  1. Hi all, I've been banded for almost 4 weeks and I really have some questions that most on youtube cant seem to answer! I've read that some of you have had restriction right off the bat... My band seems very tight, it only allows me to eat almost 1/2 cup of food (I'm on the last week of mushy/soft foods), I have zero hunger and have actually had a hard time adjusting to not feeling hunger! So what I'm wondering is if those of you who have had a similar experience could tell me, is it possible i'm still healing (even though I'm a very quick healer) or could it be that I have restriction from the start. Yes, I'm kinda asking for a crystal ball prediction, but its just so hard to find others with the same experience In the mornings it is so tight I can only have a Protein shake over 2 hours. I thought I would be brave this morning and try some well soaked quinoa puffs, after 3 teaspoons I was completely full and had to walk around as it wasn't sitting right !:cursing: Can anyone encourage me with similar stories? Please?? Thanks, Rach. Urban Wasteland

Need help from +4 week bandsters please :)

Thanks guys Yeah, I forgot to mention I have 3cc baseline in my band and I have the APS (small 10ml) one. Luckily I exercise an hour a day so all is going well.... I think just not being able to get enough fibre in is bringing me down a little - the fibre substitutes just dont work right with me. I'm 44lbs (20kg) down now which is awesome (4 weeks post op & 3 weeks pre-op) Rach. Urban Wasteland

  4. I'm sure you were told the liquid diet before surgery is to lower the glycogen levels in the liver. The more fat around the liver, the more chance there is of nicking it which leads to a lot of bleeding and complications. Most Australiasian surgeons will stick to the 2 weeks liquid after surgery so you have a greater chance of your stomach healing fully - less contractions of the stomach - less movement, higher chance of safe healing and bedding in of the band. Then 2 weeks mushies, 2 weeks soft food for the same reasons.... I hope scrambled eggs are considered regular diet - I am so getting addicted to eggs & cottage cheese :cursing: Rach. Urban Wasteland

How often do you weigh yourself

How often do you weigh yourself

Wow guys !! Now I feel like a freak I weigh once a week and resist all temptation to weigh in between. I had a disorder in my teens and now know that if I only weigh once a week I have to keep to my eating and exercise in order to not mess up that number ! - Although almost 3 weeks post-op I still have no hunger so I may be lucky in that regard...

    Should I tell my employer

I agree ! I went back to work after 8 days and have to have another 2 off after that ! Normally I bounce back very well from accidents or surgeries... not this one! I was incredibly tired and the lack of calories made constant standing & thinking unbearable (I'm a Chef...) Good luck

    Curious

Hi :cursing: There are a considerable amount of people over on YouTube who have or are going through losing this amount of weight loss... Good luck ! Rach.
  10. Hi Guys, My name's Rachel but on YouTube I'm TheUrbanWasteland so I thought I'd register with that name ! I've been banded one week today !! My Surgeon was Steven Kelly from INTUS in Christchurch NZ and he rocks !!! I had an Allergan APS (small 10ml) band with a low profile port & today is the first day I havent felt any pain from the port site so...YAY !!! I have complete restriction still with a few small sips of protein drink I'm stuffed, but i realise this may be short lived! Lost to Date; 14.8kg or 32.5lbs 29 July 110.9kg (243.9lbs) 1 WEEK POST-OP (-2.1kg - 4.6lbs) I've been reading so many of the posts here.... and I'm still surprised when some say they havent told anyone :cursing: I'm a loudmouth and told everyone possible. Aside from one sister who couldnt understand why I needed help to lose half my body weight (!!!) everyone has been super nice & supportive! Those who dont know what it is, I educate them - those who do, all want to know the gory details !!! But I live in a very small town so my experience will be different to others ! Anyway, If you want to catch up with me, my blog is here; http://urban-wasteland.com Rach xxxxx:thumbup:

1 week Post OP Loudmouth :D

Thanks :cursing: Yes, that's a good point, New Zealand society is errr... how do i put this?? Fairly permissive !!! I had almost no gas pain at all which is lucky cos i saw all the horror stories ! As soon as I felt a dull ache, I got up, walked around & put my arms over my head... no pain there  Luckily I was prescribed codeine for the port pain, but that's pretty much over. All over, a pretty smooth experience. Weirdly, I cant burp at all and I can definately feel the band. Rach. Urban Wasteland
