Just make sure you are drinking your 64oz+ water, and you should be fine . I had my revision to sleeve on Sept. 2, and I'm 26 lbs. down. I am a bit surprised because I've had the band since 2009 and expected a slower weight loss since it was a relatively successful band.
-
Yay. Congrats! I had my band in 2009 too. I went through something very similar. It worked and it helped so much but it was a pain to find and re-find my sweet spot, being unfilled due to being too tight, and being filled too much.. etc. I just had my revision to sleeve on Sept. 9, 2016. I love it.

I love Red Lobster, I was there for lunch today. I'm on the soft food stage so this time I ordered the 4 oz blackened catfish with a cup of lobster bisque. I've been in the habit of telling them at the time of ordering, to box half and serve half. Restaurants are pretty good about that.

Can we please talk about Starvation Mode for a minute?
Sai replied to DeletedMember's topic in Rants & Raves
I've said it before, but I think the surgery changes everything, so we aren't the "norm". I truly believe it changes our physiology. Like @@JamieLogical said, I have observed differently after being on these boards for almost 2.5 years. I have also observed the opposite with myself. Every time I stalled, increasing my calories would break the stall, and I would actually start losing again more consistently. I was at 1100 by the time I hit maintenance, and now maintain on 1300 calories. Anything over 1300 I gain. First off, great topic. ^^ Since my lap band in 09 to sleeve revision, other than when I first got out of the hospital(s) (big stall first 10 days due to IV Water retention), I haven't experience stalls because like @@Babbs I increased my calories when I enter one. Now of course, if I fall off the wagon (lap band days) due to improper fill, I'd gain weight but when I'm on program, that's been my experience too. I know everybody is different, but this works for me. Since we're on the subject, I used to watch food contests videos and always wondered how the heck do they eat so much and stay skinny? grrr Almost all of them think like this: If anything, it's an interesting watch. -
Fresh juice suggestion please
Sai replied to bubblegirl96's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the reply If that is the case then what else shall i have instead of fresh juice ? Because I'm only having chicken broth , Water and juice Are you drinking Protein shakes? I was told I could blend a 1/2 frozen banana or a few seedless-types of fruits in my shakes. -
Sleeved 9/19 - calories question?
Sai replied to quirkhorse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
26 days post op, averaging between 600-800. First week was lower. Congratz on your surgery! -
I'm in between the two other responses hehe. Both are solid advice. To me, IF you get unfilled again (sounds like you have to. I've been there a couple of times /cry) and you put on say 30-40 lbs, go for revision cause you have to let your esophagus and stomach take a 4-6 month break anyway before they do the revision. They won't do a revision when your stomach is abnormal. Once you get your revision, you'll take those 30-40 lbs off and keep it off since you already know how to work with your current WLS. However, I do understand the worry of going underweight. One thing more scary than being overweight is being underweight. I've seen a few that keeps losing, way past their goal. Frightening to me....

What do you wish someone had told you BEFORE your surgery?
Sai replied to switch2lose's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
1) That a swollen stomach, a healing stomach, excess acid in my stomach would mimic hunger feelings. I was so hungry the first week or so and wondered why, but at day 16 or so, my appetite dropped off. 2) That gallstones/gallbladder disease are very common after sleeve surgery. One study showed 23% of us... I just hope I don't have go under the knife again to remove my gallbladder. However, having said this, even if I knew these things, I'd do the sleeve all over again. I love hummus. I recently found a great black bean hummus recipe, and it's yummy. I make little baked cheese crisps and dip them in it. Recipes: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/13930/black-bean-hummus/ http://www.joyfulabode.com/low-carb-snacks-homemade-baked-cheese-crisps-recipe/

Did u go through this? How do u feel. Are you able to eat? I'm so scared of hairloss too... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App No, I haven't but I have seen and talked to a lot of people who has gone through it. When I went to my check up at my bariatric center, I spoke to one girl who said she cried every day since her revision, poor thing . Yeah, I'm worried about hairloss too. I didn't go through it with my band because the weightloss wasn't as drastic, a normal 2-3 lbs a week or slower... So I'm a little worried this time around because our calories are sooo much lower.I have only loss 15 pounds in six weeks so my weightloss is not to drastic but they said it would happen because of the stomach hormones loss. Yea I cry alot and I don't know what to do to make it better. How far was the girl in the group post op? I don't know why this is so hard. Thanks for listening Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App No problem at all. Anytime. I didn't know about the hormones and hair, I only knew about the Vitamin deficiency and too fast weight loss by being anorexic when I was young. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App Neon anorexia?? Yea they say at 2 yrs a person with a sleeve should be able to get enough Vitamins through there food. Yea I try really hard with vitamins .. I even take extra Biotin for my hair 20,000 mcg a day plus b12 plus zinc.. zinc is a hair vitamin... but u have to be careful if u get to much u could get sick. I even bought nioxion shampoos to help with the loss. I am blonde and don't have tons of hair so who knows how much I will have.. they say it starts at 3 to 4 months. I myself am already shedding a little more than normal.. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App Neon was because my stupid autocorrect, which is never correct lol. I edited it... Hehe I'm on biotin too and you're right, too much is often not a good thing. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App I had bulimia for years.. I think I'm scared to because I want another baby and im worried how much this is all taking a toll on my body with my first son I had gestational diabetes and other things so I wanted to be healthy Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App I met a lot of bulemics at OA meetings back in the day. After my anorexia, I swapped seats on the titanic and gained 100 lbs. So I still value OA meetings online from time to time since I have a tendency to switch back and forth. Well, I think you did the right thing. Being overweight is just too risky for us. I'm happy that at least you don't have any serious issues with your sleeve. The risk factors are so low now since it's become a common surgery, thank goodness. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

