    I must be crazy!

I do P90X 5 days a week and sometimes INSANITY. Its not that difficult if you are use to working out. If you are not it will take some getting use to. Start out with really light weights and you will do fine. I have been workingout my whole life so these workouts arent that hard for me. I usually end up doing a weight DVD and a cardio one . Thats about 2 hours of workout a day. For me, since my body is use to it, I have not lost much weight. I started at 231 and now Im 205 - 6 monts later. I was doing well until I needed an unfill - now Im back to eating what I want and I cant take any weight off. Boy oh boy, this whole lapband thing is such a struggle for me. The best to you!!

    From: NOT WORKING!

Im not sure who you were directing your email towards. Your ID is a lot like mine so I was confused. I kept getting food stuck and after 3 days of no food, no liquide and not being able to get saliva down thus throwing up every 20 min I decided to get the fluid taked out. He put most of it back in but now I feel like I did after my 2nd fill. I was able to eat normally again.... I went to eat at a Chinese Buffet and had 2 plates of food. It was sooooo good after not being able to eat for a month. Im still eating more than I should because I feel hungry all the time. I know I have gained weight back but I refuse to get on the scale and be dissappointed. I dont want to have a little fill because I will be back where I was and having food stuck all the time. I just hope I have the dedication to "diet" everyday and not eat all the time. Whats up with you?
  3. My doc didnt care. He said be careful of bubbly drinks like chamagne and beer but otherwise drinking was fine.

    sick of throwing up

Well, after 3 full days of throwing up every 20 minutes, no food and no water I demanded to be seen by my doc today. He took all the fluid out of my band and put most of it back in. Ahhhhhh! I was finally able to eat some soup and drink water. All of this from ONE small bit of a cheeseburger ( no bun). Sure, I lost 6 lbs in the past few days but I would rather have a slow and steady weight loss than to have to go through that again. Soooo tired of throwing up my own saliva all the time.

    My first blog.....

You should be able to eat whatever you want without having any fills. I could eat plenty until my 3rd fill. I ate whatever I liked. Just have smaller portions.

    Stuck. HELP!

Ive been staying on liquids so I decided to have some thin pea soup. Took 2 sips and now Im stuck again. I keep throwing up like last night only its not as bad. I dont get it. This has just happed all of a sudden. I think I must be swollen and irritated in my stomach now so I guess its just being really finicky. I havent had a fill recently so I know that is not the problem. I cancelled my 4th fill. I hate to have some fluid taken out of my band. The weight loss has been soooo slow as it is. WOW... for those who say this "cheating" or "taking the easy way"...I think not!!

    Stuck. HELP!

I threw up many times last night, I could barely sleep. Called the doc first thing this morn and he thinks I just had food stuck. He assured me everything that I was experiencing was a food blockage and then being swollen. He said if the band slipped that I would know it because it is VERY painful. I was very uncomfortable but I cant say I was in PAIN. He said if I can get fluids down today I should be fine. Liquids today then soft foods tomorrow. Wow, that was very scary! I did not want to go to the ER because I know there isnt anything they can do. I dont think they even have the needles to take some fluid out. Now, if I was in severe pain I would have gone. Also, I dont think my insurance would cover any of that. I paid for the surgery myself because it was denied. Im in no position to pay ER bills. I should be ok. Im having some hot tea now and all seems to be well. Just know, bandsters, that it only takes one bite of food to cause this and dont be afraid that the band has slipped unless you have real pain, not discomfort. I was planning on getting my 4th fill in few weeks but after this... I think Ill just stick to what I have. The weight is coming off, just very slowly. I lose about a pound a week. Thats fine. Its not worth these episodes just to lose weight quicker. Thank you for your support.

    The weighting game

Like everyone else was saying... most of us dont get good restriction until the 3rd and 4th fill. I have been banded over 5 months and I have only lost 25 lbs. During the first 2 fills I only lost 10 lbs. I work out hard but I know I was eating too much and even now, some days, I eat more than I should because I dont feel restricion. Im looking forward to the 4th fill. Im certain that will enable me to get to where I want to be. Dont get discouraged. MANY of us have had VERY slow weight loss. I blogged about it a lot. Yes, we see a lot of people talk about losing big numbers the first few months and seeing that was very discouraging to mee too. But the truth is.... you WILL see a change by the 4th fill.

    cant eat today

Thanks. Im on my period now. I cant imagine how this would affect my band but maybe it is...? Today, so far, I cant eat again. I made some egg whites with cheese and spinach and I only ate one small bite. I feel like I could throw up now. UGH. Well, if nothing else... maybe Ill lose a pound.

    cant eat today

I have had 3 fills. The last one was 5 weeks ago. The past few weeks I have been eating too much! I havent felt as much restriction as I would like. All of a sudden today, I can barely drink let alone eat anything. I take one bit of something and it just sits there. Whats the deal? Has anyone else had this happen?

    very slow weight loss

Hi everyone, It has been 5 months since I was banded. I have had 3 fills now. I think Im around 6.5cc in my 9 cc band. I felt restriction when I got the 3rd fill but that wore off after a month. I was 231 on my surgery date ( size 18) and now Im 207 ( size 14). I really expected the weight loss to come a little quicker. I work out hard but now I can see that Im eating too much. Is this normal? Is it normal to have such a slow weight loss?

