  1. I use My Fitness Pal also, plus you can use the weight ticker as well.
  2. I have the exactly same "hardness" you described but when I asked my doctor he said that IS my port. Are you sure that's not the case?

    End of Year Challenge

I lost 3 lbs last week. I'm a little under the weather and I'm super busy at work, so this week will be a challenge. I just updated the spreadsheet and notice we've lost a combine 179.9 lbs (I'm sure it's more since it looks not everyone has updated) so keep up the good work everyone!
  4. I had my surgery on Oct 20th and I was supposed to get my first fill today....but my insurance company didn't approve the fill in time and now it'll be postponed for 2 weeks or so. Kind of sucks, I was hoping to get the ball rolling on fills to reach that sweet spot. On a bright note, my weight loss has been pretty consistent ever since my first appointment with my Dr. and I'm on pace to reach my End of Year goal.

    Soft foods?

I'm in the soft foods stage and I've been eating lots of tuna, soft scrambled eggs, oatmeal and I can have a little bit of rice and pasta. Included in this stage for me is crispy foods (ie: crackers and even well toasted bread). Refried beans are also great. Did your doctor give you a list of foods that you can and can't have? I'd check with your doctor since it seems all doctors differ when it comes to diets.
  6. Joe, it seems you've been pretty diligent about posting your meals so I'm going to join you so you're not alone. I was banded on Oct 20th and my weight loss has been pretty steady. I have however slowed down (as expected), I don't get my first fill till the first week of Dec and I can't do any running or weight lifting yet so I'm walking a few times a week (1.5-2 miles/per). Today I've had: B: 2 egg whites, 1/2 peice of whole wheat toast S: 6 oz V8 L: California Rolls 6 peices S: yogurt (Probably) D: 1 can of Tuna, lil bit of Mayo, relish & mustard (probably) Total is roughly 800 calories

    Just thoughts: Who defines "overweight"?

Height and Weight BMI measurements are the least accurate. When I was in the Army we had to have our BMI measured every 6 months or so, if you were above BMI of 21 or so they'd take your measurements. Neck, chest and belly...another way to check your BMI is with a tool that pinches you fat on your arms. Of the three, height and weight is the least accurate. If you want to know you actually BMI have it measured another way. People have such different body types that it's impossible to use height and weight.

    South Beach Diet Bandsters???

So, I know this is an old thread but I recently so a couple of people post about this diet. I myself have used SBD in the past with great success (losing the weight, not keeping it off...I am a bandster after all). I'm just over 1 week post-op and plan to this diet as a foundation for my eating, together with the band I really believe I can lose the weight and keep it off permanently. Good luck everyone.
  11. That was my experience, I was banded on Oct 20th, about the 5th & 6th day I was in horrible pain from the gas. It shot right to my left shoulder and felt like some nasty cramps right under my rib cage. That was a couple of days ago and now I feel fine. There is still a little gas but all in all I'm starting to feel normal again.
  12. Your profile picture is awesome!

    End of Year Challenge

If you would've asked how I was feeling a couple of days ago you would have gotten a completely different answer, but today I'm starting to feel back to normal. I feel a little bloated, but not much pain from the gas anymore. Thanks for asking.

    End of Year Challenge

Thanks for the spreadsheet isaviolinist. I'm an accountant so I can always appreciate that, haha. I'm only 1 week post-op so maybe my target weight loss is a little ambitious, but I figure it's not a challenge if I set the bar low....good luck everyone!

    End of Year Challenge

I'm going to join you guys, I was banded Oct 20th and between pre-op and the last week I've lost over 25lbs. My goal is to lose another 25lbs by New Years putting me right around 256lbs....that would mark my lowest weight in about 3 years. Good luck everyone.
  16. I'm with you (liquid phase), I can't wait to chew something.
  17. I'm only 1 week post-op and this shoulder pain is crippling, I know just gas and it will go away so I just have to weather the storm. On the bright side, I'm down over 25lbs in about a 1.5 months.

    Can't Handle Spicy Foods Anymore???

Oh man I would die, I was even putting Tapatio in my broth 2 days after surgery, haha.

    New Weight loss tip

Geesh, I would kill for some eggs right now. I'm still in the liquids stage till Nov 3rd (banded Oct 20th).

    One day to surgery day

I'm on the same boat as you, surgery date is Oct 20th I have to register at 5:30am. I'm having mine at USC University Hospital (Los Angeles). Still not nervous, but I'm sure I will be the day of. Good luck on your journey!

    Shaving before surgery

My surgery is on Wednesday (Oct 20th) and they specifically told me not to shave anywhere below my face. They told me that if I knick myself anywhere around the surgery area there's a chance they'll have to postpone. I don't know how serious they are about that but I'm playing it safe and letting them handle it.
  22. My surgery is next week (Oct 20th) and I wasn't told to drink any shake. However, I'm drinking them anyways as a meal replacement for my breakfast right now to help with the pre-surgery weight loss . I used to workout a lot and have tried a ton of different shakes and the one I take now is by far my favorite. I bought it on amazon.com, it's called Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard. Check out the ratings, 4.5 stars with over 600 reviews. I got the Extreme Milk chocolate, I blend it with 1 banana, 1 cup of non-fat milk and some ice. I'm telling you it's really good. Plus it's 24g of protein and only 1g of sugar and 3g of carbs. I'm telling you, just compare the nutritional fact to other proteins. Anyways, just thought I'd add my .02 cents.
  23. Yes, I think you should find another surgeon. I'm in the LA area too and I'm going through the USC Bariatric Dept, my surgeon is Dr. Katkhouda. He is an excellent surgeon and my experience has been nothing short of incredible. My insurance would only cover certain doctors and he was one of them. Those 1-800-get-slim people have billboards up all over the LA area and that alone raises red flags.

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

My dates is Oct 19th but I wasn't told I have to do any specific pre-op diet. Only thing I was told was I had to lose 10lbs before then and I'm already there. I just have to do clear liquids after 5pm the day before the surgery and nothing past midnight. I'm hoping to lose a total of 20lbs before Oct 19h....losing weight has never been a problem for me, keeping it off is another story. Good luck everyone!
  25. This does not sound like fun at all. I just got my surgery date of Oct 19th and all I was told was to lose 10lbs before the surgery and only clear foods starting 5pm the day before. I do have to call my nutritionist today though, maybe he'll put me on that diet then?
