  1. Oh KKB, How scary for you! I read a blog pre op of someone who had one. Her leak was small and the doctors kept holding off doing anything because they had hoped it would close on its own. It didn't and she got pretty sick. But as soon as they went in and did a repair it all turned around and she has been doing great ever sense. Good luck Nancy
  2. Hi, I looked into it I can not remember how I got to the sleeve application but truth be told I was underwhelmed by what they covered. Nancy
  3. Hi, Not a long time sleever just shy of 2 months but I have yet to find a "no" food. Now I haven't eaten anything real bad no fast food, no potato chips, no cookies, or doughnuts. I did have two bites of cheesecake on my birthday, didn't taste good and when I ate regular jello and a juice bar the sugar did not feel great in my stomach. I have not tried diet soda yet but when I took some airborne and that tiny bit of fizz didn't feel good at all. I am able to eat bread 1/4 of a slice, rice, had some of a Stouffer's lasagne, a bit of chopped steak, a slice of bacon (not on the same day). But I believe I am way out of the norm here before surgery I had a cast iron stomach and I think I have a cast iron sleeve.

    Recover time after surgery

Hi, Everyone heals differently but I think two weeks off is the minimum of time you should take off I'd suggest finding Protein drinks that you can drink now rather then post op. Get in the habit now of drinking those 2 1/2 liters a day and start walking now. Also start your Vitamins and take care of yourself no late nights, avoid stress, no craziness. The better your shape is pre-op the easier your recovery as a rule of thumb. Nancy
  5. LOL! I am 5'2" and according to the charts I "should" weigh 125 I haven't weighed that since my twenties! Anyway to me that sounds so unrealistic as a goal so when I did the ticker I set it at 140 a number I will be thrilled to see. I think my feet are smaller!

  6. According to my surgeon's gastric sleeve "bible" the bubbles of carbonation get released faster as the soda warms in your body so while it passes quickly most of the gas gets released in your stomach.
  7. Hi All, I like the new design but have one small issues. On the top of the page where there are three different colored toolbars. The third one which is a light pink that starts off with "You are here" the pink is too light and makes it hard to read anything in that toolbar. Thanks

    Need help with protein

Hi, For me I make sugar free puddings with skin milk and mix in protein powder vanilla for vanilla or butterscotch flavors chocolate with chocolate. I also use urjury's chicken soup flavor powder in strained chicken noodle soup (just be sure you do not heat it over 130 degrees). I also use torani sugar free syrups strawberry or vanilla in non fat plain Greek yogurt to help sweeten it up.

Kaiser hasn't a clue what they are doing.

You should go anyway if your appeal goes through you'll be ahead of the game. I just don't get it I got another mini lecture when I saw the bariatric doctor. I read somewhere that they also use your waist measurements mine was over 42" pre op I carry all my weight on my stomach which is the worse place to carry it. I'll be praying you win your appeal.
  10. You new picture looks fabulous! Oh the foamies and slimies are gross! I've only gotten it twice I also seem to get the hiccups with them that just makes all the more gross! I haven't tried diet soda yet but I don't think I'll be able to since the tiny bit of fizz from an airborne hurt! Right now I am at a stall scale wise Very depressing but I know it won't ...

  11. Hi, I started drinking diet soda when I was 14 because the sugar in the regular soda was ruining my teeth. Anyway I pretty much drank diet soda exclusively I do not drink coffee, I don't drink tea and I never liked the taste of Water. That means I have been drinking it for 40 years! Before surgery I'd drink a 3 liter Shasta bottle a day. I have not even tried it and while we have several bottles at home I am not all that interested. I did take an airborne when DH came home with a cold and that tiny bit of fizz did not sit well with my new tummy. Nancy

Thanks and good luck and health to you too. It's weird but I can tell some parts of me are smaller that sounds so silly but its true.

    Extubation

Hi, I have had two surgeries where I was intubated in both surgeries the last thing I remember before I was out was moving from the gurney to the table. And the first thing were the doctors talking to DH. The rest was a total blank. Nancy
  14. Hi, I am seven weeks out come Tuesday. Cons: I'd have to say the whole first week was one long con. I wasn't in real pain or anything mostly I was uncomfortable and restless. Negative thoughts that this will not work. Finding eating something of a chore because for the most part it isn't as enjoyable. Fighting the old habit of trying to clean my plate. Left overs. I am overwhelmed by left overs. Pros: I eat maybe 1/10 of what I use to and am full. More energy Feeling better over all Lost 25lbs so far! Not sure if this is from the weight loss or the fact that I no longer drink diet soda but I seem to be sleeping better and not getting up to use the restroom. Am off both my blood pressure and cholesterol drugs! I would do it again in a heart beat. Nancy

Oh dear it has gotten worse! Jesse decided he rather wait until after the holidays which means I will be there in January their coldest month! Oh well hopefully by January I will be a thinner popsicle! Nancy

    winter clothes?

Thanks Tiff that is an excellent idea especially since after the trip I really won't need it here. Nancy

    winter clothes?

Gulp! We will be there a week to help take care of DH's youngest after surgery on his shoulder. I hate to fly and just realized just how long the flights are but Jesse is worth it. I imagine it is dark all the time then? I know Fairbanks is small someone said 35,000 is there anything to do outside then? Also food I will be three months out now I know Fairbanks is not another country but I have lived my whole life in Los Angeles and in my mind I imagine that 90% of all businesses there close down for the winter? Thanks Nancy

    Stretching

Thanks guys. I am doing better especially since I started really measuring things but also because I have finally moved away from the need to clean my plate. Nancy
  20. Hi, I am two weeks post op all is good but I am having a devil of a time figuring out how much to eat. I keep overeating and feel stuffed I get a little nausea but it passes quickly. I worry that I am stretching my new sleeve out is it possible? Nancy
  21. Hi, When I was at my one month post op the nurse coordinator from the hospital told me that she was amazed how much better the sleeve patients recover compared to the band patients. Kaiser olso told my friend who attended their options class that a high percentage have to have the band to be removed after 2 years. Nancy
  22. Pam, I am six weeks out today and still get a little nausea now and then but it does get better. For me crystal light made a very big difference in my Fluid intake something about the sweet taste got me to drink a lot more then plain Water. I don't think anyone can fully be prepared for the first week. Every one saids that the first week is rough but there is rough and then there is *ROUGH*! Just know that each day gets better and you will love your sleeve. Doug, I think having a good exercise program in place pre op does help the recovery process. Also if you aren't already you might want to work on drinking 2 1/2 liters daily beforehand so that you get in the habit of sipping all day long. Nancy
  23. Hi All, I am six weeks out and doing well. I don't feel hungry at all. When I sit down to eat I go from feeling nothing to feeling full sometimes overly so but not to the point where I get sick. My question is they say to eat until you are satisfied but if you don't get hungry and are eating because it is time what does satisfied mean? Some meals I get the full feeling a lot quicker then others which can be so confusing. Nancy

    junk food experiment

Hi, I'd never try an experiment like that I mean it is just so self destructive. Nancy
  25. Hi, I can not believe what Kaiser is doing to you. It is crazy that they don't even take us on a case by case basis just lump us into their rigid standards. It just isn't fair! I saw my PCP last week first time I was there since surgery and explained why I went to self pay I told her mentally I just could not purposely gain 20lbs to meet their standards and she said it would be madness to do that because it would put my health in further rick for problems. Anyway I wanted to tell you how sorry I am and to keep fighting!
