My lap band story is just beginning. I was fairly healthy for 40 years, but then found out that I suffered from diabetes and had endometrial cancer. Within 2 months of getting my diabetes under control, I underwent surgery to remove the cancer, panniculectomy (tummy tuck) so they could get to the cancer and a lymphanectomy to check for other instances of the cancer. All went well. I later found out that I was hypertensive, so medication started for that condition to join the diabetic medicines I was taking.Lord willing this December, I will be 5 years out of surgery and still cancer free. I'm very fortunate and very blessed. Even though I lost 35+ lbs after surgery, I've managed to go right back to my "fighting" weight, as I call it, minus 9 lbs or so. Recently I was gearing up for a 3 mile benefit walk and after walking a few days, I twisted my knee. Two weeks of avoidance, a doctor visit and now 8 physical therapy sessions later, I'm ready to change my life. There is no way my body is going to keep up with me at this weight...its just not feasible. I don't want to be out of commission or worse yet dead because of my weight. I still have a lot of life to live and I need to get to it and get the weight out of my way.
