  1. Before I had surgery, I trolled the Post OP pages to prepare the next few weeks post op. But most of the time, I just trolled and didn't post. I think the majority of pre ops do that. Others will make a post here and there. But honestly. Even when I read someone pre op now commenting on the post op, is it a big deal? I dont bitch that I lost 4 seconds of my life reading a pre op's comment.

    Any Long Island, NY Banders

I live in Howard Beach and my surgeon was Dr Vohra out of Hewlett. I actually just bought the Wii 2 weeks before surgery as well as the Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus, Wii Sports Resort and the board. The games will give you a light fun little workout. The Wii Board I wasnt able to use right away because it has a weight limit (I think 300 lbs). But it doesnt stop you from doing other exercises and games.
  3. Im a week Post Op and today I had some Egg Drop soup. No issues at all. Im not pushing it though. I'll stay on full liquids for another week, but have a bit of mush mixed in. Tommorow is some low fat ricotta cheese for me.
  4. Congrats to you :smile2: Me like an idiot, I took my before pics in a black shirt and jeans. I think it hid some of the creases that have disappeared the last month. For me, I cant believe how many people that tell me how much different my face looks. It went from puffy to now a hint of cheekbone lol. Im excited to see whats going to happen when I drop the 100.

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

I still have the same pain like you. How I manage it, is I put a pillow on my side. I slowly turn to my side which hurts like hell. But once I get to that spot, I find that the pain is so much less. That's as long as I dont move around.

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

Well I am now officially banded as of 10/7. Im on day 3 and I still have gas pains in the chest and bad pain where my Dr put the port. He put the port not really on top of my belly button, but more like 6-7" above it on my left side. I havent had any problems getting down liquids at all. The 40oz Isopure punch are great to sip on throughout the night. And the Gas-X strips are a huge help. Luckily Im able to sleep on one side. Its just getting to that spot without straining my stomach muscles is the challenge.

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

I have to be at the hospital at 10:30AM and surgery will be at Noon. Im still cool as a cucumber and not nervous. Ive been thinking more on how this is going to change my life than the actual surgery. It ends up my parents didnt spike my drinks  I live alone also, but Ive been staying by our beach house the last week prior to and a week after surgery. My dog is diabetic, so they are mostly watching him while I recoup.

    I cheated...

I did almost the very same thing. I started my Preop a month before surgery to get a head start. I went strict with 5 shakes daily for 2 weeks before surgery. By day 4, I was back having a light meal at night. Grilled chicken over salad day 5, grilled chicken sauteed with broccoli rabe the next night. I called my doctor and told him and he said I'll be ok. He said the biggest thing was that I didnt have any starches, no added fats, and no sugar. He knows I dropped 25 pounds the last 4 weeks so the light meal at night wasnt going to enlarge my liver again. But he would prefer I go shakes only the last 5 days. So dont worry about a steak one night. I think you dropping 20+ pounds shows that you've been doing just fine.

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

I know for some, you already know this. But I wanted to mention this to others that may not. Ive been on pain meds for a while stemming from a really bad auto accident. My primary doctor would not sign my release for surgery unless I stopped taking Ibuprofen. She said its a big no no and to stay off it a week before surgery. She prescribed me Vicodin instead for the week. And congrats to you Donna. I cant wait until I get mine.
  12. Anyone that wants to try it, buy the sample 10 pack from My Bariatric Pantry. Its $13 for 10 and they give you 10 different flavors. I didnt care for Fuzzy Navel that much. But the cherry was great. The green apple was good. The cappucino was ok. The point is, try them and if you really like a flavor, then buy the jug.

