Is there a bandster out there who can eat whatever they want just smaller portions? Other than bread, are there other foods that dont seem to work with the band. I get my first fill in 4 weeks. Right now Im starving and I can eat anything so Im just wondering if that will change.

Thats a long time to be on full liquids. My doc said after 2 weeks I needed to go on real food. Im sure you did no harm to your belly. My doc says that anything longer than 3 weeks of full liquids is depriving your body of things it needs. Im almost a month out and I could see myself doing the same. At this point you just simply have a band around your belly with no restriction. Its easy to do and you are human. I believe that as long as you get back on to your diet the next day everything will be fine. We all mess up every now and again.

I have a question for all you bandsters out there. I was banded 3 weeks ago. My doc has me on regular food now. So for over 2 weeks I was consuming about 800 cals a day. Now I am eating a little more. I walk 5K a day. I was wondering if anyone could explain to me when the weight loss will begin. I actually lost nothing but I gained a pound. Once I get a fill I cant imagine eating much less than 800 cals a day especially when exercdising a lot. Just seems so weird that my body isnt responding to this very expensive proceedure. I welcome help and advice from anyone who has gone through this. Thanks guys!

I am close to you too. Im 5'4 and 220. I was banded 3 weeks ago and my doc put me on a regular diet last week. Im so hungry now. I cant say if its the right choice yet. I paid $14K total so far. I have lost no weight, infact, I gained a pound. I walk 5K a day and eat less than 800 cals a day. Its what the doc said. So right now I think I wasted money, but after I get a fill Im hoping it changes. I eat such small portions now that I cant imagine eating any less in order to lose weight. Im so disappointed as it stands. Ill see what happens in the future. Best of luck to you.

Thank you for those comments. Its interesting. Its been almost 3 weeks for me and I have lost nothing, but I gained a pound! I am starving BUT Im eating really well and exercising 5 days a week for an hour. Im shocked, to be honest, that my body isnt responding. No worries though....I guess it will all work out after my first fill. Im private pay too so I know what its like to feel like you didnt just waste thousands of dollars. Thanks for sharing!

Im glad you are doing well. Im 16 days post op and I have lost nothing, in fact, I gained a pound. I dont have problems eating or drinking, I never did. Doc said I wont lose weight until after I have a fill. Im so hungry now. Keep up the great work!

I was banded 15 days ago. I had my follow up appointment today. I love my doc. He's very liberal. I was only on full liquids for a week then mushies for a week. Now he wants me to eat normally. Of course I need to load up on protein, chew well and eat slowly. He said he has been doing this a long time and the whole process is often misunderstood. He said there is no need to be on liquids for as longs as I read most people are. I have been very hungry but Im getting kind of use to it. I will have my first fill in 4 weeks. I walk 5K every day and eat 3 very small meals a day. You'd think Id lose some weight but as it turns out I have gained a pound since my surgery date. He said not to worry about it. The weight loss will be very slow. I have no idea how much I weigh and I dont care. He said it will probably take me a year to lose 50lbs. Thats about 1 pound a week. Does anyone else have a similar story? I thought things may go a little faster?

Dont be nervous. Its not bad at all. I wasnt in much pain and didnt take any pain meds. Takes just a few days to feel like yourself again. Nothing to be nervous about.
-
May I ask why you are taking chewable vitamins? My doc said to resume taking all meds/supplements the day after surgery.
-
I only had to do clear liquid for 1 day then full liquids for 10 days then off to mushies. Eat jello or purchase some high protein soup mix from a bariatric website. They are pretty good. Thats a loooooong time to be on liquids. I dont think I could make it if I knew other doctors let their patients go to full liquids after 1 day.

Im 2 weeks post op and I havent lost a pound nor are my clothes fitting differently. I work out at least an hour 5 days a week and I eat mushies 3x a day. I cant believe my body isnt responding. It does make me so mad sometimes. I hope it changes or I just lost several thousands of dollars. -
I am 1 week post op and I am very hungry too. I drinik protein shakes and drinks but the hunger pains kill me. Im so grumpy and light headed. I started myself on some mushies. I had some refried beans and pea soup. I feel much better when I eat those. Both provide protein and it is not hard on the band. Im too scared to try real food. I paid 13K for this and Ill be damned if Im ganna mess it up. Good Luck to you.

I was banded last week and it wasnt bad at all. Your belly button will be sore and you will have some gas pains in your belly and shoulders. I never needed pain meds. Now, 6 days after.... Im fine. Belly is still sore and Im really hungry but other than that Im fine. Best wishes to you. Dont be nervous!