    RN student starting a mission

I would love to get to 155 myself but I doubt that will happen. I started my surgery at 231 and today ( 5 months later) I am at 207. So I have had some weight loss but this process is MUCH slower than I have ever anticipated!!! I have lost 2 dress sizes and I love that but when I hear other peoples stories I kind of get disappointed. I have had 3 fills now and I have noticed that now I am eating way too much food. I had restriciton after that 3rd fill but now... now it has waned off. I have PMS this week and I have eaten anything I wanted. I hate that. I really thought the band would have helped me with that but not so far. Just have realistic goals for yourself. The band is a very slow process that requires much more work than I realized. Im still on a "diet" and I will be all my life. I work out hard but even that isnt enough to make me lose weight quicker. The best to you!!!

    Gaining weight and Fustrated

I was banded only one month before you. I just had my 3rd fill 3 weeks ago and finally feel some restriction. I was in the exact same boat as you and was terribly disappointed. I lost 11 lbs then gained 2. Now Im steadily losing about 1 lb a week. I still think thats very slow but I know Im going in the right direction. Trust me... this is a very slow process for many of us and remember... it takes 3-4 fills to start feeling restriction. You will know it when you are unable to eat what you want and the weight will come off. My doc said to expect a year or more to drop 50 lbs. I work out very hard but still let myself have any food I want ( just small portions and no bread since that gets stuck). You will get there. It just takes a lot longer than I had anticipated.

    "VALENTINES DAY AND CHOCOLATES"

Why would you feel guilty about eating chocolates? I eat whatever I want... only very small portions. We cant deprive ourselves, that would be horrible. We are still allowed to ENJOY food!

    5 Months Later....

Good for you. Ive been banded 5 months and havnet even lost 20 lbs yet. I work out hard and eat as well as I can ( cant get much in though). Its amazing to me how different we all are.

    Obsessed, Consumed?

There is nothing to worry about. I did not need to be on the pre-op diet. Actually I was on a cruize up until the day before surgery. The surgery was smooth. I woke up with minimal pain. It was not enough to take pain meds. Just sore in the belly and a little bit of gas pains. You will notice them usually in your shoulder. I stayed in the hospital that night and was terribly irritated that they kept pumping me full of fluids so I had to keep getting up to pee every 30 min. It was hard to do when your belly is sore. I still never took pain meds. It really wasnt that bad at all! It was a quick recovery. Felt sore for about 5 days but still not a big deal at all. I did liquids for a few days then right on to mushies. Doc said that was ok. As long as things are going down smoothly he said you really only need to be on liquids for a few days. Until my first fill 6 weeks later I lost NO weight!!!!! Between the first and second I lost 2 lbs. Between the second and third I lost 11 lbs. For me, its a VERY slow proceess but Ill get there. Dont be nervous or over anxious about dropping weight quickly. Now, after 3 fills...I finally feel some restriction. Its been 4 months. Again... very slow process. I paid for this myself and I am very pleased with my decision. I didnt say that for the first 3 months as I couldnt understand why I wasnt losing weight. I work out hard and I was only eating a third of what I use to... still the weight loss was painfully slow. Now, Its all I can do to get enough calories in to lose weight. You will do just fine. Simple proceedure. Keep us posted.

    Question for post-bandsters

Ive been banded 5 months now and although I have minimal weight loss despite all of my hard work I feel thankful that Im no longer able to over eat. Prior to surgery I ate good nutritional food but I ate a lot of it. Now, after my 3rd fill especially, Everything I eat has protein but usually doesnt have much fiber. My bowels dont seem to move the same and its more difficult. Im not able to eat very much and my first choice is protein - it must be that way since I work out very hard. I find that I dont have much more room for veggies and I certainly cant eat things like whole grains. Does anyone have a good nutritional supplement ( preferably food, not a pill) that would help me get the propper nutrion while still allowing me all the protein I need?

Soda, "Chips" and Cake and still losing weight....

