  1. I had 100 grams of grilled Barumundi Fish marinated in soy sauce and lime juice and a small tossed salad with balsamic vinaigrette.
  2. Buy chewable ones, ask at the pharmacy.
  3. Yesterday was a great day. I got into a pair of jeans (stretch) that wouldn't fit 5 weeks ago and my son told me how good i looked. Today - it all started with an argument with my husband. I told him he looked scruffy and needed a haircut & beard trim, he got offended and said "how would you like me to tell you that you look fat". I heard, "you look fat". Then we went into the city and i ate some candy and as we walked back to the car i caught a glimpse of myself in a store window. I might be feeling thinner but i don't look it, not today anyway.I have my first post op visit on Tuesday and was hoping to have lost in total 20 kilos but i am still 1 1/2 kl off the mark. Oh well, i suppose tomorrow is another day!
  4. My sister is 2 years out from having Bypass and has lost an amazing 60 kilo and still loosing. Even so i would not have it done and chose the band. I get a little jealous at times because she can eat more things and if she is bad she just gets the runs and never puts weight back on. But, she has a lot of excess skin now and is constantly anaemic, she has just had to have a hip replacement and needed lots of blood because her levels were so low. She didnt like the idea of a band inside her, i didnt like the idea of not being able to reverse the procedure if, like her, my health was suffering. I actually would have gotten the band about 5 years ago if my sister had not been so against it, then she went and did the bypass.
  5. My husband went on the pre op diet with me and is continuing to keep his portions down so between the two of us our food bill has dropped by about $75A a week. We had roast pork a few nights ago and would usually only have enough meat left for sandwiches the next day, well we got two evening meals for 4 and one lunch and i fed almost half of it to the dog this morning. A chicken does 2 meals now and i am not buying my lunch at work. Saving money is a real unexpected bonus.

    Port: Where's yours?

I am 5 weeks post op and my port is buried deep within. I can not feel it at all but my surgeon says it is half way between my belly button and sternum. I was not given a choice of where it went.
  7. Just had lunch - minced chicken cooked with Taco seasoning - rolled in mountain bread with low fat tzatziki sauce and shredded lettuce.Yum. About 200-250 calories.

    Grouchy pouch

I am 5 weeks post op and still get those days. Gurgles and spasms. Like the term Grouchy Pouch, it is a good way to describe it.
  9. It is 7.30am Saturday here in Adelaide, i just had breakfast - 2 corn cakes with cottage cheese.(this is usually lunch but couldn't be bothered cooking eggs this morning) Now hanging out for my half hour to be up so i can have a coffee.
  10. I live in Adelaide , South Australia. I have a back ground in nursing but am now an Intake officer for aged care services - accept referrals for community services and aged care assessments. I am also a Mum to 3 teenagers.
  11. I have taken Elfiepoo's advise and upped my calories a bit and have started to loose again - about 1.5 kilo this week. Last night i was really hungry and for the first time i ate until i was full - fish and about 1/2 a cup of vegies - but still wanted to eat more. This happened all the time before my band, i would be really full but still wanted to eat more, i am concerned it has started again. I hope i get a fill on the 5th, not sure if i will or not. Tonight we went out to dinner and i had a small serve of risotto - not the best choice but i am still supposed to be on soft foods. I didn't over eat but am still feeling full 3 hours later. I will need to go for a really long walk tomorrow, just as well we are set for a nice day. We have a long week end with a forecast for warm clear weather so i am looking forward to lots of outdoor activities.
  12. I would suggest you get your iron levels, including iron stores checked. My sister had Gastric Bypass and suddenly lost all energy and that was her problem. More of a risk with GB than the band though.
  13. bbammom, My kids are on holidays but i'm not. Went for a walk at lunch time today to avoid the lunch time work talk but the biggest offender decided to walk with me, it was good though cause i walked faster so she had to breath instead of talk , so got a good brisk 20 minutes in. My daughter loves hiking through the bush, don't know whether i'm up to that yet. Good to see another August 30 bander at the same stage as us. I wore a shirt to work today that i have never been able to do up before. Hooray! Little by little we will reach our goals. Welcome lml398. I have only lost 5 kilo post op and the scales haven't moved for a couple of weeks now but people are starting to comment so i must be loosing inches, from other posts that seems to be something that happens - a mystery as to why the inches disappear while the weight stays stable at times.
  14. The sun came out on Sunday so i grabbed the kids (14 & 16) and headed to the Zoo to see the Pandas. We walked around for 4 hours and i barely needed to sit and rest which is amazing because 8 weeks ago i would have been in pain with my back after 10 minutes. So i am really feeling the benefits of the weight i have already lost which is 17 kilo (37.5 Lbs) The scales reflected my efforts yesterday but have gone back up today. It is very frustrating. And yes i am still weighing daily, cant help it. 60 lbs is a great weight loss, cant wait to get to that figure. My foot is sore again now but i will need to ignore it and try and go for a walk again after work tonight, it will be much easier when daylight saving kicks in and it warms up a bit. We just need to be strong and patient till will get our fills. Enjoy your day. Yes post op exercise program is included in the co payment - six classes in total and then i think you can pay to continue and that can include water exercises i believe, but that is with another hospital that has teamed up with my group. They also have a support group but i wasn't able to get to the last one which would have been my first meeting.

    is ibuprofen ok?