Dont worry, I was just banded on Tuesday and its not bad at all! The worst part is being pumped with fluid in the hospital and going to the bathroom every 45 min. Your belly will be a little sore. I didnt even need any pain meds. So, really, dont worry about anything. Its a simple proceedure
-
good for you! Im 6 days post-op and I did 3k today. Im still sore in my belly button and the hunger pains make me very irritable. Luckly my doc advances the diet rather quickly.
-
You will be fine. I was banded Tuesday. Truthfully, the worst part was all the fluids they pumped into me while in the hospital made me pee every 45 min. No joke! When you're tired and you're belly is sore the last thing you wanna do is get up out of bed and go to the bathroom with an IV stand every 45 min. You'll be fine though. Dont be nervous or scared.

Jane, You and I have a lot in common. I was banded 4 days ago. I still get gas pains in my left shoulder and my belly button is sore. I go back to work Monday. Thankfully my diet is much more open than yours. I just ate some high protein cottage cheese. I eat greek yogurt every day and I just got some grits today. It seems like you are way to restricted. The reason we cant eat harder foods is for risk that that it may move the band... so everything needs to be soft. I dont get why you are on liquids so long. Jeez. I have hunger pains as it is... I cant imagine how you fee. Keep us posted

Dont be nervous about the surgery. I was banded on Tuesday and I can tell you its not bad. I didnt have to do a pre-op diet. Im not sure why some docs do that and some dont. I really dont know what I weigh and still dont. That number does not mean anything to me. My doc said that since my BMI was around 38 that I didnt need to do anything before surgery. But I feel for you now. NOW....Im hungry. Some say they arent hungry, but I am. Im getting all my protein in and eating what I should but my god....hungry! The surgery is not bad. When I woke up I didnt have any pain and I was not sick. Just tired. I had some gas pains that were not alieviated by walking as some say. But by today they are completely gone. Really, you will be just fine.

I had my surgery Tuesday the 12th. I am paying out of pocket so I didnt use any pain meds and refused the meds they wanted to give me in the hospital. Really, I felt ok. My pain level was about a 4 and that was mostly gas. I tried walking around the unit but that did not help. My incision sites are sore and I still have slight gas pains. I kinda feel hungry which I didnt expect. Im on full fluids so I just had a cup of greek yogurt. Seems like everything went well and it was a fairly easy surgery and recovery. On a comical note, the hospital put me in a room with a lady who had lap band 6 months ago. She ended up being very sick with it so they took it out and now she has a bad infection. She was a very nice lady and we had a chuckle about her being my roommate but I would have preferred not to hear that story the day of my surgery. How long does it take for the soreness to go away? How long will I have these hunger pains? Is it safe to be walking outside 2 days after surgery?
-
Thanks guys. My doc wanted me on full liquids 2 days after surgery. I have been eating cream soups, yogurt and puddings. Mostly everything I have eaten I have ordered off of bariatricchoice.com....high protein. Im very grumpy; the hunger pains are getting to me. Each day when I get out of bed I feel much better. I have 5 incisions that have disolvable stitches and the only one that hurts is the one he put my port under. Thats still pretty sore. I have 5 more days of this diet then I can move to mushies. So looking forward to that. It does make me wonder why the docs are all so different with basically the same proceedure. Im wondering what the difference between mashed potatoes or mush eggs and greek yogurt would be? I can have the yogurt but not the others. Has anyone tried eating mushies a week after surgery?

Well, I had my surgery yesterday. It wasnt bad. I didnt use any of the pain meds. My pain level is about a 3 or 4. I have some gas pains, my belly is sore but mostly I feel hunger pains. I can feel my belly grumbling but it doesnt seem to subside. I walk from time to time and I have been drinking every 2 hours. I guess Im doing well but I dont exactly feel my best. When do the hunger pains go away? How long until the incision sites arent so sore?

Hello! Today is my first day as a member of the site. I have been reading your messages for weeks now. I will be banded some time in September. I have 2 appointments to go. I am a self-pay. I'm getting very nervous because many of the posts talk about not much of a weight loss , being disappointed or being VERY hungry. Is the lapband worth all this money I will be paying? I have about 50lbs to lose. I love to work out but I also love to eat. I would asppreciate what anyone has to say. Thanks guys

I wanted to tell you , your pic is absolutly gorgeous! Thank you for posting this. I read these blogs every day and most people talk about bad experiences and very slow weight loss. Im having my surgery next month and it scares me every time I log into this site. My doc assures me that its not as bad as people say it is. Please keep posting! How was the first day or two after your surgery?
