    back to work too soon?

Milchelle, How are you today?? Remember if you have that crazy gas pain in the shoulder, get up and walk!!! I also took gas x (I took the walgreen brand) that seemed to help, not really sure if it was that or walking!. It took me a few days to get rid of it, but I had a past surgery and had the same gas problem. Your recovery time was very much the same as mine. In & out!! To answer your question on weight loss, I am 5'3 & I have lost 30lbs. I started at 185 and now I am at 155. My goal is another 25-30 lbs I have been banded for a year. I wasn't too much over weight to begin with, so I am a "SLOW LOSER" I was a size 12 to begin.I tried losing the weight for a long time trying everything you can imagine. Nothing worked. This did. Best thing I have ever done!!. Really. There are days when I struggle and say what have I done, but after I get over feeling sorry for myself, I know I made the BEST decision for myself. After you have the band for about two months you really get into a routine. I cannot eat bread, that was VERY hard to get over. So I am still learning to either put it (whatever it is) on a plate or a big leaf of lettuce and make a wrap! Everyone is different though. Some people struggle with bread and some meats. I do. I just have to remember to cut it as if a baby with a few teeth were going to eat it!!! VERY,VERY small pieces. and it must be juicy meat too. I can't digest hard dry meats. I will start to slime if I do, they have a very hard time going down! Well I hope everything is healing well and your strength is starting to return. Rest as much as you can this weekend and I hope you are well enough to return to work on Monday!! Best of Luck to you!!

    back to work too soon?

Sorry for the delay, been on vacation! My liquid drinks included: coffee, water, broth, protein drinks thinned down(I used slim fast low carb), I bought the small bottles of sf-cranbrerry juice(perfect size), small v8 ,sports drinks, sf jello cups, skim milk, tea. I kept these on my desk at work and sipped on something all day. When I moved on to pureed, I tried using small jars of baby food but I didn't like it so I made my own. Believe me, just puree any protein or vegs you are cooking up for dinner for your family. I put my meat in the Magic Bullet and added a little broth & seansonings and it turned out fine.same with the vegies. You will only be eating a couple tablespoons to a 1/4cup at a time at first so you dont need to make a bunch! My doctor had me keep a diary from day one to monitor my intake of everything. I looked back and for the first two months I am amazed at how little I took in!! I wasn't hungry though! Good Luck!!!

    Lapband Before Cruise

I had the same concerns at one time! I was banded late September had my first fill late November and went to the Atlantis/Bahamas in December. I think you should be on solids by then, but every doctor is different. I did two weeks liquids, two weeks soft, then solids. When I travel to this day I always carry Medifast or some type of protien packets just incase I can't seem to eat solids at every meal that day. I always have trouble at breakfast so I would just order a glass of milk and mix my protein packet in it at the table! I always made sure when we ate lunch or diner to order safe foods (contrary to what people say)I didn't want an episode at lunch/dinner with friends. I ordered soft foods, soups, mashed or baked pots, oatmeal with milk to thin it down, etc.etc. I have been on several cruises and I know the temptation with all the food available but you should do fine if you watch what you eat. Look ahead at the daily menus and think about and plan what will fit in your diet. Good Luck and have fun!!!

    A port question

my port is just to the right of my belly button. I had a single incision surgery through the belly button so I was a "lttle" swollen arounf that area after surgery for awhile. I can feel my port when I press in that area or sometimes when I bend over to pick something up off the floor. Other than that It doesn't bother me.

    Numbing medication with fills

My doctor uses either Derma Jet or some kind of Cold Spray. He sprays the port area while he sticks the needle in. You dont even feel it. I have had it with and without the spray. I perfer the spray but not really a big deal without the spray.

    back to work too soon?

I packed a soft cooler that I bought from Walmart and made sure I had a good variety of liquids to "SIP" on throughout the day. I didn't want to get tired of the same drink all day so I mixed it up. You stomach is swollen, but you need to keep hydrated. You can't take much in at a time, so please SIP. The hardest part for me was braking the habit of larger portions. MEASURE EVERYTHING and WRITE IN DOWN, this will help when you start getting adjustments. You will know how much your intake is. This will def. help the doctor do a proper fill. It takes time to get used to the band. Your eyes are always bigger than your new stomach. Pay attention to your stomach. STOP when you even think your getting full. It takes time to understand your new digestive system. Good Luck!!:blushing:

    lapband and upper back pain

My Sitiuation: I have had the same right rib pain this week. I had my gallbladder removed sometime ago so I knew it wasnt that. I also felt a little bloated/tight in the chest area. So I went to the doc and he said it is air trapped in the diaphram area. I asked how someone gets that and he said you take in more air when you eat and drink then you realize and then the more you worry about it the more stressed you get and it makes it worse. It will go away. Now the pain in the upper back area is cause by over eating, even if it's just a little bit.