OK... so I hate all of you who can eat pies and cakes. Im kidding of course. Just envious. I eat pretty much what I want ( or at least what will go down) but very small portion. I have only been banded 5 months now but Ive also only lost 20lbs. I burn about 700 cals a day with my workout. I refuse to deprive myself of the foods I want. If I want something sweet I will eat it. Just a few bites. Whats the big deal? Im happy for you folks who are losing weight much faster than I am. Good for you!
  19. kelly111

    Has anyone noticed?

I have the same issue. But hot coffee or tea does not loosen it up. I drink a protein shake before 11- very slowly- because thats all I can do. After 11 I can eat most anything until about 9 at night. Its so strange. Its like my belly is only open for business 11-9. Doc said its perfectly normal.
  20. kelly111

    Liquids again

Im with the others who posted above. Its been 5 months for me and I have only lost 20 lbs. I finally feel restriction at times with my 3rd fill. You will see a difference after that fill. Docs say that most people live between 3-4 fills and continue to lose weight. Give it time. I, too, was very disappointed especially since we see so many success stories on here. Give yourself 2 full years to get your weight off. Its suppose to take that long if you have more than 60 lbs to lose. After you are filled to the right amount you wont be able overeat...even if its bad food. You will only be able to eat a little bit. Thats where I am now, but I gotta tell you... the weight isnt coming off any quicker. Its not simple science like they say ( cals in must equal cals out). I eat about 1000 per day and work out VERY hard 5 days a week... still I lose 1 lb a week. So frustrating but I really dont have a choice at this point. Im just thankful that its coming off at all.
  21. kelly111

    Way too slow

I can relate! I was banded just one month before you . I posted several times on 2 different sites about how disappointed I was. Everyone seems to lose crazy weight in the first 6 months while Im sill at 22 lbs in nearly 5 months! My doc says not to worry. He says one pound a week should be my goal. Besides, there is nothing more I can do. I do very strenuous workouts for an hour 5 days a week and I eat fairly well. I also have had 3 fills but Im at 5.5 cc's. Your doc isnt filling you quite enough. I was where you are at 2 fills. I remember eating what I wanted most of the time. Now, that I have the 5.5 in there...I feel restriction! Am I losing weight quicker? NOPE! Its a very slow porcess for me...VERY! But I have no other choice. I guess I eat somewhere around 1000 cals and workout hard. You would think I would drop weight like crazy but Im not. I wear a size 14. I started at an 18. Dont get discouraged. Sometimes we just need to ride the wave. Eat as well as you can, work out and forget the rest. When reading about the lapband...professional sites say to expect 1-2 lbs a week and expect a full year in order to reach your goal wiehgt. With 52 weeks in a year ...thats about right. I know its painstakingly slow...I know! But you will get there. You need to be filled more. You will see a restriction difference then. Maybe the scale will move quicker and maybe it wont but at least you know you are doing your part. Please keep us posted!!!!

    Fish Oil

Simple answer.... just snip the tip off and put the oil on your food. Its tasteless and you still get the oil.
  23. I wasnt sure what you were trying to say...did you have fluid taken out of the band? Im able to eat mostly anything and I have had 2 fills. Im still waiting to feel good restriction. I HAVE had times when I felt discomfort and I wait 20 minutes for it to pass.... then Im able to eat a whole plate of food. How many fills have you had? What did the doc say?

    question for all post-opers

Its been 2 month and 2 fills later. I just recently started losing weight. Its only been 3 pounds but Im happy with that. My question is this: Until my second fill I could eat whatever I wanted with no porbs. After this 2nd fill....sometimes I eat a few bites and I feel it getting stuck, it hurts and IM done. Other times I eat normally. I never know what its going to be. Last night my family went out to dinner. I ate 2 bites of fish and spinach and drank a gulp of water and ....blah. I sat there for 20 minutes trying not to throw up and then it passed. I was able to eat small portions of my meal and everything was fine. I was drinking water while eating. What is the deal? Does anyone have suggestions of how to NOT have food get stuck? I know to eat slowly ( I dont have a choice in that) and I know I cant do heavy carbs. Just wondering if anyone has found something that works for them. Its so embarrassing to having that feeling when you are out to eat.
  25. kelly111

    Restriction...nope not yet.

I feel the same too. I felt no restriction after my first fill. Now Im on my second fill and I feel a little bit. I still pretty much eat whatever I want... just slightly less. I still feel like Im just "dieting" as opposed to the band creating a sense of fullness. Im trusting this process. Doc says that after the 3rd fill I should be in a good place. As of now, 2 plus months after surgery I have only lost 2 pounds. I knew it would be slow.... but my goodness!
