Had the band for many years. Getting stuck is probably the most uncomfortable feeling you'll ever feel, other than sliming... Most of the time the two go together. What I felt was serious pressure in my upper chest, and I could barely speak because the pressure in my esophagus. I can't remember what I was eating when I first got stuck. I'm going to guess something with bread. After I got real restriction, I stopped bread completely. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

I had that the first few days. I also had some thick phlegm that I had to work hard it get it out. I thought it was hella strange too since I wasn't sick at all. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

My plan says I have to be on full liquids for 3 weeks, so I know I couldn't. I love sardines too. If your plan says pureed foods on the 2nd week, maybe it would be okay if you pureed them. I would call your doctor to be safe. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

PreOp eating everything in sight?
Sai replied to Havasumoma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I relate. I was unfilled to prepare for a band to sleeve revision. I tried to shake this mentality but failed lol. I put on 20+ lbs in a matter of 5 months. I felt so out of control that when it was time for my Pre-op diet, I felt relieved to end the madness. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App -
Omgosh, I didn't mean you at all. I'm so sorry that you took it that way. I meant the doctor, not you. I also responded after I refreshed the thread and saw you put some more facts (i.e. it's an insurance issue).

September 2016 Post VSG Updates
Sai replied to Shell Renewed's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ah, nice post. Thank you for checking up on us! hehe I'm feeling good. I was sleeved on the 2nd so I'm on day 8. I checked in at 5 am, surgery at 7 and released at 4 pm, band to sleeve revision done as outpatient. The first day was really hard, I felt dizzy and weak, incision pain...etc. Day 2, I mainly slept all day, and after that it's been great. I almost feel like I didn't have the surgery (except for the soreness of the incisions). I have no issues drinking Water, I feel like I could gulp it but I don't. My Protein shakes are going down smoothly, although at first I didn't have much of an appetite, averaging ~464 cal/day. I drank 64 oz+ water today with no issues. The first 2-3 days I took the pain and nausea meds because I'm prone to motion sickness so luckily I never felt nauseous. I lived on Gas-X strips to relieve that darn gas pain. Now I'm just taking my antacid twice a day. Again, ty for your post and checking up on us! -
Dr. Fass and inverted gastric sleeve
Sai replied to twins2016's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I think you're right. There isn't any difference from the research I did concerning the inverted technique. Almost all sleeves are done this way now. Just a marketing thingymajig, I guess hehe. I had my sleeve done by Dr. Holden on Sept. 2, 2016, but I remember months ago doing the research on the "inverted" technique. -
How many calories do you get in a day?
Sai replied to ajg91342's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Eight days out and am averaging 484 calories/day. Before that I had the lap band for ~7 years and averaged about 1400 cal/day, lost ~129 lbs (before my unfill to prepare for sleeve). -
Ah, just refresh and saw this. It's an insurance problem. Perhaps your doctor can list any health problems that you are having to convince them? That's what my doctor did after they refused.

Sounds crooked to me... Sorry. If you're underweight naturally, I don't understand the need to have WLS. Are we missing some facts?

A really good one is GENEPRO. It mixes in both hot and cold. One tablespoon = 30g of protein. It's a medical grade protein separated by electrophoresis (and perhaps some column chromatography). Sorry if I"m being a nerd, I'm a chemist lol. Anyway, the stuff is awesome.

A week before surgery I had these prescriptions to fill for when I returned home: hydrocodon acetamin (pain), famotidine (antacid), ondansetron (nausea), and hyoscyamine (muscle relaxer). All optional except the antacid. Having said that, I found my own otc Gas X, maximum strength strips my life saver One liquid, two small pills, and one orally disintegrating. No crushing necessary. Questions about after you have the gastric sleeve
Sai replied to mindi melissa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unfortunately no, lots of factors: Age, genes (skin elasticity), diet, exercise... Etc. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App -
I got the lap band in 2009, and was successful in that I lost 129 lbs with it within the 18 mo. time frame and kept the majority of it off for many years. In April of this year, I felt I better go in and get a check-up to make sure everything is in order because I felt like I was hungry more often. The new doctor felt it was time for me to do a sleeve revision, told me that I have a dilated pouch. I had that once before years ago, and had to go 3 months with only half my Fluid to let my esophagus "rest". I dreaded to be unfilled again because I always gained some weight back, and I had to work twice as hard to get it off again. I couldn't talk them into not unfilling me hehe, so I said I'll go for the revision. I had my revision on Sept. 2, 2016, and am thrilled at the way I feel. No slimming, no painful pressure in the center of my chest... All those things one gets used to having the band all those years. I love it, and although I'm hungry during the liquid phase, it's not that bad at all. Lost 11 lbs in the last couple of weeks but I am prepared for the slower pace. As long as I'm losing, I'm happy with that. Good luck all, and hope you are as happy (or will be as happy) as I am with my new sleeve.

Told only my mom about my lap band back in 2009 and the recent revision to sleeve, but I'm private by nature. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

At what stage is nicotine tested? I am a smoker and plan to quit like yesterday. I know how bad it is and the problems it can cause with surgery so I am working on quitting now. I will meet with my surgeon next month for the first time and probably won't have the sleeve until Dec or Jan. When is it tested? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I was tested at the very end, at the pre-op blood, urine work and chest x-ray stage. For me, the pre-op appointment had to be within 3 weeks of the surgery date.

Can not stop losing weight.... Help
Sai replied to Scottyd1264's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like a tough situation to be in... To not be hungry and yet have to force yourself to eat. I'm 6 days post op and also a lap band to sleeve conversion. I kept most of my lap band weight off before they unfilled my band to prep me for the sleeve. I don't have 165 lbs to lose like I did before the band, and wondered if I'd be in the same predicament some day. Perhaps load up on sliders, which are high calorie foods before your protein? For those who need to lose weight, I know if you eat your protein first, you get full fast, so the opposite may help you gain weight. -
Finally got my band to sleeve revision done. It was yesterday. First 3 hours was bad. Incision pain, general nausea, gas pains. After that I could walk and the pain subsided. Although nauseous, I tolerated Water well, and I never slimed (like I did with my lap band) and haven't thrown up yet. The first two walks, I got dizzy. That went away today. My surgery was done at 7 am, and I was released the same day at 4 pm. I was first in. I'm not hungry at all. Today, on my 2nd day I was able finished 32 oz with 1 scoop Bariclear, going to make a new one to try to get 64 oz but don't think I'll be able to get that down by the end of the day. So I see I have 7 incisions. I had like 4 for my lapband. How many did they put in you? Thanks!

How much should I be able to eat
Sai replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got off the phone with my nurse who asked my surgeon how much my stomach will hold after the sleeve, and she responded with 6-8 ounces (so MTV = 177ml to 236 ml for my sleeve). Hope this helps. -
I had my band to sleeve revision done on the 2nd. First thing I asked when I woke up was if it was successful since it was being done in one operation vs two. When I heard "yes", I was ecstatic. I'm happy and excited for you! I'm like on post day 7, I believe and well, it's been wonderful vs my first week with the band. That is awesome!! How's your recovery going?First day was a little rough, but after I got home that evening, it was smooth sailing. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App That's good. I hope my recovery is just as good.I hope so too. I believe it will be . Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
