IDK Where you're going in Mexico for your surgery but this will be my fourth trip to Mexicali when I go on June 10th for my 11th surgery date and I've never felt unsafe or in a compromised position. Other cities, I cannot comment about since I've never been near/in them (Tijuana, Monterrey, etc) - but I specifically avoided those. But there are others here that have many many trips to doc in those towns as well and never had an issue. You will be FINE!! Honestly, South East Chicago scares me more than my trips to Mexico.... lol

My surgeon's #'s are even higher. His patients lose over 90% of their excess weight.

I will be there the 10th-14th so we will be just missing each other! You won't regret it. Dr. A did my band surgery and I've been back down there twice since then. My revision surgery will be my 4th trip to Mexicali. I am 6'2" and blonde, so you can't miss me - if you see me in the hallway holler at me!

forgot to add - including my initial surgery I've made 3 trips down to Mexicali. Never once felt unsafe or threatened. Ernesto is the sheit!

You've made a great decision with Dr. A - you will not regret it. I was banded by him back in Feb of last year. Due to a incompetent fill "doctor" that was doing my post-op care and fills, I've never been able to utilize my band, so I will be going back next month (I think June 11th) for my revision to the VSG. I was supposed to go next weekend but had to delay it due to work obligations. Have you been on his Yahoo mssg board?

SO GREAT To hear!! Please keep up updated on your progress!! And Andy I agree, I wish I could of afforded to have the Sleeve my first surgery instead of going with the band....my issues weren't the same as yours but still issues that I won't have to worry about with my sleeve. CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't even of stayed on the phone long enough to hear more of her ignorance be displayed. How tacky and unprofessional. Do NOT let someone as uninformed and ignorant as that woman lead you to make a decision not to change the rest of your life!! Be confident in yourself and your research. I remember when I told friends I was going to Mexico and they responded in the same way - I countered to them, "do you really think that little of me that I would dive head first into a major surgery like this without doing hours and HOURS of research on my facility and my surgeon and how that will affect me?!" - It's insulting!! Keep on with your goals and dreams girl - we are all here for you!!

One of my surgery-buddies was 20. She was only about 30-45 lbs overweight, but her family is all obese and has diabetes, etc. She was doing it for preventative reasons. SO don't blame her. She looks amazing now!! She was very pretty before anyways. If I could of gotten sleeved back when I was 17-18 I wouldn't of hesitated for a second. It would of spared me a lot of pain and heartache and stress.

I will fourth (or 5th?!) the replies already for Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. mexicalibariatrics.com I believe is the website. I had my band Feb 2011 and am going back for my revision May of this year. Cannot say enough good about my surgery experience (and subsequent 2 other Mexicali trips post-op). I believe his Sleeve price is around $9k plus whatever your airfare would be. After my care in Mexicali I am completely biased towards American doctors and facilities now!!!