My post op instructions read -Regular 4 hourly Panadol on its own or combined with an anti-inflammatory such as Nurofen (Ibuprofen) is generally adequate for post op pain. I took it for several days and recently for a sore foot - no issues.
  16. It is cold and wet and miserable here. It does not encourage me to get out but i try to force myself. Now that my foot is better i will definitely go for a walk to today. I have been parking my car as far away from the office as i can so i get a little extra exercise morning and evening. My surgeon does post op exercise classes and i will be booked in for those at my next appointment. I also see the Dietician again on the 5th October so will be able to discuss what i should and shouldn't eat. Right now i am going to have my breakfast shake. I am on antibiotics because one of my incision sites just wont heal up and i think that is adding to my rumbling stomach. I will have some yogurt at lunch and see if that helps. I can not resist weighing each morning but should follow your lead and only weigh once a week. My weight is still holding steady. Have a great day and enjoy the sunshine.
  17. Well done on your weight loss.I have no idea if i will get a fill when i see the surgeon, i'll find out on the day i suppose but it is only a short appointment i think. I have been on protein shakes for breakfast and specially designed frozen Band meals for lunch and Tea. I am now starting meals with puree meat - which seems odd because the meat in the band meals is not pureed. So soft meats and well cooked vegies i think. Recommended to keep to around 500g of solid food per day and drink 1.5litres of fluid. I will try to stick to 700 to 900 Calories daily. I try to walk daily but have had a sore foot so have been restricted for a few days. I need to loose at least another 60lbs.
  18. I was banded same day as you. I have good and bad days. Today i am not hungry but my stomach is rumbling and i feel the need to eat. Yesterday i felt hungry most of the day, eating only kept me happy for short periods. I lost about 26 lbs (12 kl) pre op but have only lost about 10 lb (5 kl) post op and the scales seem to have come to a stand still. I believe this is quite normal though and something most people struggle with until they start getting fills. I dont see my surgeon until Oct 5th as well. My biggest challenge is chocolate is calling out to me, i crave sugar. Strange because i have been off it for nearly 9 weeks now. Oh well, have a glass of water and go for a walk and then it will be time to cook dinner.

    Flying to Japan

I once took a packet of potato crisps on a flight from Hong Kong to Australia. The packet swelled so much due to the cabin pressure that i was sure it was going to explode, i think this is the concern with the band, that it will swell, not explode though. As for the Tylenol i think the airlines are strict on the amount of liquids you can take. Maybe you can put some into a smaller container to see you through the flight. Have a great trip.

I don't think I took the easy way out!

I don't think there is any easy way to loose weight and to then keep it off. But if there was an easy way why wouldn't you choose it. The ultimate goal is to be healthy and wouldn't any one with a brain choose the easiest path to reach that goal? The band helps us to make good decisions about what and how much we eat. But it is still up to us! Be proud of what you are achieving.

    Week 2-3 Ideas?

I made potato soup and put it through the blender ( not too thick) and i bought some chicken soup and put that through the blender before heating. Surgeons nurse suggested this.It kept me happy.
  22. I am 3 weeks post op and although i felt like i could eat anything i tried to be very selective about what i consumed. Slowly i was starting to increase the amount though. That was until Saturday when i got a really severe pain that lasted 5 hours and happened again on Sunday. As i had not had anything but my shake on Sunday when the pain hit i realized it was the vitaminD tablet i took with it that was getting stuck. This has scared me and i have gone back to fluids but will try soft food again tonight. What this has told me though is to be cautious, because if a little egg shaped pill can get stuck, if i eat too much or the wrong thing i could be in big trouble. Unsure if i have any fluid in my band, I am not due to see the surgeon for another two weeks.
  23. I am 3 weeks post op and my weight has not changed for 5 days. I am consuming between 700 - 900 calories daily and have been walking most days. Yesterday i had pain so only had fluids, about 2 litres in total but only had to pee a couple of times. I usually have to get up during the night and didnt even need to do that. I drink my quota of fluid most days but have notice a slow down in output for the last few days really. Normally i would eat some celery as it is a natural diuretic but i cant eat that. Maybe i will try a cup tea today. I dont like tea much though. Any other suggestions.

    I told my husband

I didnt want my husband and especially my children to know my weight, so i didnt even know. I would not use the scales because it has a save function and you can check what the previous weight was. I didnt weigh myself for about 2 years and put on a lot of weight in that time. When i started all this i decided i had no choice and jumped on the scales and nearly had a heart attack i had gained so much. Hubby also hopped on and had also gained heaps so then i told him my weight, he was fine and even went on the pre op diet with me.
