  1. I'll let one of the more experienced Bandsters try to answer this for you, but I wanted to share an experience with you that I had one time... I had a cast on my hand and shortly after getting it, I had to fly to NJ for business. By the time I landed in Newark, my hand was so swelled that I thought it was going to burst the cast and it hurt something terrible. Luckily, I had pain meds with me and the swelling subsided after a couple of days. After I returned home, I contacted my orthopedic Dr and he told me that had he known I would be flying, he would have put a different type of cast on me due to the swelling that would happen at that kind of altitude. So yeah, I could kind of see something like that happening. Hope you feel better.
  2. I had such grand plans of being able to start on some type structured exercise program after surgery, but I have been so sick with Bronchitis the last week and a half. I went into surgery on 10/19 at 276 lbs and when I was weighed on 11/1 by the nurse at my PCP's office I was down to 254 - which I think is great. But I am afraid that if I can't start exercising soon and get my appetite back, that my weight will hit a plateau or I'll just start losing muscle instead of fat. Because I feel so bad, every sip of protein shake and every bite of food nearly makes me gag. I'm on an antibiotic and cough syrup (both are yucky), but I was wondering if anybody could recommend a hot tea or anything that will help me get my appetite back. I want to be healthy and I want to at least start walking. Also, I don't want to sound whinney, but I need a little encouragement. Thanks everybody!
  3. Thanks CheckYes. I will definitely try the tea. I am willing to try anything right now just to get my appetite back. I know this sounds insane, but I feel like I am already failing my band.

    I Lost Snooki!!

Congratulations! Can't wait until I can say, "I lost Snooki!!"
  5. Wishing you the best. You'll do great! The gas really is the worst part. Just walk, walk, walk, get a heating pad and some Gas-X strips. You're going to love how you feel once you are healed. I am 3 weeks post-op and doing great!
  6. Wow, that's great! I can't wait to do something like that. I feel like I am so behind with everything. I am 3 weeks post-op, but I have been sick with bronchitis for over a week. I'm hoping tommorow that I feel like going for a short walk. Let us know how it goes.
  7. Almond milk is great!
  8. I've seen you guys post about NSV's and it took me a bit to figure out what this was, but I had my first one today. A little bitter sweet, but that's okay... I'm 14 days post op and had to go to the Dr. today. I have bronchitis and feel pretty rough, but while I was sitting in the Dr.'s office, very miserable and could not get comfortable, I crossed my legs without even thinking about it. This is the first time I have been able to do this in about 15 years. Woot, woot! Now, if I can just start feeling better and get back to walking.
  9. Congratulations! It feels wonderful, doesn't it? I haven't told anyone at work either. People have noticed that I have been getting a little smaller, but I just tell them that I have been really trying to watch what I eat. I don't think that's being untruthful at all.
  10. Hi there. I am very new to this, banded Oct 19th and my first fill will be Nov 30th, but here's some information that my Dr and nutritionist gave me...Both said that at about week 5, I would feel like and probably could eat as I did before my surgery. They told me to call if I began to experience any problems at all with not being able to stick to my post-op diet. My advice would be to call your surgeon and tell them what is happening. I know I don't have much experience to be giving advice, but that's what I would do. Sending you big hugs and wishing you the very best.
  11. Hi Amanda. I too have struggled with depresssion and anxiety for years. I had to switch from Cymbalta to Celexa about 2 months prior to my surgery. It took about 6 weeks before I actually started to feel better, but the bloodwork is probably a good idea too. Hope you feel better soon.
  12. I have BCBS New Jersey. My paperwork was submitted by Dr. in August and I did not receive my approval letter until late September. I was just banded on October 19th. My job is like yours - it effects the schedule of others, people have to be moved from other positions to fill in for me. Your BCBS may be a little faster than mine, but I would keep contacting my Dr.'s office. Best of luck!

    Diet Coke

I'm a newbie Bandster (October 19th), but staying away from carbonated beverages was one of the first things my Dr. talked to me about during my consultation. I was a Mountain Dew addict and when I walked out of the office that day and I told myself that was it - that was in July. I had 1 sip a few days prior to surgery and I almost couldn't even swallow it. Don't even go there. Best of luck!
  14. I was not on any exercise program pre-surgery. I've just felt so great these past few days and I think I just hit it a little too hard today for my first time - and especially with nothing on my stomach. Thanks for everybody's support and advice.
  15. I was feeling so good when I came home from work today so I decided to go for a walk. I walked a little over a mile and I think I walked a little too fast. I feel so swollen and sore. I'm 10 days post op. When did everybody start trying to push the exercise? Did I do this too early? Feeling kind of yucky right now.
  16. Congratulations on your hard work and success! I haven't seen Onderland since my teen years. I cannot wait to get there. I've got about 62 lbs to go. I can do this and I will do this!
  17. Great advice everybody! I can do this! I can do this! I will do this!
  18. Thank you so much for your reply. I feel like I may have been a little too weak when I did it. I was able to get down only about half of my protein shake at lunch. Since I came in and rested for a while and drank a whole protein shake, I feel much better. My stomach still feels a littel swollen, but I am sure that will pass in a few hours. I am definitely going to try to walk again tomorrow - just not on am empty stomach.
  19. Wow, you've done great! How much do they put in at your 1st fill or does it just depend on the person? I'm glad that we met and live relatively close to each other. I was 297 when I started Sugar Busters. The week before surgery I was at 276. Today, I weigh 262. I have such a long way to go, but I feel like I have been given a second chance at life. I will be starting the mushies stage next week and could really use some ideas about that. What did you eat? I like the sound of the things that you are eating now. I bet they are very satisfying. Let's keep in touch!

    Muscle Milk

I really like Muscle Milk. My son, who is a Marine and is constantly working out, suggested that I try it. I like both the chocolate and vanilla.
  21. Hi there! Yes, I love, love, love Dr. Bagnato. I am 10 days post op and I am feeling very good. I have felt a little more swollen this evening, but I'm sure there will be some internal swelling for a while. My Dad lives in Albany, retired from Merck before they closed. I live in Climax. How much weight have you lost? I'm so nervous about my first fill. It's Nov. 30th. Maybe we can help each other through this journey. I'm so excited!

  22. Hello fellow Bandsters! I'm 9 days post op and doing really great. I was wondering about this funny taste that I keep having in my mouth. It's almost kinda metallic - if that makes any sense. I've never been one to take vitamins, but have taken my 2 Flintstones a day faithfully since surgery. Could that be it? I keep brushing my teeth and my husband swears that my breath doesn't stink, but it just tastes kinda funky. Thoughts?

just how big is the opening

I've never heard of Papaya Pills. Is it something that you chew if you get stuck? Where do you get them?

just how big is the opening

I'm glad you started this thread. I start on mushies next Tuesday and I have been so nervous about it. I keep thinking, "full liquids are not bad - I think I could continue to do this indefinitely" LOL I know we are not supposed to be afraid, but I feel like I will just panic if/when I get something stuck.:sneaky:
