemesis - Diet Coke! I thought that not being able to have carbonated drinks would kill me, but I have been over a week without a Diet Coke and I still LIVE! :omg: Who knew?!? My current goal is no white flour, sugar carbs, and I am doing ok with that. I have lost 3 pounds even with Christmas -whoever invented sugar Cookies should be shot! I did ask if there was a liquid preop diet and she said that it was only for the day before the surgery! (Thank you GOD!) A friend of mine had a RNY done 6 months ago at a different facility and when I told her about the diet, she said she wished that they had done the same thing with her as the hardest part was learning how to eat right after the surgery. My next appointment is Jan 12, and I hope to be banded by March. -
Hello! After 20 years worth of diets and diets and more diets that have left me right back where I started, I have my very first "Informational Session" at GBMC in Baltimore, Maryland tonight! I am really looking forward to it. I am leaning more towards lapbanding because of the lack of an anastomosis (they scare me) and the fact that it is a restrictive rather than malabsorptive procedure (vitamins are our friends!). I just found out that my insurance will pay for lapbanding starting in January, -HALLELUJAH! Anyway, I have been reading my way through the forum and I must say, Nice place you have here! :biggrin1:
