Balloon Removed and Feelin' Fine! :-)

@@Wayward Traveler Thank you, it's been quite a journey for me, first the lap band (2009), then the lap band to sleeve revision (just 2 months ago). I have to have restriction (cry hehe) which is why you're exceptionally inspirational to me. Keep up the great work!

Balloon Removed and Feelin' Fine! :-)

Wow what a great post. Although I have the sleeve, I love hearing about all WLS, especially when it's the new kid on the block. Thank you! The fact that you kept on your program and continued to lose weight is truly an inspiration.
  3. I love pickles but every time I eat one. I temporarily gain 2 lbs the next day. I need to find some tasty low sodium ones. It's not the weight that bothers me but more why does my body DO that? grrrr

I had mild edema before surgery too, I would get swelling in my feet, ankles and calves quite a bit (especially after sitting for long periods of time). It has totally vanished, now. I think part of it was because I was chronically dehydrated due to all the Coke I was drinking, and probably other issues related to weight. But after dropping a bunch of weight, it has disappeared. So it may resolve itself over time. But yeah, salt just makes you swell up unless you also have enough potassium in your diet to help regulate the sodium intake, and potassium isn't something you can really supplement, it has to come primarily from food. Bananas and Broccoli! :)

    I have to tell!

Happy for you . I loved my lap band, and I love my sleeve. lol I guess I'm just thankful I was able to have WLS as an option as I know many can not. The same slider foods for the band are the same slider foods for the sleeve. Just giving you the heads up.
  5. I hate that you had a huge bruise -- but this is the quote of the week!! :-) @@blizair09 hehe, Luckily I only had to have one
  6. I only had one. It was right before surgery. The bruise was so large, it looked like the map of the Philippines. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  7. I had the band to sleeve revision by Dr. Bridget Holden in Colleyville, Texas. She was professional, straight forward and easy to ask questions. She removed the band and revised to a sleeve in an about an hour as outpatient. I was able to go home at 4 pm the same day. My recovery was incredibly easy after Day 1. I highly recommend her.
  8. Yeah, I wanted to say that I agree wholeheartedly with the others that say eating your Protein is better (over any supplements). I'm not a red meat type of person, my protein comes from fish and fresh vegetables but there are days that I run low on protein, and that's when a supplement comes in handy. I sure hope you find a supplement that works for you.
  9. I was allowed cream soup (solids must be strained out) as soon as I could tolerate it.
  10. @ The color of our urine should be a very light honey. There are urine color charts on the net. Dehydration is one of the most serious things, we as WLS patients should be aware of, so it's good you are worried about it. Here is a list of common symptoms to look for: http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/dehydration/basics/symptoms/con-20030056
  11. I've used GENEPRO for a long time. All my labs have been perfect. I use it in my kefir shakes and coffee. Sometimes I put it in Soup. I'm not going to go down that path again about the chemistry of Genepro (I'm a long time Protein purification chemist.) but I assure you that you PA wasn't wrong in recommending it.

    Sooo weird

Never had a issue drinking Water after day 1... Fast or slow. Easy recovery here, but that worried me... Felt like I didn't have the surgery. I am a band to sleeve revision so things may be a little different for comparison purposes. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    What soups?

Miso soup is one of my favorites. Can get a tub of Miso at Amazon (or an Asian grocery store), add a tablespoon to hot Water and sip away. Can add unflavored Protein protein to get extra protein in there.
  14. My program is a multi-Vitamin that contains 200% of daily value of most nutrients and 100% Iron, 1200-1800 mcg Calcium citrate, B-12 500 mcg daily or 2500 mcg weekly Optional for me since I wasn't low in any of these Vitamins (but I take them anyway): 2000-5000 IU Vit D 2-4 grams fish oil (I take krill oil). Every program is different though.
  15. I love these footed pajamas, they keep me very warm. They have flannel, fleece, jersey and plush. https://www.bigfeetpjs.com/pj-sleepwear/Adultfootedpjs.htm l love cuddle duds too. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  16. I never liked soda, before or after. I do like coffee, and I have a 10 ounce mug a day pre and post op, sometimes 2. The only thing my surgeon recommended was to slow down my intake a week before if I'm a heavy coffee drinker, but other than that, I was allowed to have it pre and post op if I wanted it.
  17. Not sure if you 're on a low carb diet or not but French onion soup with the cheese is fine since cheese has little or no carbs, and it has Protein. If you have some, perhaps bring a little unflavored Protein powder to mix it in to get some more protein.
  18. @@rolosmom7 ugh, so so sorry you had to go through another surgery so soon. I would speak to both surgeons, your wls surgeon and the one that did your latest surgery to see what they think. My best guess is I think due to the exigent circumstances, you should eat whatever you can keep down, and whatever helps your body get comfort and heal... Meaning, if for example, if peanut butter makes you feel better, eat peanut butter, regardless if it is or is not a weight loss food. You'll probably lose weight anyway since you are so restricted as it is. After you/re healthy, you can go back to dense proteins, low carb... etc. for your sleeve. But I stress again, I would call and talk to each of your surgeons to see what they recommend. Feel better soon!
  19. Great question. Through the years, I certainly know my trigger foods. As you said ads are everywhere. Even on fitday site where I log all my foods every day, there are fast food ads! grrrr So I use coping skills. For example, I'll practice a certain skill so I know how I'll respond to a specific trigger. A few of my favorite coping skills: 1) I reflect on the reasons why I want to recover from my eating addiction, and how far I've come. 2) Stepping away from the computer or the TV and go put ice in my Water bottle, taking a few deep breaths, stretching my arms, anything to distract me. If I'm with someone, I talk to them about anything other than food. 3) If it gets really bad, I do the delay tactic. I tell myself to just wait 15 min, drink a glass of water, and if I still want it, then I can but I never do. 4) Never get too hungry or too tired and put myself in a position to be emotionally weak.

    18 year old lapband concerns

I just recently had a revision to sleeve, but all my band scars are gone. I had the band back in 09 and they faded fast... And you're much younger so I don't think you have to worry about that at all. As far as drinking, I know some who enjoy a glass of wine from time to time. Although I don't drink, my band surgeon did not forbid it. It's best if you can ask your surgeon what he/she recommends regarding the drinking and the reflux. Some are strict, others are not. 21. I'm listening. This is great. btw, I loved lapbandtalk back in the day, and joined shortly after I got my lapband in 2009. I'm glad Alex made bariatricpal since we're all in the same boat together. ^^ I just recently got a revision. I agree that Alex is so accomplished.
  22. Only? That's 216 lbs/yr.... Good job though. ^^
  23. I see grazing as eating unneeded snacks after you've hit all your nutritional goals. Many vets still have to eat very small meals (every 2 or 3 hrs) from what I've read/heard. For myself, from the time I wake up until about 6 pm, I eat every 1-3 hrs to get my protein in.
  24. I was wondering the exact same thing. Besides the first 2 days it's been a complete breeze. I was able to drink all my fluids almost immediately. No pain meds. No GERD. I had surgery on a Monday morning and I was back at work that same Thursday even though I could have taken 2 weeks. I'm a month out and I'm eating solids right on schedule where as some people in my surgery group can't get past soups, apple sauce, etc. I also wonder if it helps that having the band had already trained me to eat slowly and chew everything to powder so I haven't had any issues with sliming or anything like that. I wonder that too. With a tight band, I usually couldn't drink for an hour so even up to now, I don't drink at all till one hour later unless I set a timer and make a point of it. Chewing till it's liquid is another habit we've learned lol. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
