    Stomach?

I had this problem until I stuck with what the doctor told me... Take your anti-acid meds first thing in the morning and wait AT LEAST 1 HOUR before eating anything !!! When I stuck to that exactly, no more acid Rach.

    strange feelings in tummy

I do have this pain too... with me as my hunger has been completely shut off, we are assuming it is when my stomach is empty! Its strange and I described it on my last Vlog as though my stomach is shrinking away from the band and pulling on the stitches!! A little dramatic, yes! but it really feels like that  I find it goes away if I drink Water also. Had a big tennis ball too ! But mine was accompanied by a 6 inch long bruise! I had a major blood clot under the skin. More than 5 weeks out and the swelling is just going down now.... Rach.

Congrats !!!! that is awesome I love my band sooo much !!! Why?? 'Cos I have no hunger, at 5 weeks out I have great restriction and I've lost 47.5lbs - 21.6kg and havent weighed in this week yet ! It rocks !:wub: Rach.

    Longest Bander?

That number is high, considering it is something like 3% in countries who have been doing it a lot longer (aust/nz for example)...

    Port protuding

I was wondering about this before surgery as I carry so much of my weight on my hips & but - less on my stomach. My surgeon is really good about these things and had both the regular & low profile port ready in my surgery. He put in the low profile port and I still cant find it !!! He had real trouble showing me where it was also  You can have it changed later if needed :scared2: Rach.

    9 months banded........not happy

I'm so sorry some of you have so many problems!! It really makes you wonder if the surgeons placement is accurate. As you know the band is supposed to sit on the Vegus nerve, and I wonder how many surgeons get this wrong?? I was actually talking to the psych about this today and she wondered the same thing. I really hope pulling some liquid out helps  Rach.

    Only eat 3x/day???

wow... I'm 5 weeks out and still no hunger at all... I find 3 meals a day more than enough (keeps me full4-5 hours) but I had head hunger around 5pm so now I have high protein cereal at 5... that makes 4 meals a day but the doc would rather that, than me snacking while cooking dinner for my dad !!

    The World's Healthiest Foods

Yep ! Since going Vege a while back I use Quinoa too, well I did when I could eat it! you can get the puffs, flakes and seeds, awesome stuff! I'll have to look if it lists Hemp Meal - its the highest plant Protein and really works well with soy flour in high protein baking  Rach.
  11. Hahaha even though I'm still not hungry, on the first week post op of liquids I wanted to rebel against sweet stuff!! Head hunger came up and demanded savoury food!!! Hope you can progress to mushies soon! Rach.

Your Goal Weight... How is it calculated?

I calculated mine based on bone size & BMI I have tiny bones so decided on a mid level for my frame size (60-65kg) which would be around 22bmi give or take. If I get down there and my top half is too bony, I'll stop when it feels right. Probably everyone needs to judge this for themselves  Rach.

    Banded & The Single Life

hmmmm I think I'd have more problem informing that I dont drink than telling about my lap-band!! I love telling people & have found so many people are fascinated ! I havent dated with the band yet, but I believe I would tell them straight out... it's part of me & I'm passionate about everything I do including this. Plus it a good way to truly judge character - watching a facial reaction tells me more than they can say  Rach.

    Words from the Wise

Congrats !! You guys are so lucky with insurance!! After I had finished saving for it I was so excited to finally get it done. No nerves at all, just excitement!! Apart from a slight recovery prob it all went super smooth and I'm sure yours will too  All the best ! Rach.
  16. Absolutely no Barium for me !! I could barely swallow Water and more than 4 weeks later I'm still very tight. In my surgeons defence, out of the high number of surgeries he has completed, his only one with complication turned out to be an infection from the band itself. He now gets all sizes out and personally sterilises them! He is so meticulous I trusted he knew what he was doing by not giving me a B.S. Plus I hate that stuff... had one 4 months before surgery due to throat lesions:huh2: Rach.

    Microwave eggs?

Yep, I use the microwave for eggs ! I put 2 small eggs, some rock salt & 45g of cottage cheese. I scramble them, 2 min in microwave stirring every 20 secs until they are cooked but still soft :smile2: Love 'em! Rach.

    August 23 Surgery -- Pre-op diet questions

Ummm... pardon the pun, but here's some food for thought... I stuck religiously to my pre-op diet - 3 Optifast shakes a day & 2litres of Water. My surgeon tells me there was NO fat stored around my liver and my stomach was also very clear of surrounding fat. I am 4 weeks post-op and still havent had hunger and have outstanding restriction. Obviously I cant say if how I conducted myself pre-op had anything to do with this or if it was luck.... But I thought it was something to mention. Good luck ! Rach.

    failure...were you worried??

Exactly !!!! At the risk of sounding like a cheerleader or a marine... Failure is not an option! I paid $18,250 for this surgery...I only earn 15K a year !! I researched for a good 13 months and if I happen to gain one week... so be it ! 'Cos in the end it will be an impressive average loss overall. I was so gung-ho for this I even did 3 weeks pre-op diet instead of 2!!! :frown: Rach.

    ? about Cookie Cutter Nutrition

My surgeon has a nutritionist, psychologist & nurse to help you with each step. In each part of your journey they assess your progress, go over what you need, what you're getting and how it affects your life. I dont think I could ask for anything better... that being said, if there is something I need to change, they are happy to let you and monitor your progress. But that's just how they do it here.... Rach.

    July banders-work together

Different surgeons, different rules ! Mine says at 6 weeks you'll get your first fill unless you dont want it. I have a feeling in 2 weeks I'm not going to want it But in general it seems if you are hungry, not losing or anything in between you're likely to get a fill. Good luck Rach.

    July banders-work together

Hey guys... I was banded on the 22nd of July.... apart from my heart not wanting to keep beating after surgery & a blood clot I've been super great !!! I want one of those gave up diet coke shirts tho !!! I went cold turkery from diet coke & meat 12 weeks ago :frown: This has been awesome so far and I cant believe I've lost a third of my excess weight already !! Rach.

How can I get more protein?

Ugh ! I know how you feel !! The only reason I have managed to stay at or around 60g of Protein is I'm having 1 1/2 servings of Protein Powder in a shake in the morning! I'm 4 weeks out and supposed to be on soft foods, but the nutritionist said to do what you need to do in order to get protein in. Everyone is completely different and a Protein Shake in the morning is the only option as I'm still super restricted & not hungry at all... I dont know what eggbeaters is... but try 2 small sized eggs & 50g of cottage cheese or quark... this gives me 19g of protein Good luck ! Rach.
  24. TheUrbanWasteland

I had my post op appt today...

As I'm only 1 month out (yay!!!) I can only say what I felt... I'm supposed to be on soft foods. I tried some very well soaked quinoa puffs and after 3 teaspoons I had that same feeling (but I still have complete restriction)... I figured I would try it again in a week to see if I could tolerate it any better. Just go slow and if something doesnt agree with you, try it next week Good luck ! Rach.
  25. 4 weeks and counting for me... no hunger & fairly tight restriction Rach. Urban Wasteland