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

October 7th is my surgery date, and I did my pre surgical testing today. It's finally hitting me that Im having this done. One great thing about doing this preop diet the last month besides weight loss. My blood pressure went down to 130/80. Before the diet, it was 142/90. The hospital emphasized to wear loose clothes surgery date. I know it sounds obvious, but they told me many people show up in skin tight jeans. The hospital also said that they will have me walk in the hospital every 2 hours up to 2AM. Its mandatory, and she said almost every hospital will do this. And for everyone that cant handle just shakes. Take my advice and go to My Bariatric Pantry. They have Nectar samples that are sooooo good and the chicken soup is excellent. Even though Im supposed to have only 5 optifast shakes and nothing else, my doc ok'd the soup. It makes a world of difference. They ship fast too. I ordered on Friday, and received my stuff Wednesday.
  14. I have been on steroids the last 7 months, and I had gained almost 40 pounds. I was a carbohydrate junkie. Im not diabetic, but my sugar level had to be all out of wack. Even though Im supposed to still be on these steroids, I stopped taking it a month ago on my own. Carb cravings were gone in about two weeks. It helped a great deal because now being on the preop diet, I dont have any cravings for carbs. Im also convinced that being off these steroids helped me drop a bit more weight than I expected the last month.
  15. Maybe Im just thickheaded and do what I want to anyway  But here's my situation. Im going to be banded on 10/7. To get a heads start, I started Optifast Lite a month ago. 4 shakes and 1 light meal at dinnertime. I lost about 20 pounds. Now Im 2 weeks before surgery and my nutritionist wants me to do Optifast full. (5 Shakes and no light meal). However, I was told that the nutritionist advises Optifast full to everyone. Since I already lost 20 pounds this month, do you think it would make a major difference if I had the light meal every night? Ive stuck to grilled chicken or tuna with a salad and fat free dressing almost every day. Im just curious if anyone chose on their own to go Optifast light even though they were told Optifast full. Thanks for any feedback.
  16. Id love to know where you reside. Cause it certainly isnt from New York. And you are quite the obessive one about this topic. The media can do what they want about this. If they exploit the story, they are fools. But for you to think you understand our emotions and how personal it is to us, you are an idiot. One thing I got out of this rant and obsessive posting of yours is that shallow morons can get the Lapband too.
  17. My dog is diabetic and I have to give him fresh foods every day. Some days chicken, other days hamburger, potatoes, etc. He gets Chocolate (thats safe and made for dogs) and Dog Ice Cream as a treat after he gets his needles. Luckily I havent had the urge to raid his 'refrigerator' LOL

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

By now you already did your upper GI and Im sure like me you were like..."Thats all it was?" I didnt feel any pain and everything went well. And yes they found the Hiatial Hernia, which is repaired during surgery. As far as "Optifast Light", here's what they mean. 2 weeks of Optifast Light involves a shake for Breakfast and lunch, one for an in between snack, and a light dinner. It could be chicken and a salad, or even a Lean Cuisine. Im doing this now until the 23rd. Then its 2 weeks of Optifast. Nothing but Optifast  Five shakes a day. I plan on having another 1 or 2 shakes in between meals to make it about 7. Throw in sugar free Jello and broth. Nothing else. I asked about apples or even celery. They said nope. The Optifast 800 is the shakes I have. And I figured out why its called Optifast 800. They recommend 5 a day. At 160 calories each, that adds up to 800. At least I think thats what it means :bored: The chocolate is great, the vanilla is tolerable. I havent tried strawberry but Im ordering it this weekend. I see someone came up with Boo tiful Bandsters. Very clever. I originally thought the generic "pumpkin Patch" or the very derogatory "The Plump-Kin Patch" LOL
  19. Im going to donate everything except one pair of jeans or a suit. I want to make the biggest, baddest, fatest scarecrow in the neighboorhood. next Halloween

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

Add me to the list as my surgery is set for 10/7. Im doing the Optifast Light right now which is tolerable. I figured the steady switch to the all liquid 2 weeks pre-op would make it easier for me. So far, so good. Good luck to all of you.
  21. Thats right Im biased. Im a proud New Yorker that gives and gets respect. Im against shady people. Their silence speaks volumes. Im against kissing the asses of anyone to make a worldwide statement. Im a proud American. And Im against the building of that Mosque so close to the Towers. Im biased and damn proud of it. Anyone who doesnt like it can either respect my views, or kiss MY ass.
  22. That is the dumbest thing Ive read in a long time. Sure, buying a building to cover up their disrespect and shadyness. I realize very quickly that I need to stick to talking about the band and my surgery. Cause your comments are flat out feeble and ignorant.
  23. I live in NY and knew someone that died on 9/11 so I'll chime in with my biggest gripe. Not one Muslim of any authority has ever stepped up and stated.... 'out of respect to our fellow New Yorkers that lost loved ones and are still suffering, we'll move the planned Mosque further away from the Towers.' They are not acting like New Yorkers. They are not showing any respect or concern to fellow New Yorkers. If they moved it just a short distance away, it would have given their fellow New Yorkers an Olive Branch. But instead, all the unknowns, the past comments, the silence, and the shadyness just adds salt to the wounds of many. I am sick and tired of our Government always kissing the asses of the Muslim population and others abroad. There's always this idea that we have to 'show the world' we are a melting pot. People around the world should be kissing our asses. And the Muslims that live the United States should be the ones voicing their love and appreciation for the US to those abroad. There are many good people in NY that are Muslim. I have a few friends that are there for me always, and vice versa. And even they can't believe how cold the people are behind this Mosque. Even if they didn't agree with the thousands in NY that are suffering and affected by this, they should move it out of respect.

    High Tryglycerides

I take Triglide and Lovaza. They are both excellent as my levels went from 480 to 265 in a short period of time. Lovaza is a prescription form of Omega fish oils; you take 4 giant liquicaps a day. (Obviously once banded, that aint happening lol) Triglide is about the size of a round aspirin, just a tad wider. That I take once every night.
  25. Best of luck to both of you. I, like you are counting down and very anxious. It stinks for me though cause my countdown has to go another 43 days