*hugs* Change is often scary, and since I have issues with food as well, I can understand that. For me, food has always been my comforter. I still go to online OA meetings from time to time to find emotional support since I haven't told anyone about my surgeries either. I've thought of seeing a therapist just to make sure I maintain my inner peace, but although I've been carrying the name around since surgery, I haven't called yet. Mainly cause sometimes it can be expensive, depending upon my insurance. I did watch a neat video the other day where a Dr. did a quick video on how the Sleeve is the most natural of all WLS, and it was calming. If you'd like me to post it, let me know. Either way, we're here for you too. Thank you. I havent seen any videos like that and like I said my dr made it seem like u will be normal just everything is in small portion. I have some regrets and have decided to see a therapist I am on an emotional Rollercoaster. I cry I'm frustrated and I am still trying to enjoy life. I know people say the hardest is day one through 6 months but at this point I'm not sure what to think. I am not trying to be a debbie downer or anything like that because I am usually pretty peppy and out going but lately I'm just . Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App Nah, not a debbie downer, I see a lot of people like that here and you're just going through real emotions, which is totally normal. I'm glad you're going to see a therapist. I'm still debating but I know in my younger days, it helped me learn some good coping skills. Here is the link to that video. It may be boring or you already know all this but some reason I really enjoyed it. I loved his gastric sleeve book too. I just read that recently. https://www.facebook.com/thesupportsurgeon/videos/629921133836325/?hc_ref=PAGES_TIMELINE

I've been into homemade milk kefir for years (excellent natural probiotic source), and I like have a little of that with some blueberries or another type of fruit. If one has never tried it, it's like a drinkable yogurt, a little more sour though.
-
I eat spicy foods (really really spicy hehe). I like sour and spicy stuff, and don't care for anything sweet. I have no issue with it at all. My surgeon said that's fine as long as I can tolerate it too, so whew. I do take famotidine 20mg twice a day as per my surgeon.

I like Genepro. Been using it for a long time as practically my sole protein source, mixes with everything. My labs came out great (i.e. Total serum, Albumin/Globulin) every time so I keep using it. In the past, I have written the company to ask for some data on a particular lot I bought but to no avail. As I said in a prior thread, maybe they just don't want to give out any hints of their purification process. I can understand that since their product is quite different than most protein sources out there. I use it when what I naturally eat that day doesn't hit my protein mark, it comes quite handy (soups, drinks, hot or cold). Nature's best Isopure (lots of other companies as well) was part of a class action suit for protein spiking and misrepresenting the concentration of their protein. Personally, I never tried the unflavored, so I wouldn't know about the miscibility aspect of it.

Check the color of your urine, if it's too dark, then you're dehydrated. There are color charts on the net that may help you out. Dry mouth, confusion, headache, irritability, being tired are some symptoms. I have problems sometimes because I have to take water pills due to an existing edema problem so I have to drink tons now to make up for that. I wish you well, please go to the ER if you do find it hard to think or you develop some of the severe symptoms. Dehydration can put your kidneys and health at risk.

Yeah, I thought about that too but I went ahead and had the revision done. I was very attached to my band. I thought exactly what you posted when I thought of a revision surgery. I know someone who had the bypass around the same time as my band, and now they are twice as heavy. I initially went in for a fill since I've been traveling, working and moving, I hadn't seen a fill doctor for a couple of years since I was still doing well and losing with the level of Fluid I had. So when I finally made an appointment with my current bariatric center, just to check my fluid level, and maybe get more added, they suggested the revision, and an unfill right then due to an enlarged esophagus (Too tight again, 2nd time for me). Gasp! I wasn't a happy camper because I knew I was going to gain some weight back once they unfill me. No way, I just want a fill please. Um, no can do... Either rest my band for months again and get refilled & struggle to find that sweet spot again or rest my band and get a revision. That's why I opted for the revision so I wouldn't go through the weight gain-weight loss cycle again since I had a habit of being too tight. I was still working to get to goal again after my first enlarged esophagus episode. I almost didn't go through with it. I'm happy with the results, the physical sensation that I get from the sleeve vs the band when I eat, as well as the weight loss results so far. I'm 24 days post-op and I'm down 22 lbs, and it's been relatively easy staying on program. Haven't thrown up or slimed yet. I guess from the band all these years, I know when to stop. That familiar pressure in the back of our throat... Stop or else. ^^ But, having said that, It is all very new to me though so check back in a few months lol. Since you're at goal, does your doctor still want you to have a revision, do you have issues with your band? Either way, hope it works out for you.
