Had 2nd fill on Tuesday, now having PROBLEMS!!
Acadia replied to alvapo1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr put his patients on liquids the day before the fill, the day of the fill (but only after the fill, nothing before), liquids the day after, soft the day after that, mushy the day after that, then solids. It's all new trauma to your tissues, they need time to recover. -
Queasy, nauseous feeling..diarrhea?:
Acadia replied to Huggles1951's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt that way about two days ago, it passed for me. But it may be a bug. Definitely listen to BlairE and call your Dr if you start vomiting. -
It may or may not clear up after two weeks. If you keep a food diary check to see which foods are triggering it.

You can take them whole. My dr even has his patients take it for six months after surgery. Your stomach wants to over produce, this helps it regulate itself.

Anything that helps you drink enough is worth it. If it weren't for Crystal Light I wouldn't drink at least 60 oz a day since I drink just that in Crystal Light alone. I make it with a little more Water than is necessary since it's pretty sweet. A note for those who drink Isopure, the glass bottle is perfect for using with the single packets of Crystal Light. I'll gladly drink plain water, if it's iced and nice and cold.

What the heck!!!! Weight going up
Acadia replied to christina353's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Remember, women can gain up to 10 lbs a month (then lose it) just because thats how our bodies work. Even if you're not having your period it could still be a temporary gain based on your cycle. As long as you're losing inches, you're fine. -
Good restriction - Need diet advice!!!
Acadia replied to drivera's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you're way too tight. Better to get an unfill of a little bit rather than all of it if you have serious issues. -
Protein Pump Inhibitor, try taking a two week course of Prilosec OTC. It will reduce the amount of acid your stomach makes, which should reduce the foamy vomiting. Though talk with your Dr first to ensure there aren't other issues.

A reason to go to the hospital. Honestly. It could be nothing, or could be a blood clot, it could be pe, it could could could. Don't risk it.

I come to you for advice/suggestions ...
Acadia replied to Phranp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In addition to caloric intake you may want to have your vitamin and mineral levels checked via a blood test. Low vitamin D, B12, and iron can all cause lethargy. -
I was starving the first few days after surgery, I could only consume about 300-400 calories a day. Even if you're getting your Fluid amount you may not be getting enough calories. Check what you're drinking and tally your calories. And if you have a bowl ... well, a cup of Soup like cream of tomato or something similarly healthy, your Dr. will not freak out, especially if you're seven days post op. I'm seven days post today and yesterday I was approved for phase 2 (I posted the phases my Dr uses are in the nutrition forum under food plans) I can finally eat oatmeal, potatoes, Soups, crackers, cheese. And so yesterday I ate and thought I binged and all I had was 1/4 c of oatmeal with slivered almonds and then for dinner a few crackers and two wedges of 35 calorie laughing cow cheese. What a binge

Are you taking a PPI like Prilosec?

Hydration is fluid in. Whether it comes from a glass of water, water in a piece of fruit, flavoured water, soda, quite literally any fluid short of salt water is hydrating. Even coffee is hydrating (but is a diuretic so it will hydrate then flush water out of you). Ask your husband if all the sports players on TV are hydrating themselves during the games by drinking Gatorade - or not. Gatorade is just flavoured and enhanced water, same as Crystal Light.

Has anyone had a belly button incision?
Acadia replied to SuzanneCollins's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had single incision (which may mean 1-3 incisions, the extra incisions are in case they have to hold the liver back - they'll do it with internal sutures instead of an instrument so the extra incisions are very small, 1/4"-1/2" or even just a dot). Once the navel incision heals it shouldn't be visible. And if you end up needing a tummy tuck then it can be removed completely. -
Everytime I look in the mirror Most people aren't healthy vegetarians, they eat a lot of white rice, white Pasta, white bread and don't eat enough soy, legumes, Beans, complex carbs, and non refined products. It all comes down to food choices. Even a vegan can be fat and unhealthy. The only diet guaranteed not to make you fat is a non processed and raw vegan diet. Pure fruits, veggies, legumes, and mildly cooked grains. You simply cannot consume enough calories to gain weight on that type of diet without some processed food additions (like sugar or refined flours). Ultimately it's about what you eat and the quantity. Eat more healthy and natural foods and fewer indulgent foods and you're golden -- and satisfied!

You can definitely get enough protein. I rely heavily on Beans, legumes, meat substitutes, and tofu for protein but even fruits and vegetables have protein. Peanut Butter is a great way to get protein in a very tasty snack. I also sub my diet with half of an Isopure Zero 30 minutes before working out then the rest within 15 minutes of working out. That's an extra 40 g each day I work out. And if I make Jello for a dessert I use Isopure as the cold Water to make a high protein jello (1/4 pkg serving will have an extra 4 grams of protein made this way). The Daily Plate is a great tracking tool to make sure you're getting enough protein. Use it for a few days to see if you're getting enough.

