Where to even start... I didn't start becoming over weight until after HS. I was fit and my friends were actually envious of what I had, ridiculously hard to believe now. But life happens, kids, work, stress, blah blah blah and here I am 14 years later.
I started researching LapBand 4 years ago and went through the initial process.During my first initial quest to have LapBand. At the time insurance covered it, but where I lived not many Dr's did it, so there was about a 6-9 month waiting list.
During that time, we went over into the New Year and bam, insurance changed and the new insurance no longer covered it. I kissed that one good bye.
A year later, I moved cross country and started the process again as a self pay patient. It didn't go very far, $22k is a tough nugget to swallow.
Which brings me to 2010. I've been on WW time and time again. Lose weight, gain weight, blah blah, same story different day. Last August, I started tracking everything on thedailyplate and I was having pretty good success. I kind of hit a plateau in Feb 2010 and went in to my GP to have full blood work done to check everything.
He brought up LapBand again (although it never really left my thoughts). I told him yeah, been there done that whole trying to get approved thing. He pushed me into checking my insurance again. I was shocked, amazed and in tears to find out that it was now covered at 100%. I had the 6 month supervised diet requirement, psy eval again, letter from GP.
I had the last of my 6 month weigh ins on July 1st. I've received a call from both my insurance and my Dr's office today saying that my surgery has been approved. And that I FINALLY have a surger date! July 29th is the big day!