Anybody else having slow weight loss?
Acadia replied to Thill69's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Keep in mind - you may not be losing weight but you may still be losing inches. Measure the following locations and measure them once a week to see the changes (it only takes about 4 minutes to measure all of these spots): Neck Around the chest (widest part) Around the chest (under breast for women) Upper arm (always the same distance from the elbow crease) Forearm (same distance from elbow crease) Wrist Waist (narrowest area) Waist (at belly button) Hips (widest) Hips (at the dip, if you have one) Thigh (same distance from the crotch or back of knee) Calf (same distance from the back of the knee) Ankle You may not notice changes in all areas, but on those weeks where you have no weight loss you will very likely lose a half inch, an inch, or more. Remember that it takes a 3,500 calorie deficit to lose 1 lbs and you should only be losing 1-2 lbs a week to minimize side effects like saggy skin. And if you eat less than 1,200 calories a day you'll put your body into starvation mode and will lose muscle and not fat. One final note - women gain between 5-10 lbs every month due to our cycles, so if you don't lose this week, you may lose a lot next week. If you're tracking you'll see these fluctuations. And even women who are going through menopause or who have gone through menopause will have fluctuations though they'll be a little smaller in the 2-4 lbs range. -
Realize that any negative reactions you receive have absolutely nothing to do with you. Your sister in law was the only one who made the decision to have surgery and in doing so she accepted the potential risks. Your family feeling guilty is their issue -- not yours. And if they try to guilt you simply tell them that their comments are inappropriate and that your sister-in-law's situation, while very unfortunate, is unrelated to yours. You can only act and react to the stimuli presented by others and no one can make you feel anything -- it's your decision how you act and react. The same goes for them.

Whenever you're comfortable is appropriate -- but no crazy positions, nothing that involves a crunch like position, nothing that involves him putting his weight on you. So stick with you on top leaning back slightly, or on your sides, or standing. Stay away from missionary and you on your stomach. The most comfortable and pleasurable will likely be you laying on your side then putting one leg way up, him straddling your straight leg, and your bent leg on his hip or him holding it. Great penetration, he has access to you, you have access to you, no pressure on your abdomen.

Lemons and Salt
Acadia replied to gotmyeyeontheprize's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could be due to imbalances in your blood. It's worth asking your Dr for a vitamin/mineral blood panel to make sure there's nothing missing in your diet, as can happen with WLS and our modified diets. -
Putting a cold compress on the wound will stop it from itching.

I had to contact the insurance company and have them fax it and the office accepted that.

How do you get your water intake?
Acadia replied to FLORIDAYS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Water, crystal light, and any other sugar free beverages - without caffeine - are counted as water. If what you drink has caffeine then you are best to drink an extra glass of water to counteract the diuretic effects of caffeine. Though they aren't as pronounced as they used to be, that effect is still there. One cup of coffee (8 oz) a day or two cups of tea (16 oz) per day won't cause much of a problem, but it's a good idea to counteract that diuretic effect if possible. If you take diuretics you'll see a lot of weight loss - but it truly is water loss. In addition, large amounts of caffeine reduce the amount of Calcium you absorb from the food you're eating and the tannins in tea have a similar negative effect on Iron absorption - so if you're drinking a lot of coffee or tea make sure you're taking calcium and iron supplements (but never at the same time because they fight for the same receptors). -
Some people only get 0.25 or 0.5 CCs at a time. It all depends how your band is fitting and how the Dr. determines the band to be working for you based on what you tell him. You may be one of the lucky ones who either doesn't need a fill or who only needs one or two. I share your pain with the cost, my cost will be around $100/fill and he only fills every 6-8 weeks, regardless of how you're gaining/losing and will perform an un-fill if you start to lose more than 2 lbs / week (unless you have the activity and food diary to prove you've been eating the necessary calories and working out to achieve the loss). It may help if you keep very detailed activity and food diary records and show those to your Dr. (you can prove your activity using a FitBit $99 - free online website with tracking of sleep, activity, and food - and it looks really good too). If you can put it as simple math and facts, your Dr. may be willing to increase your first and second fills (the two that generally do not provide restriction). Then you and he will both feel more comfortable when he reduces his fills to 1 cc and less.

Any time your body goes through a trauma you'll shed the hair that is ready to be shed (hair sheds in 3 phases), so you may lose a fair amount all at once, but it's completely normal and to be expected. Biotin can help, but only if you take it daily and for the long term. The amount of hair you lose will not be noticeable in a few months.
